Worthwhile book on performance dashboards
This book provides an easy to read and wholesome foundation on the topic of performance dashboards. The views of the author and contributors are clearly based on practical experiences. <br /><br />The material offers some excellent evangelistic and business case fodder, if that's where one is at. It contains plenty of practical advice to help organisations embark on new projects too.<br /><br />This book is reasonably comprehensive and practical yet it makes the topic feel bigger and slightly more complex than it necessarily needs to be.<br /><br />It's easy to see that well implemented dashboards provide a business intelligence framework that can expand with the business too. The material touches upon how effective dashboards have been implemented, which, when considered in fairness, indicates that the level of sophistication continues to be relatively mild given the sum of man years invested in the topic to date.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br />83

High on opinions, Low on substance - buy something else
hmmm. not an impressive read. The Author alleges to build a case to 'prove' his 18 year economic cycle theory. The 'proof' offered is poor and not convincing. I had hoped for much more than the repeated Mantra of the 18 year cycle, I get the feeling that if he states it enough as fact, then it must be true. Having recently read"The Black Swan" by Taleb, then 2010 was a real disappointment.<br /><br />I suppose I should have submitted this review after reselling my copy on Amazon. oops.85

Not much about hedge funds
This book does not give you knowledge about HOW hedge fund strategies should be done in practice. In fact, this book's title is quite misleading. Just look at the table of contents, it gives an introduction to measures of return and risk (a whole chapter on covariance and correlation), regression analysis, etc. This book's audience is practitioners without quantitative background. Academics should buy a regular finance or statistics book. If you want to learn about hedge funds, buy Lhabitant's first book"Hedge Funds: Myths and Limits", which actually is about hedge funds.98

Straightforward investing insights
Ken Fisher is one of the most famous market pundits and money managers in the United States, and one of the few to occupy a spot on the Forbes list of America's richest people. In this book, he debunks conventional wisdom and widely believed folklore about securities markets and the process of investing. He suggests a sort of investors' examination of conscience: They should routinely ask themselves three simple, straightforward questions to ensure that they are not falling into avoidable error: Which of my beliefs are false? What can I understand that others cannot understand? And, what cognitive illusions are fooling me now? He provides ample supporting research to buttress his assertions about the market and, more to the point, to topple the false wisdom that leads so many investors to failure. We find that Fisher is lucid, strongly opinionated, sometimes a bit of a crank (a long tangent on Gertrude Stein seems particularly out of place in this book) but, on the whole, well worth reading.

Das Buch ist ein sehr gut strukturiertes und angenehm leicht zu lesendes Buch, daß einen umfassenden Einstieg in die Thematik gibt. Es eignet sich sowohl für Studierende, als auch Praktiker gleichermaßen. Es gelingt dem Autor durchgehend, einen umfassenden und zuweilen komplizierten Sachverhalt für den Leser verständlich darzustellen. Die Formulierungen sind von einer präzisen Klarheit, die sich positiv von den ausufernden pseudo-wissenschaftlichen Veröffentlichungen zahlreicher Professoren abhebt. Dieses Buch ist für Leser mit soliden Grundkenntnissen der englischen Sprache gut geeignet. Das umfangreiche und aktuelle Literaturverzeichnis gibt einen Leitfaden zur vertiefenden wissenschaftlichen Recherche. Fazit: Ich kann dieses Buch uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen. Es hat das Zeug zum Standardwerk!
