A homage to concept-driven design and thinking
This book provides so many examples of both the mechanics of a good concept and the power of lateral thinking. A great feat to have documented and communicated such an eclectic range of thoughts and ideas.

Review:
The best body shape yet!
I've bought a few books about dressing for your body shape but this one is definitely the best one. Their advice is spot on and definitely changed the way I view my body. Most body shape books break down body types to about 6 at best but this book goes further with not only a lot more body shapes and but also describes traits like leg proportion, neck length and bottom size. <br /><br />It has changed the way I shop. I now walk straight passed all the gorgeous but wrong for me clothes - no matter how fab! I look for shape first, fabric and colour next. My"what was I thinking" shopping mistakes have disappeared and I'm now feeling a lot better about my body. Not bad for one book!<br /><br />

There's Another Banksy
I have this book and absoluetly love it, it exaplains why he did it, how he did it and some of his experieces and anecdotes. The book is excellent to be able to see decent street art, but then I came across the person Bansky is inspired by. He is fairly unknown here in the UK but HE is BANKSY'S idol, he is called Blek Le Rat and he too has a book out, he is a 56 year old frenchman who has been doing the things Banksy has been doing for years longer, you can buy his book off amazon. I would say buy Banksy's book to see the British side of street art, but buy Blek Le Rat if you want to see the true inspiration behind Banksy's work.

Scott Kelby's 7-Point System for Adobe Photoshop CS3
As a 70 year old, self taught relative new-comer to PC's, the scope and depth of Photoshop has proved to be almost overwhelming - but where do you start to de-mystify the programme's daunting controls and options?<br /><br />Teach-yourself books generally assume you have at least a good grounding of computer-speak - and I didn't even know what the shift key was, or how to find it!<br /><br />I had been browsing through Scott Kelby's tuition sites, and although enlightening they seemed to be just one step too far ahead for we old chaps with an attention span/memory grasp - THEN I bought his 7-Point System and a whole new world opened up before me. Undreamed of techniques unfolded that were readily understood, and the hours of pleasure working through the 21 lessons - some of the more basic I can now do with hardly a glance at the pages.<br /><br />If you are new to PhotoShop , buy this book. I have a grandson who has been grounded in Adobe CS3 and is in his last university year majoring in Film Making, Production & Anomation - he has worked through my book and now buying his own - I guess no fuller praise than this can be offered.<br /><br />Scott Kelby's approuch to digital imaging is superb, a bright light shining through the dark magic & mystery.<br /><br />Just three words - BUY THIS BOOK.

Being Jordan

Our Price: £5.05
Used Price: £0.29
New Price: £2.33

Review:
An enjoyable read
Before reading this, I met a man who claimed Paula Radcliffe was gutless and that Jordan was nowt but a tart. Me and three other women argued the podgy sod down about these women, citing strength, determination, and them having the makings of feminist icons as to why he was so wrong. <br /><br />After reading this, I have to say I'm even more glad i stuck up for Jordan/Katie.<br /><br />Whilst her attention to detail about men is flawless (be it about willy size or what clothes they wore on her first date) reading this, it's amazing how much she's fit into her years (some good and a lot of bad poor thing), and it's no surprise it's a bestseller as it's written in an easy to read, endearing style that reminds me of a big sister who used to lend you her copy of 'Forever' by Judy Blume, with the rude bits highlighted.

The Genius of Photography

Our Price: £14.99
Used Price: £12.00
New Price: £14.31

Review:
An excellent cultural guide.
This book is an excellent guide to the culture of photography, examining various significant photographers, mostly 20th century. There could be more actual photographs but the text is intelligently written, making interesting links between various movements and styles. It tends to jump around the timeline a bit but is all the more interesting for that. Overall, a very good, if possibly subjective, view of photographic history which does not become bogged down in academia.

Informative but poor quality printing
the information is good, however..<br /><br /> my one real negative is the quality of the paper as mentioned by another reviewer. it is very poor as far as the images go (fine for text). it is difficult to distinguish detail in the images, and as it is a photographic imaging book this is a pretty big minus!

Things I Have Learned in My Life So Far

New Price: £13.00

Review:
Emperor's New Clothes or Design Genius?
Is Stefan Sagmeister the Emperor's new clothes of the design world, or does he really deserve the genius tag he's so often given?<br /><br />After reading Things I Have Learned In My Life So Far, I firmly believe the latter. Sagmeister doesn't disappoint; he makes design fun and accessible, without dumbing down or losing effect - this book illustrates perfectly, both in content and format, that good design works. <br /><br />The featured projects are fascinating; my reactions ranged from `oh that's sooo gorgeous,' to `how on earth....?' to `what HAPPENED to him to make him think like that?!' <br /><br />It's beautifully put together - a design book that's not just for designers, with essays and Sagmeister's explanations of the projects, along with fantastic images. <br /><br />As Sagmeister says, via the help of giant monkeys,"Everybody always thinks they are right," and I think I am in this case - buy it, swap around the covers to your heart's content, and enjoy your very own piece of Sagmeister!

The New Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain

Our Price: £9.74
Used Price: £7.10
New Price: £7.81

Review:
Wonderful insight in the art of drawing
This book is a 'must read' for everyone who wants to understand the 'art of drawing'. When someone tells me know, I can't draw, I got the answer: 'You can!' This book thought me to respect each others' drawing capabilities and it enhanced mine. I look different to drawing and paintings now walking though galleries or even watching photos in magazines. Watching how the environment around us changes through the day, how people's expression can differ ... this book touched the right sensor in me and thought me a lot of using your eyes to 'look with your mind' and to get it down on a piece of paper.

Throw away the little manual that came with your 40D and invest in this instead.<br />Very well written and can be read from cover to cover unlike a manual. Photoshop CS3 for Dummies (For Dummies)

Our Price: £10.39
Used Price: £7.90
New Price: £8.11

Review:
An easy passport to the complex land of Photoshop
As a person who is an author first, a self-publisher second and a computer expert (a very poor) third, I found this book a gentle introduction to the process of creating covers for my 'Virtual Trilogy' series of books and for the accompanying website.<br /><br />As usual, the simple to read language and humorous cartoon interludes between chapters give the deceptive impression that this manual is lightweight - which it most certainly is not. Photoshop is (at least in my humble opinion)a very advanced computer graphics programme and the manual accompanying it has a bewildering array of information that is (again in my humble opinion) not as accessible as it might be.<br /><br />This 'For Dummies' version however,is easy to read, detailed enough to be useful and (unlike many other 'For Dummies' volumes) has many pages in colour, which are essential for a programme like Photoshop.<br /><br />Once again, 'For Dummies' has given this computer Luddite enough confidence to make the most out of his investment in computer software, at least enough to approach the full manual without anxiety.

Photoshop Simplified !!!!
With so many books out there on Photoshop claiming to teach the secrets it's difficult to know what to buy; this new book by Matt Kloskowski though is a definite MUST HAVE for anyone just starting out in the world of Photoshop and anyone who has been using it for a while.<br /><br />Matt manages to simplify the whole concept of Layers (the bread and butter of Photoshop) in a quick easy to understand way that I challenge anyone not to grasp it after the first chapter. Following on from that in the following 8 chapters, Matt goes on to cover such topics as blending layers, adjustment layers, layer masks and then some chapters covering retouching, layer styles and smart objects ... again, in an easy to follow teaching style that just works..period!<br /><br />Some readers out there, like me may have been using photoshop for a number of years now and may consider a book teaching Layers to be beneath them, but as in all of Matt's books, there are always a few gems hidden in there that make buying the book worth it just for them. <br /><br />Littered with some stunning photos and techniques this is a book that doesn't make false claims, it delivers and and all for a great price too ... nuff said :o)<br /><br />ps> I'm not on commision, I just believe in putting my money to good use :o)

Wow
A beautifully put together book which includes some amazing pictures of very well endowed men. Most of the pictures are from the 1970's and pictures are grouped by photographer/studio. There is some interesting information contained within the text of the book, although this text does not feature heavily with the pictures doing the talking. Some interesting mini-bios of the models are included, written by the photographers. If you are interested in the male body, erotic photography or just want to see some massive you-know-whats this is the book for you. Well worth investing in!
