More of a reference book
I now own 3 books by Lee Frost which surprises me because I was not a big fan of the first one I received as a present (Photos that sell). This one however is much better in my oppinion because it concentrates more on how to take good pictures rather than what you should use.<br /><br />First, forget the idea that this is a handbook as it's almost A4 in size. The first section of the book contains chapters on lighting, composition, focusing, colour and the darkroom (ok so a darkroom is not relevant to digital photographers but it is a short chapter).<br /><br />The second section of this book is what I was looking for as a digital photographer as it has usable chapters on how to photograph people, landscapes, nature scenes and movement effects. By concentrating on the content of the images rather than the equipment used, Lee shows what makes a good photo, not just one that's technically perfect.<br /><br />Reading this book inspired me to go out and take more pictures which is what a good photography book should do.<br />83

The SketchUp bible
This book is an invaluable reference if you need something more than the Google help files and video tutorials available through SketchUp. When used with Chopra's YouTube videos you can be using the software to model almost anything within a few hours of drawing your first lines. I've knocked a mark off because it doesn't cover the Sandbox tools which admittedly are only availble in the Pro version, but some information on basic operation of these tools would have been good. Otherwise worth every penny. I don't know how Chopra's new Wiley book on SketchUp compares but it would need to go much further than this if it were to be worth its much higher price tag.86

So good I bought it twice!
I bought this for my son for Xmas, but with a last minute birthday party invitation I had to give it away to his friend. When my son saw it he was absolutely rapt and said"I wish I'd put that on my list for Santa". Little does he know that Santa already knew he'd like it and is about to order a replacement for him. ;o) The book itself is nice and big and full of in depth detail which will keep Doctor Who fans engaged for hours. There's lots of full colour illustrations and, as the title suggests, it is laid out like an encyclopedia, so it's easy to look up those facts that may have slipped your mind. Well worth the money (and absolutely essential at £3.99!!).88

An answer to a photographers prayer
This book has made the difference.<br />I'm a photographer working with models producing images to many different genres. I purchased this book from the museum where the drawings are on display. This is a wonderful book and worth every cent. I have an old 1973 Writings and Drawings by Bob Dylan and it is good, this book is great!<br />I just love Bob Dylan and the UK seems to have more Dylan memorabilia than we in the USA. I just buy things at random and listen to his words and music everyday. All ilisten to in my car is Dylan!!!!!!!!!!91

A bit lightweight for an experienced Digital Photographer
Based on other reviews I was expecting a bit more from this book. I found that most of it went over familiar ground for a seasoned digital photographer. That's not to say that I didn't learn anything from the book, there were one or two nuggets of useful information that I stumbled across.....was just expecting a few more advanced techniques when shooting with RAW.<br />Great for beginners and like so many photography books, not so good if you have a bit more experience.93

The author is obviously a real pro.<br /><br />He does give details of the techniques and lighting positions employed in the VERY creative photographs he displays.<br /><br />However, I prefer other books directed at amateurs which teach a slightly lower level of creative photography together with longer and more understandable explanations and from which an amateur like me would probably benefit more.99

Excellent Guide, stays in my camera bag
If you want to get the best results from your D80 I strongly recommend that you buy this book, it has in-depth explanations of all the controls, settings and features available, and also clear explanations of the technical capabilities and limitations of the D80 too, with some development history to boot. There are also descriptions of add-on accessories to guide you on expanding your camera system with external flash units etc.<br />It goes WAY beyond the Nikon manual and I keep going back to it as a reference.<br />Included is a handy credit card sized fold out quick reference guide.<br />NB. I can forgive the publisher for the more than a few spelling and punctuation mistooks. ;)100

Movie Making Made Easy
If like me, you are new to movie making, this book must be top of your list. It takes you step by step from importing your movie into Final Cut Express 4 right through to the finished product including adding your own sound. The beauty of the book is that the included CD contains movie clips, sequences and sound tracks which you will use throughout the lessons. This has to be the ultimate in hands on training, everything is so well explained!<br />At the end of each chapter there is"Lessons Review" by way of questions and answers plus a list of Keyboard Shortcuts. I have copied these and find them a very useful reference set.<br />To detail everything in the book would mean writing another book. Suffice to say it is without doubt the best AppleTraining Series Book I have read so far. As an absolute beginner before I read this book I can now put together a good movie.<br />Buy it! I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
