Good, but basic

Having come from a science background, this was a good introduction to approaching the study of arts subjects. A little basic in places, and a large amount is just common sense. But, it was very reassuring and useful as reference during the first year of my degree.

7 - The Number of Completion and Perfection

The Seven Habits of Highly Successful People is definitely one of the better self-help / improvement books on the market. All the information contained in the book is quite accurate and pertinent. With other self-help books I've read, some of the information has proved useful while a lot of it is rather superfluous, as if included simply to 'pad out' the book. <br /><br />That is not the case with this classic book. A must read for all looking to improve themselves and their lives.<br /><br />How To Keep Your Man: And Keep Him For Good<br /><br />Real Life Dramas - Volume One: 1<br /><br />Darren G. Burton

Not the same as the verbal reasoning tests of the top jobs!

The book is tiny - no wonder its only £8. I found it was completely different to the verbal reasoning tests given by the likes of Psion, BAe, KPMG, Arthur Anderson...etc. However, I must say that the book slightly improved my verbal reasoning in a way. The tests vary significantly in difficulty and there is no explanation of the answers what so ever! One or two tests do improve the way you look at sentences and make you understand and see patterns. No tests with paragraphs of text then questions where the answers should be true, false or can't say. That's what I wanted!

An important book but why so expensive

I rarely buy books but this one has joined the select few in my practice teaching library. It provides a very simple look at social work skills (50 are listed) and knowledge.

The only dissapointment is the price. Students will probably not pay the [price] that the OU are asking which is a pity

Great CV book - just what you want

Excellent book. Covered all the CV stuff I was hoping it would. Well written (as you'd expect from the books in this series). Also personally found the"Brilliant Interview" book was excellent, along with"How to Handle Your Recruitment Consultant" (different series and different style but still totally invaluable in a job search).

Good book for practice!

I got this book because I'm looking to join the Fire Service and one of the entrance parameters is Psychometric testing. Therefore I got this book to practice and it is great. You get about 300 questions on each section so there are lots of questions and category's to choose from.

Good introduction to NLP

This is a great book for people who want to learn some NLP and test the effectiveness of NLP techniques before immersing themselves deeper. <br /><br />The book is entirely practical - it is loaded with 43 different exercises / experiments you can do to improve different aspects of your life. <br /><br />The book has some essential NLP techniques - such as Swish pattern, Fast Phobia Cure, Creating Reapport, Circle of Excellence, Reframing, some basics related to working with Time-Lines - that everyone can benefit from learning and using. <br /><br />By the time you're done going through the exercises in this book, you're bound to become more empowered and know how to access your inner resources and run your mind and neurology to reach your goals and remove some obstacles from your path. <br />

Power vs. force

An amazing book showing us how consciousness can be calibrated. For anyone wishing to understand more about themselves and people in general this book is a fascinating read

How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie

This was my first purchase of any form of CD training. Travelling many miles with my job its just great to listen to the CD's (8 in total) in the car and this allows me time to reflect and digest the key messages. The book/CD is told in stories and examples which really helps the author explain his points clearly. The reader has a very 'musical' voice, and whilst no singing, you never tire of the tone of his voice. I read some comments about the book which questioned honesty and being straight with others. I certainly did not come away with that thought, it has made me try even harder to find good in others rather than easily finding fault. This book will never date and it seems a shame that many of the principles discussed and set are ignored by so many of us in our business and day to day lives.

Great book

I recommend anybody in sales to read this book, it will open your mind and eyes to a fascinating world of NLP

Another Beck big hit

Wonderful. No miracles but very insightful and you get to find a lotta stuff about yourself. The sooner you read it the better. I will give this to my child as I send her to college.

I think the criticisms of this book in the negative reviews given here are totally unfounded and ill concieved. This book is excellent. (Criticisms levied at the unrealism of the title are clearly levelled by the same people who went into fits when Katie Melua suggested there were 9 million bicycles in Beijing.) This is a good book that helps those who need help in this area. Personally I'd recommend this book along with"Brilliant CV","201 Best Questions to ask on your interview", and also"How to Handle Your Recruitment Consultant" which covers the key area that these other books don't. With those four books in your bag you will not fail.

This book is exceptional.

This book is exceptional. Anyone who asks me to refer a good book to them, this book comes top of the list. I was reading reviews before I bought this book and found the reviews to be quite mixed, therefore I want this review to be clear and too the point. For me this book gave me results and the thought processes to push myself further then I had before. The most important sections in my opinion are those on goal setting, making decisions quickly & stretching yourself.

So many ahaa moments

Fantastic read with an abundance of ahaa moments. Loved the description of offence and defence. I feel inspired.

A very good book if you wonder what MBA is all about

I recommend this book to everyone who wonders what MBA is all about. The chapters are small and not really boring. Language is excellent - it makes you feel reading forward. The book very concisely describes what are different segments taught in business schools. Before reading this book, I didn't have a clue about MBA. This books nearly answered all of my basic MBA queries.

Great fun- tasty like the drinks

Innocent was founded in 1998 by three Oxford grads, in 2007 it was the fastest growing food and drink business in the UK. Smoothies, are basically combinations of fresh fruit and fruit juice- an instant hit of vitamins to the system. Before innocent they were virtually unknown outside the kitchens of the health conscious- freshly squeezed organe juice was about as good as it got. Across the Atlantic however smoothies have been a hit for middle class office workers for years. The boys from innocent took, gave it a cheeky marketing spin and took the UK by force. Simmons looks in detail at how a seriously focused, commercially driven business can take a stagnant sector such as non alcoholic drinks and through a combination of good product, detailed gorilla style marketing, and hard but fair deal making can make a profit, expand and stick to their core ethical principals and have a green outcomes.- healthier consumers switching to a lower footprint product. It's a great easy read that cannot fail to inspire, and build respect both for the innocent team and their products, as well as have you laughing with the jokes and cheek of the labelling and marketing.

I’ve just finished this book and I now realise how amazing I am and what great skills and experience I have! I can rule the world!!
I loved the time-line work, so empowering. And I loved matching the MBTI personality preferences to past jobs. It really explained so much and made me much clearer about how I assess the jobs I go for in future. Really good stuff!
I’m now going to start looking seriously for work, and I do feel very confident that I will get what I want. This book has unleashed something within me.

Same old stuff rehashed...

If you go over to Amazon.com there are currently at the time of me writing 44 reviews and most of them absolutely glowing with all 5 stars. Apart from that there is a massive amount of hype about this book. I could not wait to get it home and start reading.<br /><br />It struck me before I got even half way through that this is a combination of many well known metaphysical/positive thinking/business manuals all rolled into one book. It says nothing that can't be found in books elsewhere. What also struck me is it has told me absolutely nothing I didn't already know. It DOES go into great amount of depth about HOW you create your own reality and how the world works on a metaphysical level, far more detail than I've seen before but still expanding on a theme.<br /><br />In some parts I felt like I was reading an NLP book or something by Anthony Robbins. In other parts I felt like I was reading the E-Myth and in other parts I recognised information I've read before in lots of books about creative visualisations and affirmations and in other parts it is just repeat of the nuts-and-bolts of business books.<br />I feel this book should be retitled <br /><br />I'm not saying that these principles don't work and won't get you to where you want to be...I can't answer that until I apply the principles myself for any decent length of time. What I am saying is that if you are fairly well read in books of this genre you will learn nothing new and in your case a more appropriate title would be 'The Answers That You Already Know Repeated'.
