Wow
This book is just amazing. A beautiful collection of strategic wisdom, stories, quotes, and metaphors. I love Robert Greene's books and this has to be my favourite so far. The book is not just a focus on war itself but also on our inner challenges as well, which is probably the most valuable part of the book to me personally. The strategies are presented not only in war situations but also in other areas of life, whether it be film-directing, boxing, or whatever. I refer to it often and feel inspired again and again by many of the stories, quotes and metaphors inside.

Great book overall.63

new approach to decluttering
I've read a lot of decluttering books to motivate me to get of my junk and some have been really helpful for a time. However, they've all concentrated on 'the stuff'. Peter Walsh approaches the problem from the other side, on how you would like your house to look and the purpose/functions of each room (if it wasn't full of stuff!). Importantly he also points out that different family members can see a different purpose for the same room and so see different things belonging there.

Taking the concentration off of 'your stuff' seems to make it so much easier to let go of it. I have pretty painlessly got rid of bags of stuff that I've had real trouble letting go of before. My house seems so much lighter!

65

Rock solid classic on sales fundamentals
Every book on sales uses the core principles that Frank Bettger laid out in this classic manual in 1947. These principles remain an effective part of the repertoire of most successful sales professionals. Bettger shows his belief in Dale Carnegie's putting-people-first tactics with his inspiring language, skilled storytelling and bedrock principles. While some of his syntax, especially the gender-specific pronoun use, is dated and the dollar amounts are small compared to today's figures, getAbstract suggests that every salesperson should read and master this basic, practical guide.66

The Version of Think and Grow Rich to Rule Them All!
This is one book I always get something new out of with every subsequent reading, even if I only flip to a random page. All you have to do is decide what you want and like so many have discovered, this book will show you the steps to get it.

Ross Cornwell's version restores chunks of texts removed from the 60's Ballantine paperback ('The Secret' enthusiasts will be pleased with what they'll find). This version also provides extensive endnotes to deepen the understanding and appreciation of Dr. Hill's 20 year research into the science of success. Unlike footnotes in other editions, the endnotes also allow for uninterrupted reading of the main text.

Order multiple copies of this one because it'll wear out from use very quickly and consider any copy you lend out as a gift because I can't imagine there's any way they'll willingly return it back to you.
67
Review:
Frankel presumes most women grew up in a home that oppresses women from growing up into full adults. What may have been true for 1954 is not as true today. However, her challenge is still with merit, and in 2004, it crosses the gender barrier. We men should be taking notes from Frankel. There are plenty of little boys among us who need to work as men.
"Rosie the Riveter" ads during WWII encouraged women into the workplace, but often as factory and shipyard works. There was no"Annie the Accountant" or"Sally the CEO" campaigns. Being all you can be means being more than you were as a child. Frankel helps show how women can be more than little girls in the office place, and garner success as a result.
It is important to note that as much as this is an important book for women who esteem to be seen as professional should read, men also should read it. Not every man has reached his potential, and some fall to the same problems, in a masculine variation, as do some women. Fear, exhibited through the lack of initiative and an overborne, unnecessary kindness, holds many people back.
Objective, straightforwardness is much of what Frankel asserts.
Being professional doesn't mean you need to convert into a stomping intimidator, but it does mean being firm, not wincing when rejection is forthcoming, and thinking about more than immediate relationships. It is about getting the job done well, in concert with others, but never becoming weak while doing it all. You have expertise. You have training. You have what it takes.
Although Frankel is a professional coach, her book itself shows a coach is not needed. You need to be in control of your career, without worrying about the next person. Retain your ethics, your integrity and your aplomb, but it is your job to lead the way through your professional life. No parents, no coach, no friends are responsible for this.
I fully recommend"Nice Girls Don't Get the Corner Office: 101 Unconscious Mistakes Women Make That Sabotage Their Careers" by Lois P. Frankel. Follow it up with the classic Dale Carnegie book,"How To Win Friends And Influence People," to learn the other side of the professional relationship balance.

More Than Rosie the Riveter
Men are men. Women are women. Right? The matter of gender is easy enough to establish, but in Lois P. Frankel's book,"Nice Girls Don't Get the Corner Office: 101 Unconscious Mistakes Women Make That Sabotage Their Careers" we learn there are underlying mores and premises to follow if women want to be at the top of a company. These rules are unspoken, but Frankel demystifies the process by which some women hurt their success by playing into the cultural roles prescribed to them growing up.Frankel presumes most women grew up in a home that oppresses women from growing up into full adults. What may have been true for 1954 is not as true today. However, her challenge is still with merit, and in 2004, it crosses the gender barrier. We men should be taking notes from Frankel. An excellent easy-to-read introduction to assertiveness.
I am a corporate trainer, coach and consultant and I often recommend books to my coachees to read. As usual, the Pocketbook series comes up trumps. The text is clear and easy to read. The layout is"reader-friendly", helped by fun cartoon illustrations. The book provides a simple but comprehensive introduction to Assertiveness and is a"must" as a first read in this subject, particularly for those who are short on reading time or inclination! I often follow this book up with"Assertiveness at Work" by Ken and Kate Back, if my coachee wishes/needs to explore further.71

Is there a place for creative people in this world?
I found lots of interesting information in this book, I suggest that you have a short look at it if you, like me, wonder if there is place for hm, yeah,"unconventional" (creative, self-expressive, human, extremly sensitive to some things, intuitive, with a excessive need of freedom, ...) people in this world. The book convince you that yes, there is a need for these kind of people in this world! The book is a light reading, with inspiring quotes, a personality test to see what type of creative you are, and a listing of professions according to your type.

Sloppy editing makes this book a waste of money
On the first page of this book there is a warning that 'occasional errors can occur in a book of this kind'. Only when you try and use this book seriously do you realise what an understatement that is.

The frequency of errors (from simple typos to equations that don't add up) prevent this book from being a worthwhile purchase. You wouldnt expect it in the real exam, and nor should you expect it from a recognised publisher.

With proper editing, this book might be more deserving of your money

78

Great book - but please do NOT get this version!

All it is, is a printed pdf file with a cover on it.

There are no lines between paragraphs, its printed on 7.5" wide paper and the text runs from edge to edge with hardly any margin at all.

I sent mine back as soon as I received it. Absolutely terrible!!!!!
When you start reading the book and do the tests, be careful, because the book contains number of mistakes. I found it extremely irritable because it destructs you from your main goal of practising. DO not bother timing yourself, because you will more than like discover that many of the practical exercises to not make sense. Why? Simply because the author made a mistake or left a digit out. Then when if you decide to check your answer with the answers given in the book, you will first have to find that answer, simply because the author decided that they don't have to be in any particular order or, indeed, numbered correctly!Overall, the book is a big disappointment and not worth it...

very well written and excellent information
One of the best books I have read. Learnt so much and it is very well written, complex ideas are understood very easily.
