Darker...Deadlier...Deeper
Deeper is the second book in the Tunnels series and follows the continuing story of Will Burrows deep in the bowels of the Earth. In Tunnels, Will discovered that the family he had known all his life is in fact his adoptive family, and that he was born in an underground society known as the Colony ruled by the oppressive Styx. His sister Rebecca is a member of the mysterious Styx royal family and is taking steps to enact a plot that will have devastating results for the surface dwellers or"Topsoilers".

Will must team with his brother Cal and friend Chester to try to find his stepfather, Dr. Burrows and thwart Rebecca's plan. The enemies are deadlier, pushing Will, Cal, and Chester to limits they never knew they had. They must fight the Styx, Renegades, and primordial animals as they work their way deeper into the subterranean world.

The prose has improved from Tunnels to Deeper as the authors find their groove. There are many plot twists that turn this book into one heck of a page turner- I couldn't put it down! The pacing has improved from the first book to the second now that the background information has been established, and the characters have continued to develop with new and surprising depth. Overall, this book is an enjoyable read for young and old alike- although it is definitely not for the faint of heart!83

Enchanting tale
Odd's father dies whilst on a Viking expedition, then, when chopping wood Odd crushes his foot and ends up with a limp and needs a crutch to get around. Now the winter seems to be going on forever. Will his bad luck ever end? Then Odd runs away from home because his stepfather is cruel to him, and beds down in his father's old log cabin. There he meets a bear, an eagle and a fox that are all under an enchantment. Together they have to try to beat the Frost Giants in order to bring the endless winter to a close. A wonderfully told fairytale that will delight young and old readers.85

Lost sleep
This book is the best in the series by far. I read the first in the series of George Martin's 'A Song of Ice and Fire' and I was blown away by it. So much so I wrote a review here on Amazon to exult it to those considering buying it. I have now read Book 1, 2, 3 part 1 and this book, A Storm of Swords: Blood and Gold, Book 3 Part 2. I was let down by book 2 and 3 part 1, they were good but not great and if I tried to write a review I could not because the plot all amalgamated into a fuzzy series of events that I think should have been shortened down. However this book makes up for the previous 2 completely. It is a fantastic read and truly insomnia-inflicting! I could not put this book down virtually till I finished it. There are more twists and turns in this book than any of the previous. Events that were dragged out in the previous two are teetered over the edge and thrown off into a thundering development that you cannot help but get swept up in. Remarkably characters that were evil redeem themselves, characters that were good frustrate and annoy the reader.

Martin's use of the written language makes him a master at his craft and can slow or pick up the pace at will and completely manipulate your emotions. If you are reading this review then I presume that you have read at least the first one in the series 'A game of Thrones' therefore I wont summarise the plot incase I ruin it for anyone.

If by book 3 part 1 your getting a little stuck in the mud from the length of the story and the lack of significant movement then please read on because it is worth it to reach this far.
86

Is it possible to be in love with a book?
I know it's such a cliche, but there is not a book in the world that is as FANTASTIC as Noughts And Crosses. It is actually the best book in the WORLD! Everything about it just...works. It has comedy, drama and the relationship between Callum and Sephy is so beautifully portrayed. I've read the whole trilogy and never has a set of books touched me like this one has.

Buy it! It will change your life! ;D88

Fantastic book
This book is absolutely brilliant. Even our daugther who is only four month old loves looking at the pictures and will happily listen to the whole book in one go. She keeps touching the pictures and follows our finges when we point things out to her.
I would recommend this book to every parent as it makes storytime with your little one loads of fun.89

Being summoned was never more fun
The Summoning is an excellent addition to the Kelley Armstrong powerhouse and fans will not be disappointed. I finished the book in almost a single sitting and had to be prised from the house to go to the shops or would have spent all day in the chair. How much bigger a recommendation can I give you?

Chloe is a disturbed and at times disturbing teenager who often seems older than her years yet retains an innocence that makes her absolutely charming. This is her story and boy does it herald an excellent series if the opening is anything to go by.

Buy this book and enjoy that 'star in the sky' moment that heralds another great series to be anticipated and enjoyed!

90

An excellent addition to any collection
This book is another Donaldson triumph. I have used it in a number of storytime sessions with a wide variety of ages and it goes down a storm. The language is clever with repetition and sing song moments. The baddies are really bad the goodies are really loveable and the illustrations are excellent. Give it a try. You'll like it!92

Great colourful pictures
My son is only 5 months, but he loves looking at this book even if he doesn't understand the"story" yet - there are lots of bright colours and things to see in the pictures. I can see him enjoying it more and more as he gets older as we discuss the content of the pictures (people, animals, clowns, magicians...) My only problem is to stop my son from eating the book! The CD is a great bonus.94

Three and a Half Stars
Magic Study picks up very shortly after the end of Book 1 - Poison Study. Yelena and her companions have journeyed to the land of Sitia, reuniting the stolen children with their parents. Yelena meets up with her own family but this is an awkward reunion. She doesn't stay with them long before journeying on to the Magician's Keep where she must begin her training as a magician. Unfortunately it seems nothing in Yelena's life is fated to go smoothly. Once again, she needs to use her magical abilities to sort everything out and once again it's her own life that's on the line.

There's a lot going on in this story: - Yelena's reunion with her family - the fact that her brother seems to despise her, Yelena enrolling in Magic School, a serial killer, a visit from the Ixian ambassador and the exiled heir of Ixia turns up. It's quite busy plotwise and Yelena is at the centre of it all - which leads to my problem with this book.

I'm not saying I didn't enjoy the story because I did (though not as much as Poison Study). But somewhere in between Book 1 and Book 2, Yelena became a little too arrogant for me. When four master magicians don't know what to do but Yelena does and they're looking to her for help it annoyed me a little. Apart from this her character is still well drawn and you want to read about her and her adventures. It's just grating that she's always right. Even when events spiral beyond her control, things still have to be done Yelena's way, because she knows best. It's a positive thing that she's so independent, but you can't help thinking at certain points that if she had just stopped and asked for help the outcome may have been resolved differently.

Saying that, there were plenty of other things I enjoyed about the story.

Yelena's time in the Magician's school.

The complex relationship she develops with her brother, who was the most interesting character in the book for me.

The visiting Ixian dignitaries because this means Valek, Janco and Ari are in town. Though Valek is not as present in this story as in Poison Study. Which makes sense as this one really is more about Yelena, but it was great to have him turn up. And Maria V. Snyder maximizes the impact of his appearances.

It quickly becomes apparent that Sitia is just as dangerous a place, if not more so, than Ixia, but in different ways.

I think middle books in trilogies can be tricky. So I am left wondering how fair it is to grade this book on its own, without knowing how the third book goes. I am heartened by reading other reviews that consider this the weakest of the three, as hopefully that means Fire Study is a return to form. I will be getting Fire Study but I don't have the desperate urge to immediately get it, that I did for Magic Study.
95

fashion fun for all ages
I ordered this for my eight year old daughter after seeing it on Amazon at such a good price. We have both had great fun designing outfits together and she has kept a fancy scrap book of her designs. With the book and just a pair of scissors you can have hours of fun. I would recommend it for all fashion loving girls from eight years upwards. It is truly creative and older girls could make very stylish cards etc.
I think it is book we will return to again and again, there are plenty of supplies to make hundreds of designs.97

I thought it was really pretty cool
I have been following this series since the first book came out but I have only just gotten around to getting Invincible. I have liked the series but I think I preferred the larger scale epic story of the New Jedi Order series. Legacy of the Force has a much different story to tell but one which I wish had more of a happy ending. It is also really nice to see the people who make the books and the legacy comics working together so the stories begin to link up.

I really liked this final book although it is pretty short for a hardcover. The use of the Mandolorians by someone other than Karen Traviss was cool to see. It was also good to see the plot being resolved by one of the younger generation with the classic heroes Luke, Leia and Han involved in more of a supporting role. Overall I really like the book and I think the new GA Chief of State is meant to be controversial and to make for interesting stories in the future.

100

Wow!
I saw the movie before I read the book and I totally regret it. But the book was amazing and I don't get how some people don't like"Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone." And I can't wait till I get the second in the series. (And if you've seen the movies, start reading the books now before more movies come out).
