essential reiki
I have been a Reiki/Seichim Master/Teacher for over 7 years and a Spiritual Healer for over 20 years. This book is both informative and instructional, unfortunately it feels as if the author has issues with the male gender and Traditional Reiki Masters in general, like one of your other comments I agree that the power excercises are not neccesary since the essence of the spirit does not require power but rather energy, there is a difference. Having said all this I still respect Diane Stein for writing HER book, it has given me another opportunity to learn from others.Bless you Diane.

Highly recommend
I highly recommend this book, It is jam packed full of natural, simple and probably much cheaper alternatives to shop bought chemically laden un-natural cleaning and toiletry products. I love the 'imperfect' part which summarises the books ethos of doing the best we can and being 'good enough'. This is a book is one you can return to time and again, and pass round friends and family too! Janey writes with wit and sense of humour and you know she has been there before you- and writes from experience.25

Each entry shows a problem, its probable mental or psychological cause, and a helpful affirmation for correction. We can then reflect or meditate in the suggested direction and eventually change our thought patterns or heal our faulty beliefs.
The book covers many specific symptoms (like anxiety, constipation, overweight, fainting); some illnesses (like AIDS, lupus, diabetes, cataracts, ulcers, arthritis); and parts of the body (like face, lower back, joints, wrists, and sinuses). Some of the more modern illnesses like fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome are missing -- but their components are there, i.e. fatigue, pain, skin rashes or appetite problems.
Louise Hay touches us with her true story about overcoming cancer, concisely discusses how we manifest illness, and gives us a truly wonderful meditation exercise for overall healing.
Excellent"hint book" for solving those incredibly difficult personal health mysteries.

Look at your illness in a metaphysical light!
So often, patients have no idea why they have brought a certain illness into their lives. Heal Your Body A-Z is a small, easy to use reference book which explains our physical illnesses in a brand new spiritual or metaphysical light. Each entry shows a problem, its probable mental or psychological cause, and a helpful affirmation for correction. We can then reflect or meditate in the suggested direction and eventually change our thought patterns or heal our faulty beliefs.

Paul Pitchford knows his subject matter and he has had many years of practise as a healer. He has vast knowledge in many areas of Oriental and Indian (Ayurvedic) healing and it comes through in his book.
What astounded me was the length of the bibliography at the back of his book. I could safely say that 'Healing with Whole Foods' is like an encyclopaedia!
I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who is on a macrobiotic diet and wants to know more about healing through diet, or anyone who wants to really understand the fine art of healing through food

Greens yes, but what about carbohydrates ???
If you do not get enough carbohydrates from eating fruits, at least 1800-2400 calories of fruits per day, you can never get enough energy from the greens. Greens are incredibly rich in minerals and amino acids, less in vitamins, and Fruits are incredibly rich in Vitamins and less so in minerals and amino acids so they are a great complement to eachother. However, without the fruits, the evening will be hell, feeling hungry like a lion ! [...]
29

At last an acheivable life changing bible!
Deepak Chopra's 'Perfect Health' is the Perfect companion for a week's holiday in the sun - just enough time to realign your lifestyle, and get just a litle bit of routine in your otherwise hectic lives. Start off by analysing your body type and be amazed by how true the results are. I loved the way that it gave me some insight into why I feel bad when I do, and practical advice about how to change it. Even if you take only some of it on board it does make a difference. I loved the diet tips and the easily acheivable yoga routine, all of which seem to fill you with energy. And as we all know, even reading and only thinking about making changes towards a better life makes some difference. Having tried a few of his recommendations I have no doubt that if you follow Chopra's steps to a better existence you will be on the path to a mind and body experience that with dedication could lead to Perfect Health.31

Refreshing surprise
I must admit I was ready to be underwhelmed by this, after all it has a multicolored cover and Doreen looks somewhat airbrushed on the back. I apologise to her for my cynicism because this is actually a very good simple introduction to chakra work which has had subtle but positive benefits for me.

I notice a few reviewers have baulked at the use of the word 'God' - I really think if you can stretch your imagination you should be able to interpret this in a way that works for you; in this context its a handy signifier for quite a complex thing and Im sure the author is aware that people of many faiths will read the book. I'm equally sure it won't make a lot of difference to the effect if you substitute w word that suits you better.32

A book for everyone
I am studying crystal healing and own this book. It is written by the same woman who wrote"The Crystal Bible" so they compliment each other well. Crystal prescriptions is excellent becuase you can look up an illness or complaint and find a list of crystals that can be used for it - rather than most crystal books which given you the crystals and a list of uses. It is also written so that a crystal healer or a complete beginner can use it for reference. A must have for anyone interested in home crystal remedies.33

A New Level
Is it possible to learn the Alexander Technique from a book? For most books the answer would be no (and maybe even no for Alexander's own books).
Alexander's books are a great source of primary information, but he certainly expects the reader/student to do much detailed work and self study.
(Fair enough as this is exactly what he himself did).
Obviously there a no real shortcuts to the Technique, however Missy Vineyard writes with amazing clarity and by
introducing new approaches and modern concepts makes it possible to achieve very real progress without the need for lessons.
As a long term student of the Technique and someone who has gained real benefit from its practice I can recommend this book without any hesitation.
Yes it is good to gain first hand knowledge/feedback from a teacher(though this can also have its drawbacks depending on the teacher!).
Yes you will still have to put in a lot of work and self examination if you work alone.
However Missy vineyard puts over the the ideas, principles and thought processes in a truly remarkable way.
Whether you are an absolute beginner or well down the Alexander path this book is an exceptional achievement
and will provide essential insights and guidance over many readings.
In short -- whatever your interest in the Alexander Technique, buy this book, I am sure you will not be disappointed
and I hope you will be encouraged towards a completely new way of life!34

Review:
A Classic, which has changed countless lives for the better.
I read this little book nearly 30 years ago, and was mildly surprised to see that it was still in print (it popped up in my Amazon recommendation list).

I was even more surprised to see that one reviewer called it 'overblown guff' and gave it a one-star review. Way back in the 70's, this book had a profound effect on me, and vastly changed my life for the better - in ways that still continue.

Anyway, the one-star review prompted me to buy it again and reread it, just to see if it was so hopelessly outdated as to deserve the bad review.

Having read it again, I'm left with the feeling that it's a true classic - and like most classics, that means that while it has a continuing relevance, it is also 'of its time,' and CAN feel somewhat dated.

This is an 'updated' version, though the main change seems to be a new 45-page introduction. I found this interesting as a commentary on the book's history, but have to admit that I found the overall tone a bit off-putting (for my taste it was a tad too self-congratulatory and smug).

After the introduction, the book seems to be pretty much as I remember it, and I think I can see why the other reviewer didn't like it. Much of the content now seems totally self-evident to us: Stress can lead to high blood pressure, heart attacks, and strokes; Our state of mind can have a profound effect on our body and our health. It almost seems too obvious to need saying.

But the thing is, when the book was first published, this was revolutionary stuff. This book was a crucial part of the paradigm shift that took us to our present position, where meditation is no longer seen as the preserve of weirdos and oriental monks.

So why is the book still relevant? Well, this handy little volume still gives, in my opinion, one of the easiest forms of meditation you'll find anywhere, offering the benefits of Transcendental Meditation without costing you the megabucks that the TM movement would charge you. And the scientific data is still relevant for anyone who's interested in the physiological effects of meditation.

In conclusion, yes, in the twenty-first century some aspects of the book will seem too obvious to need saying - but that's largely because this very same book first said them thirty-odd years ago! It's still worthwhile reading for anyone who's interested in meditation or the mind-body connection.36

I was fortunate enough to find a consultant (mentioned in the book) who has changed my medication, and my life!! This book could help anyone who is not feeling the benefit of conventional treatments to better understand their condition, possibly find another answer and hopefully lead a happier and healthier life. Surely that is worth every penny?
Good luck!!

Healing Pain - A mystery
The first review makes a fair number of points regarding the apparent arrogance and lack of 'how to' advice. That cannot be denied. I read this ten years ago during a particularly painful time and stressful job and was calling for Sarno to give more detail. I had suffered back pain for 9 years, the last 2 of those dominated by sciatica, and I thought it was mumbo jumbo but having tried every therapist: Chiro; osteo; sacro-cranium and some more besides, I felt I had nothing to lose and gave it a go. Literally 6 weeks later - I kid you not- the sciatica was gone. The back pain was gone. These conditions have NEVER returned. It's still something of a mystery to me.38

Bob Greene books have always been a worth while
I enjoyed this book and its approach a lot. Things I liked that I haven't found anywhere else:

* Mixing cereals to come up with a different taste. I guess I'm just not creative, but this was a cool idea I've incorporated into my diet.
* Starting out without any restrictions. Every other diet approach I've read recently starts you out with phase one being the most restrictive. This phase one is just the phase, helpful for me because it gave me time to read the rest of the book while not jumping into a diet AND exercise program right away.
* He gives a great list of exactly what friuts and veggies help which health conditions. Good reference page.
* Oprah's recipes-- they were easier and more doable than the others in the book. Especially the turkey burgers. A lot of the recipes just took regular recipes and made them healthier, replacing ground beef with ground turkey and refined flour with whole grain flour.
* He helps you take a look at WHY you overeat. I find myself asking"am I hungry? or am I just stuffing my face because I can't find another way to deal with the frustration of my 4-month-old daughter screaming?" It's usually the second, so I stop eating and say a lil' prayer.
* His emphasis on fiber. This is often neglected in a lot of health-conscious circles, but is vital to the correct long-term functioning of the innards.

I think he hits the nail right on the head with this book the most though. Weight loss is something that has to start first with your issues in life and with this book he helps you go from phase to phase as you progress along in your struggles with weight loss. I think he has a good out look on what it takes to loss weight and I think this is his best book yet.40

Gut and Psychology Syndrome: Natural Treatment for Autism,ADD/ADHD,Dyslexia,Dyspraxia,Depression,Schizophrenia
A must read book! The link between the gut and autism is too strong to ignore. We bought this book 5 weeks ago and followed the diet advice for our ASD son who is 4 years old. He has always got by with requesting things with 1-4 words"more orange juice"
He is now starting to speak in whole sentences"mummy can I have more orange juice please" and for the first time ever got on his bike and rode it steering and braking (with stabilizers of course!) which made both myself and my wife cry as before he couldnt even figure out what to do with the pedals!!
We are very pleased with the progress we have made in such a short space of time but obviously still a long way to go. Its hard stopping the naughty foods ie chocolate, cakes etc especially when other children in the family ask for them...luckily their starting to eat fruit and veg instead of craving sweet things now.
This book has made me realise what junk we pile into our kids and ourselves and yet we expect to remain healthy. The chemicals in cleaning solutions and every day products are staggering. With autism cases rising fast, along with mental health problems not all these can be genetic.
