5 thousand stars more like!! The best book I've ever read.
This book has quite literally changed my life, and the lives of those who have accepted Quantum Touch sessions from me. I consider this book and all that has followed from it to be the most profound gift I have ever received. Some people spend years and thousands of their hard earned cash on trying to attain the power to achieve levels of healing which are totally dwarfed by these simple set of techniques. Even the most hardened skeptic changes their tune when they witness years of agonizing suffering fall away with only a light touch, to be replaced by a liberated smile. I was a skeptic myself until I actually felt bones move (displaced knee joint - she couldn't walk, the QT sorted it out within minutes). Its amazing but true.

And to those who give the `Placebo Effect' argument, just try these techniques on a baby or an animal, or sleeping babies and animals. I've heard about countless healings taking place with Quantum Touch which are considered to be medically impossible (for example the occipital bones sliding into their correct position; scoliosis posture straightened after about 30 minutes of treatment, tumours spontaneously disappearing). The doctors just can't explain it. So they dismiss it. Its such a shame though, this easily learned and rapid healing / pain relief can be used by pretty much anyone and for pretty much anything. The limits of this work are not yet known. But what we do know is that it doesn't come with the long and sometimes scary lists of dangerous side effects that so many conventional treatments are coupled with. The main side effect of Quantum Touch that gets reported is a feeling of warm relaxation. And surprise, that's a pretty common side effect too.

For anyone who is still unsure, check out www.quantumtouch.com for photos, discussions and huge lists of healing stories. Oh and the free newsletter. There are also plenty of lovely folk happy to offer distant healing to anyone who cares to ask! This has to be the fastest growing positive phenomenon on the planet.
45
Review:
This book gives a fascinating account of some of the ways trauma work has evolved in recent years. It is framed around a particular episode of traumatisation which is developed in parallel with the theoretical model. Various other case histories are cited which give a real"hands-on" feel to the writing. The physiology and theory sides are clearly developed with references to other people working in the field - there is a strong influence of Dr. Peter Levine. Some of the physiology is not yet fully verified by research eg the apparent link between lack of cortisol production (one of the glucocorticoids produced in the adrenal glands) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This line of research has huge possibilities. Rothschild states clearly in the introduction to her book that the theory is speculative and that controversy abounds amongst researchers in the field. She realistically refers to her book as minimalist and short-winded and it is all the better for that. People's ego-attachments to their beliefs in theory, as I know so well for myself, can only hinder their capacity to really listen. Rothschild quotes neurologist Antonio Damasio on the subject of scientific theory ...."I am sceptical of science's presumption of objectivity and definitiveness. I have a difficult time seeing scientific results, especially in neurobiology, as anything but provisional approximations, to be enjoyed for a while and discarded as soon as better accounts become available".
Although the theory is speculative, the practice is thoroughly grounded in years of successful clinical experience. About half way through the book Rothschild really gets on a roll - this is when she introduces the practical aspects of her work - much is related to tracking signs or autonomic nervous system (ANS) arousal and ways of using this as an indicator of when to start slowing the process down and helping to resource the client. I have been having a long internal debate about to what extent this work is directive and analytical. As a client I have always felt at least a vague sense of discomfort when in the hands of a therapist coming from a directive and analytical viewpoint, due to a sense of being subtly (or not so subtly) manipulated by the therapist to do whatever they think is necessary, rather than respect for my own process and inner wisdom. Working with trauma is not the same as normal process work however, as Rothschild makes abundantly clear. My sense of this type of work, having been on the receiving end of it, is more that it creates a necessarily extensive framework of safety within which healing can occur. It is a method of work where the therapist takes a lot of initiative in terms of establishing clear boundaries, slowing the process down or finding resource. The concepts of attunement, misattunement and reattunement (not Rothschild's), despite being horribly ponderous terms, do lead to a very useful understanding of the development of therapeutic trust and progress. Briefly the phenomenon described is the shifting from an empathic state of well-being (attunement) to a polarised stand-off or conflict (misattunement) which then gives the possibility for finding the health in the situation which allows a greater level of empathy to develop (reattunement). This is seen as not only an inevitable but also a useful part of the healing process. In some ways similar to the way the immune system develops its strength as a result of coming in contact with say measles and then dealing with it (my analogy).
Babette Rothschild counsels against the use of therapeutic touch with the most vulnerable and de-stabilised of PTSD clients (classed as type II B -where"clients have suffered such massive and/or multiple trauma that they lack the resources and resilience necessary for any direct confrontation of traumatic memories to be constructive. A betrayal of trust appears to figure in the overall picture of these clients." Whether it is possible for body therapists to have a clearly enough developed sense of safety and boundaries to be able to work with people experiencing this type of distress is open to debate. The author points out that it certainly is something where extreme caution is essential because of the likelihood of transference issues where the client will start to see the therapist as the perpetrator of the trauma.
Rothschild investigates the phenomenon of different levels of trauma and PTSD in a number of ways - all of them useful and interestingly presented. Her explanation of the history of development of understanding of the phenomenon of shock and traumatisation is grounded in years of successful practice and teaching. She has enormous clarity and a transparent appreciation of the dynamics of trauma, which enable the reader to make a deep exploration of her work in a way which is readily understandable. There are two chapters on the ways of developing the somatic resources of the body - presented as simple exercises. This book breaks new ground in the understanding of trauma-related work, particularly with respect to the development of resource in relation to what happened after the traumatic incident. Every therapist who reads this book is likely to find their work benefits from it and all other readers will some hitherto unknown solace from it.

So, ohmigod, my recent dental abscess is apparently caused by 'grief or guilt, connected to the mother/food/love issue', my daughter's hay fever by fear of sexuality (that's to do with the pollen)/ fear of the passage of time (that's to do with the seasons changing)/ wanting attention (?). My recently diagnosed M.E. hardly surprisingly 'provides a hidden place where we cannot be reached, a shelter from the storm. There is always an excuse not to participate......This is a very loud cry for attention'. Well, thanks, that's really helpful and uplifting. Thank goodness I haven't bruised my leg though - that means 'you are knocking into something, or you're going in the wrong direction and need to re-route".
Although I couldn't help laughing at this book at first, I think it's actually seriously alarming to think that some vulnerable people might swallow what it says as if it's some kind of revelation. To be fair, I should say that I haven't read the book from cover to cover, but there again, I've got better things to do.

This book should carry a public health warning
I bought this because it was recommended by a friend, but now I can't quite believe that I have actually spent money on it. I fully accept that some illness may be caused/ worsened by stress/ holding in emotions/ having too high expectations of oneself, etc.; also that relaxation techniques and complementary therapies can be useful - so that section of the book looks OK, if not exactly ground-breaking. However, I found the diagnostic section full of patronising, offensive, over-simplified nonsense. The author makes the most amazing sweeping statements, yet it all sounds so plausible that you almost believe it - like when you read horoscopes in the paper, and everything could apply to everyone. This book is excellent
I have read this book and I have to say it is extremely well-written. The scientific evidence is particularly compelling. It' difficult to argue with HRV results, rouleaux, etc. I have tried the algorithms mentioned in the book on myself, family and friends and we are delighted with the successes. I hope this book will give Dr. Callahan and his work with Thought Field Therapy the recognition it truly deserves.50

Top quality inspirational and always accurate!
I was hoping Doreen Virtue would do some Ascended Master oracle cards so I bought these as soon as they were released and haven't stopped using them since! I use quite a few decks but these are the ones I keep coming back to time and time again. The artwork is stunning with high vibration colours, these cards always have a good vibe about them. They contain a few Goddesses and female ascended masters so they cover a few areas.

They are perfect for when you need quick guidance by pulling a card, I use these like this allot but I find them even better for daily guidance. I choose a card for the day and leave it out, they are more accurate than many daily oracle cards including Doreen's own deck in my opinion.52

Very helpful -- might have an equal, but nothing better than this
I won't say this is the one and only book or resource you will ever need -- there really are so many good ones out there. But they don't get better than this.

May not be a glossy text, full of pictures of perfect bodied former dancers, but the photos and illustrations are perfectly suited to the style of the book...

No nonsense, clear, concise, puts you back in control of getting better. I love my chiropractor, send her cards at the holidays, invite her to my child's birthday parties, but I don't want to be beholden to her or the physiotherapist or any other profession to 'make' me better. The program outlined in this book puts me back in control of the pace of getting my back into shape, pain-free, supple, stable.

After following the program for just 2 weeks, the referred pain from my lower back down my leg via the sciatic nerve (for those in-the-know, good old fashioned"sciatica") was entirely alleviated. After only a short time more, many of the long-standing postpartum pelvic pains are eased, and I am walking normally -- in other words the after-baby duck walk is finally gone! I have regained abdominal strength and control I never thought would be mine again after abdominal surgery.

I trust this program will be useful for a long time . It has led me to a local pilates teacher for more advice and help, which I believe has helped speed my progress -- but, nevertheless, on its own this book still can be of great help to someone not able to visit a physio or instructor.53

Its useful, clear and easy to follow. Plus its very clever in its simplicity or technique. No 70's style drawings... no naff bits that put me off.
Even my 'Reiki master' friend wanted to borrow it when she saw my copy... of course.. I said 'get yer own'...ho!ho! But i recomend this highly. Plus the techniques work for a reiki practitioner. One to refer to again and again.54

OK as far as it goes
This book is well set out and easy to understand and is OK for treating basic health problems. The materia medica sections are also good and clear. However, for anyone who is a bit more experienced, they will find this book rather lacking. For a start off - consitutional treatment is not really discussed so you will need another book if you want to treat constitutionally. Secondly, asthma, eczema and other long-standing conditions are not even mentioned. As I was looking for a book that would help me treat chronic but mild eczema I found this very frustrating! This is really a basic first-aid book for acute conditions which, if you have some experience will not be enough for you.57
