As someone into organic products, who likes to avoid nasty chemicals and live as naturally as possible, this book is full of information. It is also a beautiful thing to look through. Good value.

Don't bother

FYI: all the measurements in this book are in ounces and cups. <br />I was buying this book because I wanted to learn about Ph balance, how to achieve it, etc. I was looking for specific information on the subject. Instead what this book offers is a general lifestyle plan that goes something like: don't eat junk food, wear SPF and excercise. Wow, there's something I didn't know before. Revolutionary? Not!

The Essential Book For Electrical Facial and Body Treatments

This book gives thorough instruction on the main electrical treatments available today in the salon. Some of the topics, such as basic salon hygiene and saftey procedures felt unecessary as a student reaching the electrical treatment stage should have learnt these things backwards already. I suppose it does no harm to repeat them. The descriptions and uses of treatments was explained very cleary along with the method. Any student studying from this book should be left with a clear understanding of the treatments available to increase the effectivness of facial and body treatments. I was slightly disappointed that such treatments as chromolite and laser therapy were not covered in this book. Overall a well written text book for the beauty electrical student.

Best skin ever!

I bought this book after reading about Leslie Baumann in a number of articles, which praised her approach to skincare, and I am so glad I did!. Basically, she believes there are a lot more more skin types out there (16 in fact!) rather than the basic (and outdated) four: 'oily', 'combination', 'dry' and 'sensitive'. <br />You answer a detailed questionnaire in the book then read about your skin type (For example mine was oily, sensitive, wrinkled and pigmented), and gain recommendations on products to use, ingredients to avoid and treatments to try. <br /><br />My skin was in a dreadful state before I bought this book - sensitive, red and spotty(nice!) It turns out I was using the wrong ingredients on my face which was causing the redness and spots (sodium Lauryl sulfate in my cleanser was the worst culprit). Even after 2 weeks of following Dr Baumann's recommendations, I had seen massive improvements in my skin and I am spending considerably less on products (I now buy a £4.00 cleanser from Boots, as opposed to £10 + from the big name beauty counters).<br /><br />Over a year later, I am still following her tips and am totally happy with my skin - her message is stop wasting money on fancy creams that don't work for you, find the right products for your skin and it will thank you for it!

Honest, Innocent, RESOURCEFUL

I am well over 30 when I read this book and this book inspired me so much that I felt like a 20 year old. I have since applied some of the principles in this book and it is working for my business. I recommend this to any entrepreneur. I wish they will also introduce it to teenage schools so that it will inspire this zeal to"start early" in their lives. ..Mark

The best hairstyling book about!!

I loved this book. It noy only explains things like colouring and face shapes but it gives loads of styles to try. Some are a bit weird but they are forgiven as the rest of the book is excellent. I recommend this to anyone who wants to re-do their image or just wants a fun girly read. As well as the info their is a continuous story following four friends. You instantly love these girls as they are fun, happy and they seem real and you can connect with them. The story is also well written as the girls are just like your own friends. This book made me realise how to style my hair and how to look after it. Buy it!!

Bobbi on ageing gorgeously

While dedicated no-surgery women may disagree with Bobbi's recommendation of 'light' procedures (remember she comes from New York city, where it's viewed differently), there's lots of heartfelt and helpful suggestions in this new book. You don't have to agree with it all to get some really good ideas. I particularly liked the emphasis on 'soul' beauty, and her advice to eat organic, do yoga and meditation, and live life fully, whatever your age.

perhaps more style than substance?

My initial response on receiving this book and flicking through it was that I'd made an expensive mistake in buying it. I enjoy reading books on fashion and style and consequently get through quite a lot of them. This one didn't look as if it was going to add much - after all, how many people find inspiration in a suggestion that they book a manicure? I've found it improves on closer reading but I much prefer Deborah Ollivier's book"Entre Nous", which covers much of the same ground albeit without the beautiful lay-out.

best thing i have read on how to clear skin

a very clear, thorough and helpful book. all acne suffers should read this and take karen's advise. it has helped me understand my skin and it's needs.

Lovely stuff.

This is a beautifully produced book with lots off pretty pictures complimenting the clear and practical instructions. It would be a useful addition to the library of anyone interested in making their own dross-free cosmetics.My only criticism, and a very slight one at that, is that the ingredients of some of these recipes are rather more expensive to buy than the author indicates, although if you shop around on Ebay and the internet you can cut costs a bit whilst also finding some very interesting sites with more recipes and information for free. The recipes I've made so far have worked very well and resulted in some lovely stuff!

does it hurt? nah course it does'nt

This book is a great guide for anybody who is interested in having a piercing done, or maybe just interested in learning a little more about the practise, the book guides you all the way through the process, from types of needles used,jewellery sizes, cleaning techniques and healing times. if your thinking about getting a piercing done but maybe your a little worried about it, buy this book its sure to put your mind at rest! go on.. you no you want to! 10/10 Marc Pepperrell. The diet that keeps on giving

This book consist of three main parts.

In the first part, dr. Perricone describes superfoods and their purposes. The description of different foods made my mouth water, especially with the idea that most of my favourite food also happens to be super healthy food. The superfoods are:
1. Açaí
2. Garlic, onions and any other members of the allium family
3. Barley
4. Wheat grass, barley grass, blue-green algae and other green foods
5. Buckwheat
6. Beans and Lentils
7. Hot Peppers
8. Nuts and seeds
9. Sprouts
10. Yoghurt and kefir

In addition to this, any deeply coloured food or “rainbow food�: tomatoes, blue grapes, oranges, dark green vegetables etc.

Another vital part of using these superfoods is that EVERY meal should contain (lean) protein, low-glycemic carbohydrates and healthy fats (olive or fish oil). (For those doubting the necessity of using healthy fats to look good, let me refer you to my seventy year old Spanish auntie: not a wrinkle on the old bird and she still has a waist).

The second and third chapter are somewhat commercial: dr. Perricone uses the opportunity to promote his own products. The second chapter describes pills and powders to be added to your diet. You might already take some supplements (vitamin pills, power supplements), but the supplements described are a bit different. From the supplements suggested, fish oil capsules are the only ones I’m considering to actually use.
The third chapter describes topicals. Does that word sound strange to you too? He means facial creams and gels. Again, different from the ones you would know from the shop around the corner, but nothing that convinced me to buy them (yet).

Now, you may think that the commercial chapters of the book put me off it. Not so. In fact, if you focus on the first chapter only (which happens to also be the major part of the book by the way), you will be pleased. It took about three days of following this diet (which I enjoyed very much) before looking at my surprised reflection: I actually looked better than I had in a long time.

The book ends with a 28-day program and recipes for the dishes proposed in it. Great recipes. The annex contains a lot of potentially useful where-to-buy information, but unfortunately most of them are US based stores, so not much help to the folks on this end of the ocean. Not a problem, most of it is simply food that you can buy in any (organic) supermarket.

The book is also filled with stories (no telling if they’re real of course but let’s assume they are) which helps read through the sometimes quite academic, but therefore quite well-founded, explanations of the benefits of certain products.

The harshest critique on this book is that the food dr. Perricone suggests is expensive. True. That is, if you compare it to the food you would normally buy. Now, I propose you compare it to the food you normally buy, plus the day cream, the night cream, the foundation and the special eye cream you normally buy. It is THAT effective.

Did I mention my husband bought me this book for my 35th birthday, when I really started freaking out about looking old? I love him so much...

a very good book for a beginner like me

I have no clue about makeup and would like to learn from the basic. This book explains what shades you should choose to suit your colour so that is quite helpful. Once I have tried a few ideas from this book and gain some experiences on makeup, then I will buy another more advanced book to learn more.

Body Confidence

This has to be the ultimate book in feeling good about yourself! It is a fabulous read, written with humour, warmth, insight and understanding - I have never read anything that hits the nail on the head so completely. Other books do not even come close to showing you how to achieve self - confidence and boost your self - esteem as this one does. Part two of the book - the body journey is an amazing experience which really provoked huge changes in how I saw and related to myself. Friends of mine who have also bought the book have found that they too are changed after reading it. I think that what makes this book different is that the author - Astrid Longhurst not only has lived through her own body insecurities and has transformed them but that she is also a specialist in this subject. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Life really is too short too spend it disliking even a part of yourself and this book gives you back the power and the confidence to really live your life to the full in a body you love and are proud of. Body Confidence should be compulsory reading! A friend of mine has written out some of the sayings in the book into a little notebook that she keeps with her. Whenever she is having a bad day she reads the note book and re focusses back on what she has learnt through the book. Brilliant stuff! Change is hard enough but with body confidence by your side you feel that you have a best friend who is always there and will never let you down. Buy it!!!

excellent foundation book!

I was looking for a make up book showing the main techniques as well as the foundation of the make up. I did borrow few books before that (such as B Brown etc..) but I was disappointed as all of them were promoting their own products and hardly anything was said about face shapes, skin tones, tricks of the eye etc.<br />Joy Terri book is excellent - it shows the most important brushes, other equipment as well as teaches you how to establish what type of skin you have. The book is very easy to read and you will be able to develop skills on how to minimize effects of small eyes or big nose and to tackle any"unperfect" face shapes and issues.<br />It is exactly what I was looking for!<br />Thank you so much Joy!

steering the right course

In an area of interest already overloaded with hype, jargon and misinformation it was a relief to find a book with clear and useful content. Dr. Lowe offers sensible advice and workable method without talking down to the reader - and now I feel it's far better to understand how the skin works, what it's mechanisms are, and then make informed choices and decisions based on that information. I'd rather know the truth about my skin than follow a list of the latest fashionable product names blindly. I would recommend this book to family and friends, and as a fair-skinned person, particularly because of the medical advice dealing with skin cancers.

Lots of Fun to be had with this Interesting Book

I recently bought this book for my girlfriend - She'd been saying she wanted to start making her own lotions and potions for a while.<br /><br />It's been a good read: well-written and interesting, informative, but never patronising.<br /><br />She's not made everything from the book yet, but she has made several, and they've all come out well. And she's enjoyed using the results! We've had some fine times watching good-smelling things bubbling away in the pan!! Looking forward to seeing how the other potions turn out.<br /><br />The instructions are clear, and the ingredients were easy to get hold of. <br /><br />We recommend it highly.<br />

A 'must have' that's great value for money!

This book is a 'must have'. It is helping me through my level 2 beauty qualification and I know it also contains all the information I will need for level 3. That's good value for money.
The step-by-step diagrams are really easy to follow, as is the writing. Everything is explained really clearly and it's written in a way that's so easy to understand.
