Used Price: £1.90

Review:
the nervous girl's guide to nip and tuck
An easy to read and informative book. Dr Bowler's clearness and reliability comes through the whole book. I didnt realise that botox could be used in so many areas effectively and that there were so many non surgical treatments available. I found the chapter on Lotions and Potions most interesting and helpful and will certainly follow the tips. Reading patients personal stories gives the book complete realness and honesty especially to the"beginner patient" in this area. I must for every girl's book shelf and I never need to think about what presents to give my friends ever again! This is it!

The Skin Type Solution: The Revolutionary Guide to Finding and Caring for Your Skin Type

Our Price: £8.09
New Price: £8.04

Review:
Very useful and great advice for ALL skin types.
To get the best from and for your skin you need to know which one of Dr Leslie's 16 skin types you are.

There is a questionnaire in chapter 3 but dont skip ahead to that or you'll miss some great info along the way. After taking the test you go to your relevant chapter and find out what you can/cant do and the prodcuts and procedures that will work for you.

This has been the best £ I have spent in connection with my skin. I am a DSNW (which means Dry, Sensitive, Non pigmented and Wrinkled) which was a surprise to me but it makes sense when reading through the description of skin type, this book has both US and UK product information.

I have always had difficult skin and products meant for sensitivie skin didnt always work but now I know why. There are ingredients for each type to avoid and to look to include.

There is literally something in here for everybody. BUY IT!!!!

Bobbi Brown Living Beauty

Used Price: £10.50
New Price: £9.00

Review:
ageing gracefully...
I bought this book after reading a few interviews about ageing gracefully according to Ms Brown and the art of make up against wrinkles. I was half disappointed. The pictures of beautiful middle aged celebrities are obviously retouched. The make up is almost the same on every picture and I found most of them almost better in the" before" than the" after". Worse, most of the advice is about cosmetic surgery - light procedures, but including Botox. Although the theme is all about getting older as Mother Nature intented us to, the reality is about braking as much as we can without being spotted as vain. I am not sure about the mix message of the book and felt slightly cheated. I am a fan of Bobbi Brown make up products and I've bought all of her books so far. But this one left me with a slightly bitter view of what is expecting me.
I'd recommend this book only if you really have no clue about how to use make up and do not dare to ask a girl behind a counter. But I'd expect any grown up Lady to be, by then, able to.

Fantastic! Theres everything you need to know.
I found this book really good. It's the make up Bible for all women who want to feel and look good. Theres noting more that could be added to it. It goes through each part of your face and gives you great tips on which makeup would be best for your skin type and occasion. It also gives you information on which make up would compliment a certain part of your face. I would recommend it to anyone. I certainly give it two thumbs up!

Review:
You Can Feel Confident in Your Style Choices
I read this book in 1983 and it literally changed the way I think. I had understood the concept of color, but never applied color analysis to skin tone -- only hair and eyes. After reading this book, I determined my seasonal palette and have been faithful to it since.

It's nice to know I look good, and decisions have been simplified. Wardrobing gets easy with Carole Jackson's help.

Fine for complete beginners
This book has lots of basic information on what to put and where to put it but I thought that some of the looks (maybe it was the photography) were not flattering to the models at all. For that reason I didn't find it inspiring at all.

Really useful advice for anyone who has ever had a zit
This book is so well done, and the whole thing is so pretty. I really learned a lot about my skin, especially for oily skin care. I also liked the fact that there are no products mentioned, so the author is very impartial. She explains what to look for, but doesn't plug any specific brands.

Making Natural Liquid Soaps

Our Price: £7.99
Used Price: £7.61
New Price: £3.96

Review:
Concise, thorough and inspirational!
Making liquid soap is not rocket science but it's not child's play either. With this publication Catherine Failor has succeeded in"demystifying" the process and while I wouldn't describe the book as"liquid soap making for dummies" it isn't overly complicated either. In my opinion someone that has some experience in hot process soap making will find it much less daunting to get into liquid soap making but a complete novice that follows the very clear step-by-step instructions and photographs should be able to make a successful batch of liquid soap at the very first attempt provided they use one of Catherine's recipes from the book. If you are an experienced soap maker or, like me, find it very difficult to follow any recipe to the letter without"tweaking" it here and there, the book contains all the information, charts and tables to calculate and formulate your own recipes. A fairly comprehensive trouble shooting section will be helpful in saving problem batches (and saving face with the family).

The book has recipes and formulations for liquid soaps, shampoos for the whole family (including baby and the dog), bubble baths, shower gels and many ways to personalise and vary them. I find the chapter on fragrance formulations very helpful as I often lack imagination or inspiration in this department. These products make superb gifts and could be made and sold to supplement the family income too. The book is beautifully illustrated but I think I would have preferred it if there were less photographs of rubber ducks, hair brushes, fruits and vegetables and more pictures of the finished products with ideas for packaging and presentation.

If you're practical, crafty, and prefer natural bath products, this book is a must for you.

The New Book of Perfumes

Our Price: £6.74
Used Price: £4.49
New Price: £5.10

Review:
A wonderful mini-encyclopaedia
A perfume guide written by a man? Surely women should be the best judges seeing they wear them? But not here, as John Oakes expertly shows us in this delightful 320-page mini-encyclopaedia, discussing the world's most famous and loved scents in almost intimate detail. This book should be on most women's shelves, an alternative to poetry when in need of therapy! My only complaint would be that John Oakes seems to classify the perfumes by women's age groups, suggesting often that women"over 30" should avoid this or that. Perfumes don't necessarily fall into age categories, it is all a question of personality, mood, season and individuality. We are as young as we feel.

Bobbi brown and me
I use this book as a resource for when I do conventional beauty or lifestyle shoots. It doesn't offer a great deal for the aspiring fashion make up artist but is good for anyone considering a career as a bridal make up artist or image consultant as it offers good basic information that would suit a less avante garde market.

Natural Facelift

Review:
Please save your money - I wasted mine!
Abysmal, rambling hotchpotch of odd advice delivered in an objectionably self-satisfied tone. As other reviewers have commented, the section on actual facial exercises is very sparse indeed; to get to it you have to wade through tons of nonsense about slathering mashed banana, among other things, on your face, or positioning your feet to attain the best posture to benefit your face. Possibly my worst ever amazon purchase - and I buy a lot! There doesn't appear to be a 'no-stars' rating, otherwise I certainly would have opted for it.

Review:
Excellent Book. Everything you need to know about beauty, skincare, treatments and the cosmetics industry.
I first discovered this book and 'Don't go to the cosmetics counter without me' when i was in Australia and ordered it for my sister back home. It is the BEST book i have ever read on skincare and beauty treatments. Very honest and informative. There are so many different skincare products out there, that all promise to work different miracles on our skin. Paula Begoun tells us the beauty myths and how she experinced, first hand the marketing ploys cosmetics companies use to encourage consumers to buy their products.

She tells us how expensive isn't always better and how it's the ingredients that matter, which are just the same in cheaper lines as the extremely expensive. There are some very interesting ones; one face cream that cost £95 used no more impressive ingredients than one at £5. It's the mis-leading marketing that's impressive NOT the cream!

I'd recommend this book to any women who uses skincare products or is interested in various treatments from laser to acne procedures. I have wised up to the marketing used by cosmetics companies and no longer listen to the skincare advisors who will basically tell you anything to get you to buy something from their range. I have saved a lot of money and have established a simple and more effective-than-ever skincare routine. I would also really recommend buying Paula Begoun's other book 'Don't go to the cosmetics counter without me' which gives a review of every skincare product and cosmetic from most of the lines out there. I never buy anything now, without referring to it first!
