it's a long time since I've done any sewing & this book has inspired me to take it up again. Lots of very pretty, but quite easy projects to try. Easily adapted & even includes everything you need to make your own Cath Kidston bag!!!!!

What a lovely book - have been engrossed just looking at the pictures and designs. Patterns seem easy eenough to follow for a beginner (who has a wee bit of experience reading pattterns) and there is plenty of selection to choose from. Can't wait to get started on some and a great way to use up ends of wool.........definitely a good edition to a knitter/crocheter's library!

20 To Make: Sugar Animals

A really good book. Ideal for beginners/intermediates. Easy to follow and includes some great ideas. Highly recommended.

If you want your house to look like a child's bedroom...

I hate pastels and particulary pink. If you want your house to look like a 5 year old's bedroom - then you'll love this book, If, on the other hand you are a grown up and don't feel the need to put a soft toy in every room in the house,or to have french vocabulary embroidered onto everything then you may be disappointed - as I was. It gave me a headache looking at it.

Really helpful

Although this book is a little dated and I probably wouldn't use any of the designs that are featured in it, it is really useful. The explanations on how to do different techniques are really clear and there are lots of useful photographs to back it up.

Scared of crochet!

This book makes learning crochet easy. I've been a knitter for ages and always wanted to try crochet, but been a bit too scared. Debbie Stoller has a great conversational style of writing, which makes following her directions simple. And the pictures help loads. I would definitely recommend this book for beginners. I can now crochet, and it took an afternoon to learn the basics! I've still got a way to go, but Im very pleased with my progress in a short time. And loads of great patterns to crochet. Thanks Debbie Stoller!

Great for learning

I am new to Crochet, always wanted to learn it. But both my mother and my nan prefered knitting, so I never learnt how to. After reading the other comments on this page, I decided to go ahead and buy this book.<br />Its easy to understand with great diagrams throughout. It is explained easily and theres even a left handed guide that runs along the side of right handed.<br />This book had taught me a lot, everything from the basic stitched, to american conversions.<br />Its also small enough to pop into your bag, so theres no bulky book to lug about!

GREAT book

Basically has everything you need to become a very good seamstress. Teaches everything. <br /><br />The delivery was pretty quick too :))<br /><br />I recommend this product to anyone

A good way to get (back) into knitting...

I am enjoying this book, however, I did find some of the instructions a bit difficult to follow - but that could be more to do with my own inability to knit than Debbie's instructions! I did need to call on my mother a few times to help me out with patterns. That said, I do think the book is a good introduction to knitting, and I enjoy Debbie's style of writing.

Not for beginners!

All the other reviews seemed to be very sure that this was a good book for beginners. I have crocheted before, but it was many years ago and I pretty much needed to start from the beginning. I found this very difficult to follow, I think if I had decided to work my way through the book i may have been fine, but there is a particular pattern I wanted to do (not a particularly hard one) and as an 'encyclopedia' i would have expected that to have been straight forward, but it isn't designed to work like that. I ended up Googling the pattern and finding much clearer instructions.

Crafting Springtime Gifts

One of the best books I have ever bought, it really is to Tildas usual high standard. I have probably made 80% of the projects and each one I have been delighted with. Great instructions with good photography. Some really cute things to make. A must for anyone who likes to make soft toys as it includes patterns for sheep, chickens, rabbits etc. A great easter make book!!!

works for me

i could not draw to save my life. a work mate who used to teach drawing told me about this book and even lent me his for a while, what a difference it has made its fantastic. i can now draw still life stuff am blown away by how easy drawing is. i thought drawing was a gift but it can be learnt. was so impressed i now have a copy. some reviewers have neg comments on the theory behind this book but i saw the documentry about the two sides of the brain that this book mentions and it was an eye opener i believe it and this book proves to me that anyone can learn to draw. if in doubt there is only one way to find out give it a go you may surprise yourself i did...

Not very good

Very disappointed as it is more geared to 'sticking' and 'gluing' than sewing patterns. Don't think it should be called 'make' as I would have to go out and purchase the product before I can embellish it. The outcome is likely to be that I won't be bothered!I originally bought this as a Christmas present for my Mum but I am too embarassed to give her such an awful present! Complete waste of money even though it was cheaper on Amazon.

A Must Have Book

I saw Poppy's work for the first time last year and fell in love with her naive style of embroidery, at an exhibition just before Christmas. I have made a couple of the purses and found the instructions very easy to follow. My next project is to make the the green bag with bee and daisy flowers. I and am now practising with the free style writing and making good progress. I highly recommend this book if you like free style embroidery and I eagerly await Poppy's next delight!

A great book

This book is fab - great pictures which inspire you to sew. As a novice I found this book very clear and easy to follow - can't wait to tackle my next creation.

Nice book - easy instructions to follow. Bears are a good size and patterns are easy to adapt to make your own special bear be adapting items of clothing. Good value for money and nicely illustrated.

Bland and Basic

The author, in the introduction, states that they had very little experience in sewing. I would put it to them, that they also lack an imagination. The projects are extremely basic - in fact you could flick through any home sewing book or home crafts book and find the same projects. All that's changed is the photography - to coincide with the"vintage" craze that seems to be happening. Personally it didn't appeal to me - as I happen to like colours - not endless rooms of gauzy whiteness.

What a great book! Have already completed one of the recommended throws and can't wait to knit more......patterns are very easy to understand and diagrams/photos give great guidance to make sure you are completing project correctly. Some really nice patterns that can be alternated to design an individal throw of your own choice........well recommended for any knitter - even beginners......if you can knit and purl you will be able to follow most of the patterns! <br /><br />

Patchwork made easy

This book is easy to use and the templates are a great way to start you off. If you want a book that is simple to understand and gives you a range of patterns to follow that are easy to use then this is the book for you. The templates are easy to cut out and to use.<br />Not a book of how to do everything to do with patchwork, but one that introduces you to easy patchwork quilt patterns that are all made using the templates provided.
