Lovely book
I bought this book in November, the front cover caught my eye, but then i suddenly noticed the authors name.....she was my course leader on my teacher training course a couple of years ago! I glanced through the book and knew I had to buy it to add to my collection of textile books.<br /><br />The book is packed with lovely inspirational photos, I just wanted to get straight to my sewing machine. Lots of good explanations and ideas for your own interpretation.<br /><br />An execllent resource for any designer, beginner, teacher, college student. I recommend this book!24

Cute teddies
This book is presented well and the charting used is easy to follow,however I have several complaints about this book.<br />Firstly it did not explain how to start the loop to begin the crochet rounds and I had to refer to another book to work this out.<br />Secondly the little teddy pattern has most of the pattern missing for the arms and legs so I just had to make it up to finish it, not great for a beginner! I will conceed that the finished teddy is extremely cute and has both my daughters fighting over it. Time to make another one!27

FANTASTIC EASY TO FOLLOW BOOK
This book has to be the best sewing book I've found, I was after a something that would help me through some of my more challenging projects. This book has everything you need whether you're new to sewing or experienced, from all the basics, to more advance in tailoring, soft furnishings etc.<br /><br />Straight forward explanations and clear diagram's make this this book easy to follow.<br /><br />In my opinion, a copy should be in every sewers kit !<br />28

Not for beginners
I have wanted to learn to crochet for some time, and was taken in by the cute looking animals on the front of the book. I thought that this would be a good guide and easy enough to follow, due to the reviews I read.<br /><br />I have been trying for some days now to teach myself to no avail. The book shows the large variety of stitches that can be used, but gives absolutely no indication of how to combine them as required in the patterns.<br /><br />The book does not even show how to make a very basic square of crochet. In fact it does not even show how to finish a line and start a new one. So for a beginner it is very difficult, frustrating and very much throws you in at the deep end.<br /><br />Hence I have spent much of my time, since receiving the book, trawling internet sites which teach the absolute basics before I can try the simplest of the patterns in this book.<br /><br />It is still very a nice and cute book, with lots of lovely ideas, I just hope that I can pick up the skills from elsewhere to enable me to get the best from it.29

wish I'd got this years ago
I found this book really helpful, My wardrobe was full of clothes that didnt do anything for me, I never knew what to put on in the morning, I got confused between style and fashion and just put on my safe clothes instead. This book helps you to bring out your own style and its so easy. I had the ultimate compliment from my husband, he said I looked good but it didnt look like I'd tried at all. This book is an extension of the fabulous website Becky runs. Definitely lots of new ideas, particularly for"budding" scrapbookers. As a"seasoned" scrapbooker, I found lots of inspiration and helpful prompts to be a bit adventurous. Found the cards very useful when attending a recent craft/stamping fair as I knew exactly what I was after and the"look" I was attempting with my pages.33

Got Me Through My 1st Sewing Project in 22 Years!
this is a great reference for someone who can sew a straight line but little more. It's a quick, practical, UNDERSTANDABLE, guide for the procedures glossed over in most patterns. The only part of the book that I would expand is the layout, marking, and cutting sections. This is where I would have appreciated a discussion of different techniques/shortcuts that will not ruin a project. Overall a great little book, the kind of thing I'd like to send my kids off with when they leave home.35

I only took up knitting five months ago, when all my friends suddenly started having babies! Although I'd learnt the basics as a child, I've re-learned everything from books, and this is definitely one of the best that I own - the patterns are clear and easy to follow, and the 'how to' section is also very helpful. It's also nice to see patterns for more modern baby clothes, and so beautifully photographed, too.36

This book basically taught me how to crochet, and the different designs are great for practising stitches (clusters, popcorns, bobbles etc). Only problem I had was that it mentioned crochting 'on the wrong side' when making bobbles, and there was no explanations for this. <br /><br />The colours are beautiful though, and I think struggling a little helps you learn - it certainly gave me a real sense of achievement. I am now a crochet obsessive, and have even taken to making flowers in my lunch hour at work...37

This is a comprehensive guide to using heat to alter your textile creations. The first section deals with tools and their safe use (essential in this context!) and the rest of the book suggests wonderful projects using all kinds of material, including a lot of recycled ones. The illustrations are an inspiration in themselves, and Kim's style is delightfully conversational as well as clear. Well worth it's cost.39

Imperial measurements!
Oh dear, it's a US book, all written in Imperial dimensions, does not even use angles in degrees! The good thing was it forced me to think the whole thing through from first principles, and I made a nice little spreadsheet which does all the dimensions for common rafters, only got 1 jack at each end, so will do that with a peice of string!40

Brilliant!!
Eagerly ripped open the package when the postman came and was immediately inspired. Straight off to the wool shop after breakfast and spent the rest of the weekend engrossed. Really easy to follow instructions and patterns, and each square knits up really quickly meaning you don't get bored doing the one piece. Can't wait to finish this one to start another!!!! A really well designed book (ringbinding so the pages stay open by themselves), with clear pictures of each square.
nice little book
I just wanted to say, after reading the reviews on this book, this is really a useful book for wedding bouquet ideas. If you are not sure in what kind of flowers to have, this will give you lots of ideas and you can use the book show to your own florist and you don't have to use the exact styles being featured.<br /><br />I love the fact that this book is sub divided into colour schemes and the photography is really excellent. For me personally, I get ideas about the colour combinations especially when they combine more than one colour in a single bouquet. You can work these colours into the whole of your wedding theme. A good colour book if you like. <br /><br />No regrets in buying this book.
