tasty low fat food!!!
Wow, this is the third book I have by Gino and as usual I am not at all disappointed. The recipes are all really easy to follow and all very tasty. The butternut squash and rocket soup is a big hit in my house, also the breakfast bars are a must and I make a batch every week. You must try the Chicken breast with parmesan, tomatoes and mozzarella yum!!and my husbands favourite spicy beef and wild mushroom stew double yum!!And best of all I'm losing weight as well so it's well worth buying.I have an obsession with cookery books and at the moment this is my favourite.

Slimming the easy way?
As a person of a certain age I find that diets have very little effect for me, even if I am very good about sticking to them. This book offers an alternative approach to the problem which should fit in with most lifestyles. I am following the regime without too much difficulty and have definitely slimmed down (a little, but it's early days), although that is not yet particularly reflected in my actual weight. I live in hopes!

Review:
Better as a eating guide than a diet...
My boyfriend and I started this 'eating plan' a week ago (we are both 26) and we have seen noticeable differences, both good and bad, since then. Have we lost any weight - yes. Have we lost any inches - yes. Do we feel better in ourselves - debatable.

We decided to follow the plan on the Sunday, wrote a list of the foods we would eat for the following week and the ingredients we would need and purchased them on the Monday ready to start the plan on the Tuesday. Here is a quick summary;

Day 1 - pleasantly surprised that the muesli breakfast did not need any additional sugar. Soup for lunch was lovely but the portion size was much smaller than we would normally eat. After dinner we were still feeling hungry but put that down to cravings for things we had cut out as the only thing we actually wanted to eat was chocolate.

Day 2 - 4 - portion sizes were more manageable and started to fill us more but our moods got progressively worse throughout the week. For the past 4 days we have been bickering and snapping at each other and although we are feeling full from our meals we are not feeling satisfied. My boyfriend was feeling very faint as well.

Day 5&6 - It's the weekend and we have decided that although we will not go overboard we will relax and eat what we want (in moderation) to see if we feel better.

Day 7 - Back to the eating plan and feel much better in ourselves. No more bickering, no cravings for the things we have cut out and feel better.

It is now day 1 of the following week and although we have deviated from the written plan I can honestly say I feel a 100% better. I think that removing so much all at once to follow the rules was too much of a shock to the system and not good at all. I have learn't that my boyfriend needs much larger portions than me (which aren't really catered for in the book) but I can provide him with this as I now understand the rules. I do intend to be a bit more leniant again at the weekend but only because that is what works for us.

From this book I have learn't to control my portion sizes and that it is easy to make tasty meals when I get in from work (I don't have to make things at weekend to freeze which usually end up being things like lasagne. I also save money on not having to go out and buy my lunches at work too.

If you want to lose weight and eat healthily then I would recommend this book, simply for the recipes which are easy to cook when you get in from work (I get in from work at 7pm and I don't mind cooking them). But I would also advise you to bear in mind that if you, like me, don't overeat but do eat the wrong things, you may find it difficult to stick to the plan and feel better from it. I will definitely continue to use the book but I will use it as more of a guide rather than a full out eating plan as it just didn't work for us.

Baby-led Weaning: Helping Your Baby to Love Good Food

Our Price: £6.80
Used Price: £4.50
New Price: £4.90

Review:
Wish I'd never tried purees!
Got this book when 8 month old started refusing anything (except fromage frais!) on a spoon. I was a bit desperate to work out how she could have a healthy finger food diet and not subsist on rice cakes and toast. This book is great for allaying any fears about baby led weaning and to use to back up what you're doing when talking to friends/family members who may worry that the baby will choke. After reading this book I am a total convert and can't believe I ever put my daughter through the puree feeding. She is a very assertive baby and likes to be in control so is loads happier feeding herself than having spoons of puree thrust at her.

Only disappointment was that there were no recipes for interesting finger foods in the book. I guess the point is that the baby can eat whatever the adults are having but this isn't always practical and, as I'm starting with an older baby, I would like recipes for fish fingers/meatballs that would help her get her protein/iron.

Truly Amazing
I bought this book to use alongside the information I received at my weekly Rosemary Conley Diet and Fitness class. It is very easy to follow and has all the menus, exercises and helpful hints set out for each day for the month. The menus are easy to shop for, cook, they use readily available ingredients so your shopping budget doesn't increase and my whole family eat the same meals as me. Overall a great way to eat healthily, lose weight and get fit for the whole family

Review:
Paul Mc Kenna - I can make you thin
I like the way that the book is written in large print and actually easy to understand and follow. It is written in a style that is not patronising to people who are overweight, and is sympathetic to your specific needs. The CD is very relaxing and a great tool to accompany the book. I won't lie and say the weight is dropping off me, but the weight that I have lost over a couple of weeks means that my clothes now feel better and that food is no longer in control of me, I control Food woohoo. Top marks Paul xx

Pocket Calorie Counter: The Little Book That Measures and Counts Your Portions Too

Our Price: £2.90
Used Price: £0.44
New Price: £0.41

Review:
Useful - sometimes.....
There are so many calorie counter books out there and I just didn't know which one to choose. I picked this one based on the reviews and well, it's OK. There are times when it's really useful, for example an average value for an apple, or a pub measure of spirits, but other times when it's frustratingly hopeless. For example wine is given by the wine glass, but we all know there are many different sizes of wine glass, and it doesn't say which one the values relate to. Other drinks are given by the tumbler; same problem - how big a tumbler? I was looking for a book that had everything I needed, all in one place. Sadly, for me this book just isn't it.

Review:
Tends to get a little boring.
I have this book for a while, bought it when it was 4.99. Now that I've had it for quite some time, I've tried most of the recipes, they're good but not as mouth watering as the pics make them out to be. I appreciate the full page colour pictures as you know what you're going to end up with. After using the recipes in conjunction with a few other books, I'm actually not that ispired by these, they are not exciting, and I have only cooked them a few times. I think I'll have to abandon it for a while. For the first few week I was hooked, I still think its a superb book, it just need a little more flare!

If you found the review helpful, please let me know by clicking yes or no, thanks!

How Not to Get Fat

Our Price: £4.97
Used Price: £2.20
New Price: £3.30

Review:
Understand how you gain fat - to get rid of fat!
This is not a diet book full of recipes, so if that is what you are looking for, go for Food Doctors Ultimate diet. This is a book which explains the the process of food being eaten, digested, and how it can be converted to fat in laymans terms. I too am always lookng for new ways to help me shed the pounds and its very motivating to understand what is actually going on in your body when you overeat. It really helps to curb the appetite thinking about what you now know about the body when you reach for the biscuit tin. Not a recipe or diet book but a way to eat to be healthy and slim forever. I'll be sticking with this one!

Anjum's Eat Right for Your Body Type: the super-healthy diet inspired by Ayurveda

Our Price: £7.48
Used Price: £5.84
New Price: £4.50

Review:
Very interesting
I read this book with great interest pouncing on it as soon as it arrived, I originally thought it would be all Indian food (which I love) but it is not, it has well balanced recipes but interesting ones, cornmeal pancakes with blueberries was one I tried first, followed by Spicy Sweetcorn soup - this was on the same day as the book arrived! The book sorts out your main body type and advises a general diet for you, a lifetime diet not a quick fix. Each recipe advises if it is suitable for your body type or if you should make some minor adjustment or replace the side dish with something else. The book is well laid out, easy to follow with beautiful photos of each dish. According to the author one-pot meals that cook slowl, allowing all the ingredients to cook together are the ultimate meals in Ayurveda, this is ideal for me as this is the type of meal I like, but a lot of the recipes are quick and easy ideal for todays Mum in a hurry. Healthy meals that are appetising and tasty, great.

The Essential Diabetes Cookbook: Good Healthy Eating from Around the World in Association with Diabetes UK

Our Price: £12.51
Used Price: £11.57
New Price: £12.50

Review:
The Essential Diabetes Cookbook
This is a very good recipe book. It is very comprehensive and caters for all food types - meat;fish and vegetarian eaters. It is a good size - you can prop it up against a wall and read as you cook. It is attractively photographed.

The range of recipes from across the world made me restock my spices and also buy a new wok. I have to say that I had no time for A. Worrall Thompson before I read an article about the book. He just struck me as yet another celebrity chef amongst the many. However, he has created a very good book for diabetics.

The only problem is that there is no indication of GI factor in any of the recipes unlike my other cookbook"Quick Recipes for Diabetes" by Louise Blair and Norma McGough. However, Louise Blair co-authors"The Essential Diabetes Cookbook" and Diabetes UK are also involved.

To conclude I would recommend this book for anyone who lives with a diabetic in an effort to make fun wholesome food.
