Changing my life for the better every day.
This has been written by two people who realised that too many carbohydrates were bad for them. They read many other books and tried other diets and then came up with a very workable realistic way of eating.<br />Both writers speak honestly of their issues with food which I'm sure many of us can relate to. They are real women with real issues and managed to make it work for them - you can make it work for you.<br />If you're used to low fat, low flavour diets this is quite hard to get used to, BUT it works. It doesn't have to be expensive, although it does seem that way to start with. However, you are no longer spending your money on processed, refined rubbish with little or no nutritional value.<br />Another reviewer commented that all meals have to be prepared from scratch and that the diet seemed to be aimed at stay at home middle class mothers. Has it occured to this person that the high consumption of nutritionally poor packaged meals and take aways, both often containing hidden sugar, may be the reason why the world is getting fatter?<br />Do yourself and your body a favour - buy the book, read it thoroughly and then follow it. It does work and it really isn't that hard.3

The best book I've ever read!!!!
I bought this book last week and read it within two days. It is absolutely amazing the effect that this book has had on my attitude to food and my confidence levels! I know it sounds corny but I really do feel like a new person already! <br /><br />I've tried every diet on the planet over about a fifteen year span and my weight kept creeping up to almost 13 stone, every diet and exercise plan didn't seem to work and the pounds would shift very slowly. I could never understand why and so I kept looking for some answers - I think I've finally found them!!!! <br /><br />I was worried about cutting down on wheat and dairy as probably 95% of my diet consisted of these two areas but, after reading the book and listening to the CD, I stopped eating them straight away. Over the last six days my attitude towards the food I'm eating has changed dramatically and I'm now eating loads of fruits, veg, nuts and seeds along with lean proteins. I NEVER thought I would ever get to this way of eating - I always avoided fruit as I thought it was boring but I love it now. I'm not fussed about chocolate, biscuits, cakes, bread, pasta, cheese and I'm finding good and healthy alternatives for them - this really amazes me.<br /><br />I don't want to sound too much of a goody goody but the CD really reprogramms your thinking for the better and the book explains what wheat, dairy and junk food actually does to your insides. It isn't a book that states you must follow this program or else, Marisa explains about making choices in life and you end up really wanting to choose better foods for your body.<br /><br />I haven't weighed myself yet (6 days into it) but I do intend to and I will put an update on here when I have. My clothes are feeling much looser already, I stopped feeling bloated on the first day, my skin and eyes look clearer and brighter and I feel fantastic!!!<br /><br />Please, if you do only one thing for yourself, buy this book and you'll never look back!!!4

This little book was great. Had plenty of choice, book was well set out and the recipies were very easy to follow and the majority were relatively quick to make (vital for when you get home from work starving and could eat your body weight in food before turning on the kettle nevermind the oven). Having tried two of the recipies on the weekend (and not having killed anyone as a result) I declare this book a success!!<br /><br />5

A second word of warning
Amazon do not make clear that this is simply the"paperback" version of a previously published book of recipes. <br /><br />If you already have bought the"You Are What You Eat" Cookbook: Over 150 Healthy and Delicious Recipes already then you will already have this book. It has been republished with a different cover, which makes one think it is 150 new recipes, but it is not.<br /><br />Other than that I would recommend this book as it offers some fresh ideas towards eating healthily. <br /><br />While Gillian may know a thing or two about nutrition, I don't think she is a very good cookery writer. The quantities to"serve four" are always way too much, and I always considerably reduce the amounts.<br />6

The only thing i liked about this book was the retro cover!
My mother in law bought me this book for christmas knowing that i am a serial dieter and always trying to lose weight. The first part of the book has a series of quizes and lists detailing high fat foods and how you can substitute them for lower fat alternatives. As someone who is very consious of the fat and sugar content in foods i didnt find this helpful at all. I dont ever eat crisps or savory snacks, i hate bread, never drink fizzy drinks and stay away from biscuits at all costs because i know i can resist them, so the substitutions didnt help me at all because i have already cut all those things out of my diet anyway. The only thing i do eat that is bad is chocolate!!! They have a recipe in there for chocolate truffles but there is no gain out of making them. it would be easier for me to break off two squares of chocolate and hide the rest than go through the process of making these frankly delecious and irresistable truffles that i cant stay away from!!!! The first chaper is on breakfasts but unless you rise at 5.30am or earlier there is no way you are going to achieve any of these as they are so fussy and complicated. Similarly the soups and salads have ingredients in ive never heard of which really put me off and i personally wouldnt got out of my way to buy bits of pieces of things for these highly complicated salads. I have tried a few recipes from the book and they were admittedly very nice but most are complicated with unknown or expensive ingredients. For anyone who has a full time job like me and likes to eat before 8pm in the evening this book is overly complicated and ambitious.7

From there you follow the plan for that body type, it lists what meats you can have an in what quantity, what fruit and veg you can have and also what type of carbohydrates are best suited to your body shape.
Using the book on this occasions I made sure that I marinated the meat and fish the night before so that they were succulent and ready to be cooked the following day, Michael even gives you some marinade recipes to use, but you can feel free to come up with your own versions using spices, herbs, lemon or lime juice even a splash of Balsamic Vinegar. But absolutely no fat can be used when cooking, so steeping, broiling, baking, poaching, steaming and dry frying are your very adequate alternative.
I then also used his recommended exercise plan by using my Strider that has been very handy for drying clothing over the years but I haven’t actually physically been using it. You then exercise at 50 - 65% of your maximum heart rate, (Michael explains how this can be calculated), for 20,30,45 or 60 minutes depending on your fitness level. You need to check at regular intervals to ensure you are working hard enough and determine if you need to slow down or speed up. I decided to invest in a heart rate monitor watch which I will continue to use. I entered all my details in so I hear an audible beep if my heart rate is too low or too high.
After 6 days I am 6 and a half pounds lighter and feel esctatic about it. Michael says you could lose up to 10 pounds. I am happy with my results as it has given me a great jump start, I will continue on now to the next phase of my healthy regime.

Achieving real results !!
This is the third time that I have used Michael, he is especially good to use if you have that all important do and an all important outfit to slink into. Fun and fabulous.. and a kick up the arse
IMO this book is what a lot of people need. If you strip away the"turn vegan" arguments then what you get is two women who want to share their way of staying slim and healthy, and really what counts is their no-nonsense attitude. If you don't like it, go on Atkins or something because they've chosen to share their own way and they're not forcing it on anyone.<br /><br />Although you may not agree with being vegan, all of their points are backed up by research and their sources are listed in the back of the book.<br /><br />Since going vegan I've never felt better. I honestly never get food cravings anymore and find food in general easy to resist when I'm not hungry!<br />And to boot, the weight is dropping off...<br />9

HOW EASY IS THIS!
I have been on this diet plan for 5 days now and have lost a staggering 10lbs and my husband (who only has 1 stone to lose) has lost 6 lbs! The meals are quick and easy and I haven't felt hungry once. The family eats all of the meals and the kids haven't complained one bit. The weekly shopping list makes things easy and if you have to buy a pack of something it all gets used in that week (unless advised to freeze some of it).<br />Worth while buy to kick start any diet.10

A weight off your mind
I bought the original book and then got this after attending one of the Weight Loss seminars a few weeks ago. I can honestly say I have never felt better than I do now. I started this at the beginning of July, the day after the seminar and I feel amazing. I fully admit I was sceptical as anything, but now I just feel happy and relaxed! I don't worry about what to eat, I even find that the relxation techniques help with work-related stress etc. I don't step on the scales everyday looking to see if it's gone horribly wrong, eating out doesn't fill me with dread. Buy this and the original book and you'll never look back. If you can make it to the seminar as well it will help with the rest, even though the price looks a lot it's the best money ever spent. I can't encourage you do to this enough! If you've started it too, good luck to you!11

Useful Resource to Own
Being underweight most of my life, I decided to 'fatten up' so wanted to know how many calories were in foods in order that I can make healthier choices whilst putting on weight. <br />No calorie book is going to contain absolutely every food type on the planet but this one is quite comprehensive so useful if you're trying to cut down on, or like me, add, calories.<br />Worth buying in my opinion.12

I am just coming to the end of my juicing week an all i can say is wow!! The book itself does the job explains the diet etc but the actual diet itself is amazing!! i have never felt better i have more energy an i feel so positive to continue after the week of encorporating smoothies an juices into my diet!!<br /><br />im not heavy over weight just had 2 stone that i really wanted to shift for summer so i started with this book i can safely say i have lost 6lbs an feel great about it, i never followed his exercise regime to the T ie i couldnt get up at 6 to go for morning exercise but managed to exercise at lunch time in between work an also every evening either jogging or biking.<br /><br />i also purchased the juice wall plan which shows exactly what shakes to have, before even starting the plan i immediatley cut out half the shakes as i knew i didnt need 5 juices a day i simply had one for breakfast one for dinner an one for tea of course with any diet there are one or two that arent the best in flavour but you know how many vitamins and minerals are in there that it powers you through!!! i have come away from the diet with 3 firm favourite drinks that i shall be having regularly!!<br /><br />of note though i never purchased the wheatgrass or spinuloa i think thats correct so you may even have better results with this!!<br /><br />good luck everyone!13

It works, it's safe, it makes sense
In about 6 months, I've lost 17Kg on this diet, and it's been very easy and effective, largely because you don't starve, in fact quite the opposite, you make sure that you don't feel hungry by eating the right kind of things regularly. <br /><br />There's nothing faddish about the diet itself. Indeed, it's not really a diet, it's an approach to nutrition that makes sense even if you're not overweight, and is based on sound nutritional principles. Best of all, once you've read the book (which doesn't take long), you're equipped with some very simple principles on which to base the way you eat - prefer whole foods over processed ones, for example, and don't fill up on bread and potatoes. <br /><br />Having said that, it's the science and enthusiasm for a healthy life that is Rick Gallop's strong point, not his cooking, and some of the recipes in this book are just too dull and unappealing for words. Read this book for the principles, and look for tasty ways of eating GI-friendly food elsewhere. <br /><br />Admittedly, despite my joy at losing weight so effectively, after a couple of months or so, I had days when I got desperately bored with eating low-fat/no-fat foods like chicken breast. Furthermore, although the author, as many nutritionists, says that you shouldn't reduce your calorie intake by more than 500 calories a day (or lose more than 1-2lbs a week), if you follow the book to the letter, you could easily do this, and at one point I consciously broke a few rules to make sure I didn't pile it all back on later. <br /><br />As Mark Corben says in his review, this book won't help you to negotiate the difficult things like birthdays, Christmas and the unexpected, and it's probably not suitable if you're going to do hard stints of exercise. The food does get a bit repetitive and dull at times, and it's quite labour intensive to get right - no quickly thrown-together sandwiches to fill a gap, for example. <br /><br />But then changing your eating habits takes a while, and has its inevitable frustrations. I found what the author said to be true - that after a while, you find the occasional inevitable intake of hi-GI foods make you feel bloated, uncomfortable and unsatisfied. This was the right book at the right time for me, and the nutritional advice is excellent, whether you're dieting or not.14

We have stayed at Montali twice and always hoped they would write a book. Now they have and it contains all their delicious inventive recipes, written and photographed beautifully and gives an insight into the philosophy behind the Montali experience. The recipes are clearly written, with humour, and rated for difficulty with all ingredients being carefully explained. Anyone who thinks vegetarian food is boring should buy this book - and give it to all their friends!!18

Admittedly I know a lot of it is water but what a motivator to keep me going. The best thing about the Atkins is there is NO HUNGER, NONE, NO STOMACH CRAMPS, NO DIZZY SPELLS, NO CRAVING SOMETHING SWEET, NO THROWING CAUTION TO THE WIND AND RUNNING OUT TO BUY A CHOCOLATE BAR.
I have to seriously consider incorporating this into my lifestyle.

Well I was on of the sceptics but...........................
I have to confess something. A friend of mine was raving about the Atkins diet and she has lost a lot of weight. It didn't make HEALTHY sense to me. About five years ago I went through an addiction to working out and I was able to lose A LOT of weight, maybe the fact that I was in the gym everyday caused me to eat less as well. However, I noticed the weight creeping on again and no matter how hard I tried to lose the 12lbs that I gained I could not shift it. Low calorie diets failed because I was always hungry and all the other ones seemed so complicated with the points and grams etc etc .So................................

Inspirational
My husband buys me a cookbook every Christmas. It's a standing joke because he does all the cooking. By the time I get the next one, I can do 1 or 2 recipes. This book, along with the way of eating, has changed all that. I am cooking all the time and really enjoying it. My husband is really enjoying eating the food (and he doesn't know that I am on a"diet"). If I can get enthused by making truly delicious food, then anyone can.
