Veggie Burgers - 'open the packet'...
I was searching for some kick-ass vegan recipes but this book really disappoints - filled with meat, cheese and even egg replacement products, it really lacks imagination and innovative recipes.<br /><br />If you have just turned vegan or vegetarian then fair enough you can still have a 'chicken' sandwich or a 'tuno' sandwich but to those more seasoned this book lacks variety.

Being a man I did not think that this book would work for me but my wife suggested that we give it a try and see what happens, In the first month I lost a stone and a half and am now maintaining my weight. This is an excellent book for the novice raw fooder or someone like me who wants to eat high raw with a family to feed. The best thing about this book and the way it is different from ALL the other raw food books is that it enables me to PLAN meals because the author notes how long the finished food will last. No other book does this. I know some people think you should make everything from scratch as and when needed, but this puts alot of people off. It is not practical with a family you are trying to feed healthily to not have anything in the fridge or cupboard that you can give them. You need to work in advance sometimes and that is possible with this book. I highly recommend it for this reason.

Bad Back? Buy this book
After months of pain and misery and bucket loads of painkillers this book lifted me out of the hole. Within days of performing Sarah's exersises I was back to work and enjoying a comfortable nights sleep. Three weeks later and it is hard to imagine I have been diagnosed with a prolapsed disc, my recovery is nearly complete. If it had not been for this book I would eventually have had to gamble with surgery. Even my GP is surprised by the turnaround.<br />Many thanks to Sarah Keys, keep up the good work and hopefully some of these techniques can be introduced into mainstream medical practice.

Curry without the guilt!
I love Indian food but as anyone dieting will know without very selective ordering a trip to the Indian can be bad news for the waistline. Here is the book to solve your problems, good recipies, easy to follow, loads of colour photos. Tried and tested on friends who are not watching their weight and all agreed meals taste great. Details given for those on Slimming World but would be fine for anyone dieting generally.

Less than a week on this diet and 8lbs lighter
I cannot commend this book enough. In September of last year I tried the previous revision of this book. It was my first attempt at dieting as I, like most people, loved my food but as I was now in my thirties I could no longer eat anything I wanted without taking exercise and feel no effect. My waistline had grown steadily from a loose 32" to a really tight 34" (effectively 3 sizes) within around a 3 year period and I didn't want to go up another waist size and start making excuses about my double chin.<br /><br />I got some good scales and borrowed the book from a friend who said it would work as it did for him. I weighed 14 stone at the end of September. The next day I stocked up on the food I needed and commenced my diet. I noticed daily waitloss instantly and by the middle of November I weighed 12st 5lbs. I had a couple of business trips away in between these times and didn't stay on the diet every day. But that's the beauty of this because you don't have to punish yourself as it's effectively a 24hr diet.<br /><br />You can have a carb fix and be bad some days if you want and the next couple of days be good and you'll still notice the difference. And by being good I don't mean eat cardboard and lettuce leaves, you can have cream of chicken soup for lunch, big juicy steaks for supper and the best bit, bacon and fried eggs for breakfast. All this and I could finally get into those jeans and that shirt that I couldn't look good in before and I felt fantastic. The added bonus here is that I could go out at night with friends regularly and still have alcohol (wine or spirits) and have a great time with them whilst still losing weight.<br /><br />I hadn't been watching what I've been eating since last November and steadily gained weight from eating all those carbs again and weighed in at 13st 8lbs on Monday last week so I decided to give the new book a go together with the cookbook. I have really gotten into it again and cut out most of the carbs completely. I weighed myself this morning and I'm under the 13st mark! 12st 13.4lbs. I've lost more than 8 lbs in less than 7 days. I knew this would work again but I was truly astonished at the speed of the weight loss this time around and I can go another couple of weeks on this and hopefully reach my target of 12st.<br /><br />Get this book and it will work for you. You have to abstain sometimes and I have virtually no willpower, but believe me, once you see the results you won't mind and it'll all be worth it. It's the best thing for under a tenner I have ever bought.

This book was one of the first books I read on Cancer which I found to be extremely helpful. <br /><br />The book is well-structured giving concise and coherent information. For those of you who have received devasting news about Cancer and are trying to find out about it, then this book is a must read.<br /><br />The First Section explains in detail how your body works, what Cancer is, how it begins and how minerals etc balance the body and fight against Cancer.<br /><br />The Second Section explains what type of side effects you may experience during your treatment and how your body reacts to the treatment and suggests practical ways to combat them.<br /><br />The Third Section suggests how eating the right foods can provide maximum benefits for combatting Cancer and the side effects of your treatment and provides solutions to dealing with Underweight/Overweight problems during treatment. This book provides meal suggestions and a comprehensive list of which types of foods are essential to eat and avoid. These are foods which are easy to buy and are not overly expensive. It's also very easy to incorporate into your daily diet.<br /><br />Overall the book provides a greater understanding of the body and how the right Nutrition can aid the body to fight against Cancer. <br /><br />Before I read this book I felt as the world had just collapsed on top of me and I had so many questions and fears. However, after reading this book I had a clearer picture of how to move on in a more positive approach.<br /><br />I give this book 5 stars as I truely believe that this book is essential for anyone with Cancer.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />

My new favourite cookbook
As a lifelong vegetarian I've stopped buying cookbooks as they tend to be a bit samey. However this was given to me recently as a gift and I'm finding it totally inspirational and loving being back in the kitchen.<br /><br />It's got some really useful nutritional information that I was previously unaware of, loads of interesting suggestions for upping your intake of particular minerals and most importantly, every single recipe looks absolutely delicious.<br /><br />The GI diet info is really useful but almost by the by - eat this food and you won't feel like you're denying yourself a thing.<br /><br />I can't think of a bad thing to say about it.

Even non-veggies will love this book
Before I got this book, I'd never cooked a lentil or chick-pea, and had little interest in doing so, it's now the mainstay of my cookery shelf. <br /><br />Have several vegetarians in the family so I started using this book to try and get recipes that would allow us to have a meal where everyone ate the same food, so I needed vegetarian recipes that were attractive to non-veggies. This book came up trumps.<br /><br />Everyone I feed from the book ends up wanting their own copy!<br /><br />I don't agree with the cheese and egg gripe in one of the other reviews, the dishes are well balanced and so far the only cheeses I've used are mozzarella and parmesan, both in moderation.

GL for calorie counters
Great book , appetising pictures , nice recipes which use easily available ingredients and larger portions than patrick holford or nigel denby. However some contradiction with both patrick holford and nigel denby viewpoints on gl value of some foods. Some recipes do contain sugar in various forms other fast carb foods(rice) and as the gl of the recipes is not given , I am a little dubious that they are low gl. He seems to advocate watching the calories rather than the gl of foods and cites this as one of the reasons for not calculating gl of the recipes. A Little dissapointing overall as does not lend itself to using recipes with other gl diet plans.

Every dish is simple to prepare and healthy.<br /><br />If you know of more tasty, easy-to-prepare dishes that are healthy and support a lower weight, you'll eat better. My suggestion for you is that you acquire all the South Beach Diet cookbooks you can. The Taste of Summer Cookbook will be one that you'll cherish because the recipes take great advantage of the fresh foods available at low cost during the summer.<br /><br />My experience with the South Beach Diet has been just amazing. Follow the diet, and the excess weight effortlessly disappears. Add quantities of foods unapproved on the diet, and the weight piles on like magic.<br /><br />This book came along at just the right time for me. I was ready for some taste variations from what I normally eat to lost weight on the South Beach Diet. Delicious, but this isn't fast food!
All the recipes I've tried from this book have been absolutely delicious, and the ingredients should all be sourceable on line or from your friendly local Asian supermarket. But please don't assume that 'on the go' means these recipes are quick to make! O-bento are eaten on the go, but the dishes are not necessarily prepared so rapidly, and if you are not a traditional Japanese housewife who routinely gets up at 5 am to boil rice and simmer gobo, you will not be preparing these foods daily for your brood, or your partner, to take to school or work. However for the keen cook who wants a taste of authentic Japanese packed lunch, this book presents the real thing, and hence comes highly recommended.
