A Great Resource
This is a fantastic resource for anyone just starting to get to grips with e-pr. Full of ideas of how to make the best use of the internet to drive your public relations campaign.

However, it is very Americanised and, unless it is updated yearly, it is unlikely to keep up with the fast pace of the net.
3
Review:
"Call for Action" focuses on how we can improve the conversion rates. Not from a technical or academic or conceptual standpoint. Instead it takes a rare PRACTICAL and down-to-earth approach on how to improve conversion rates to improve sales and thus profits.
What is CONVERSION? Virtually all websites have a persuasive purpose; to get someone to subscribe, to register, to inquire or to buy something. And if all we get is 2-5 per cent conversion, we ought to review our website. Do we offer a product or service that could meet the needs of more than 2-5 per cent of the market? Can visitors find that, solution on the website? Do they understand our offer's value? Was it made at the right time? Are we sure they're coming back?
NAVIGATION is the biggest challenge websites face, the authors argue. The issues are: What to do with the traffic once it lands on the website? How to get visitors to take the first action and click deeper? And once there, how to induce visitors to click to the next step, and the next, and the next?
The fundamental idea is that a PERSUASIVE ARCHITECTURE links a visitor's buying experience to our company's sales process. It bridges the buy/sell process in a measurable way. If you can influence visitor behaviour and empathize with visitor motivations, you can influence results to provide a better experience and more frequent, effective conversions.
The book is filled with illustrative screen dumps of websites (before and after a change). This is a great benefit of such a how-to field book on e-commerce improvements. In my opinion, most e-commerce sites can recover the book's cost price in a few days just by following one or two of the practical suggestions in the many diverse case studies.
The primary focus of this book is e-Commerce. The key messages on conversion, however, are important to anyone running a large website.
This is a rare book. I've been involved in e-commerce since 1997 and read many interesting books on this topic. But I've never found such a practical approach to optimising e-commerce web sites as this one.
The brothers Eisenberg call themselves"wizards of web". I agree and hope my existing and future competitors don't read and act on this book. These secret formulas to improve online results are very effective, indeed.
If you're looking for a conceptual e-commerce theory, please look somewhere else. This is about the nuts and bolts about making money with an e-commerce web site. If you don't have or don`t plan to have such a website; forget about this book. Then it's a waste of time.
I also recommend Jakob Nielsen's books on web usability and Steve Krug's easy-to-read"Don't make me think".

Well Written, Well Presented
Stephen Few nods more than a little to Edward Tufte when it comes to approaches to visual and information design, and this book is both a highly informative and pleasant read for that. While not quite in the same league as one of Tufte's works, Information Dashboard Design is refreshingly devoid of waffle and mere personal opinion. The design principles he identifies are not hard to grasp, and the theory and rationale for them is very well argued and presented. Few's invention of the"bullet graph" also ensures his place alongside Tufte in the field of information design.

We can only hope that his ideas will now catch on, and that the awful drek that infests the vast majority of dashboard designs by even the largest of vendors will be swept away forever. If I never see another big shiny gauge again, it will be too soon.

9

The book is really written for people who do not know ANYTHING about the internet and about marketing. It explains the plain basics about how important it is these days to have a webpage and how you can bring your business forward if you have web presence.
It did not teach me anything about Internet marketing that I did not know, and I do not know much to be honest. I just started in this business of marketing, and although it is a lot of fun, I would love to have more information in a book.
This book tries to explain to much, that you really do not want to know, it explains how to get a webpage, how to decide if you need a webdesigner or not and stuff like that.
It does not offer any information about blogs, e-zines, newsletters, adsense, adwords, mailing lists and so on.
I was very disappointed. Perhaps it is a good book for someone who is thinking about going into the web without knowing anything about it, but, I do not really think there are that much of this kind of people around.

A step-by-step strategy without the nonesense
Initially I was searching for a book about how to develop a simple website for my partner's decorating business. Having never done this before, I was attracted to 'Internet Riches: The Simple Money-making Secrets of Online Millionaires' because the synopsis made it sound so easy to do, though I admit I was expecting a book with lots of hot air and of little practical use.

I was very pleasantly surprised when I read the book. In fact,I was so excited that I started a book of ideas (recommended by the author, Scott Fox) immediately and have ended up with such a raft of ideas for ME to make money that I don't have the time to develop a website for my partner's business (sorry Mick!).

Don't let the American examples in the book put you off - the internet is the same both sides of the pond and UK versions of everything referred to in the book are readily available with a bit of Googling. Anyway, the simple step-by-step guidance would probably apply to any country.

Mr Fox has a unique way of connecting with his readers, as though they know him personally, creating trust and inspiration. His book is straightforward and full of information that even a British grandmother can follow, without all the padding that often fills self-help books. Every time I turn a page I find many ideas on how best to create my perfect e-business.

In all, if you want to be an Internet Entrepreneur - buy this book. If you are only remotely interested in setting up a website - still buy this book. You might find that it takes you somewhere you weren't expecting it to!

11

Boring, Boring, Boring!
Sure this book gives you the facts where the author knows them but with Larry and Sergey well known for not often giving interviews or much away there really isnt much you couldnt find with a bit of good web research. The biggest disappointment is that book is written in such a boring and uninvolving way with zero entertainment value. Has to be one of the worst books I have ever read!12

Down to earth and easy to read: a wonderful guide
The book covers very much everything you need to think of when starting your own business. From project management to accounting, Jim Smith uses clear language and several examples from his own company, in helping you to assess strenghts and weaknesses of this or that option when starting a small web design business.
It is very helpful if you're thinking to make some money out of web design, even if only as a freelancer. The book gives a full perspective on client relationships, including complete contracts, payment schedules and business plan templates.
The legal details are US-specific, so it might not be so hepful for non-US based businesses. Still, a good buy.17

Excellent technical introduction (or update guide) for WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007
Finding a good book for SharePoint Products and Technologies (SPT) was more challenging than I thought. But look no further!

This book was written by a group of SharePoint experts and it provides a thorough technical overview of both WSS and MOSS yet remains easy to read. A book providing instant ROI
It only took me three evenings to read this book. This book is catchy, it has coherency and is very well written. It contains numerous tips and has a lot of clarifying images.

Don't expect the full story about web analytics and how to interpret figures and metrics provided by Google Analytics. And I guess this wasn't the true purpose of the book. Web Analytics is quite difficult. It can't be explained on paper.

But you can surely expect an excellent in-depth overview of Google Analytics and how to properly collect and find actionable data in the generated reports.

After a first reading, this book remains highly valuable. I'm sure I will use it a lot as a reference book (with a handy index). Therefore, I suggest a hard cover for the next issue. A special edition for the fans?

If you're interested in the measurement side of online marketing, this book is highly advised. I've you like to learn more, if not everything about the Web Analytics power tool of Google, this book is a must read. You will not regret it.

It is a recipe for a growing enthusiasm for Google Analytics and Web Analytics. Brian Clifton gives you a long enduring ROI with his book. Five thumbs up for that!
19

A marvellous and exciting book
I began this book with some good, vague ideas about the kind of e-commerce website that I wished to write and build. By the time I had finished it, I had not just a tight and excellent strategy, but also the tactics to back it up. The book is very well written indeed. It promises and delivers a formula for web-writing that sells. It also excited me. It was like having an expert by my side who prompted me to ask questions. The net result? I felt stimulated into developing the core formula for myself. By the end, I was running with the ball. A fantastic book.20

A happy recommendation

A very easy-to read guide to search engine optimization. I particularly liked the case study which is used in the book, to show you how do apply the recommendations to a real site. In places, the concepts can be quite complex, so the case study was really helpful.

Don't waste your time with other books (I, have read them all), my business is now flying since finding this one.

real practical help, and a great read.
