Superb, highly recomended.

Really clear and easy to read.<br />Printed on decent quality paper and has a lot of other useful sections, a Section of popular verb conjugations for example. A colour political map of france, information on 'text message' language, sections on Time, Holidays, work etc.<br /><br />Best dictionary i've found, it's also a decent portable size, not too big and not so small it's fiddly to use.

Probably the best on the market.

I teach final year project at undergrad level and found this little gem not long back.<br />It's an easy and accessible guide for both dissertation writers and planners, both of which can be quite stressful. This should help to clarify the reasons you are doing a dissertation and thus help ease some of the stress.<br />If you are about to write one, get this book, oh, and good luck!

Great little book

If you want a pocket-sized phrase book that's easy to navigate with helpful pictures then this is the one. We had one or two adventures on holiday, including a visit to accident and emergency and the section on 'health' proved most useful! The book is colour coded into sections and has a dictionary towards the back. Found almost all the words I needed apart from 'drain' - still managed to make it home in one piece and, I believe, without offending anyone.

Brushing up my old school French

I bought this as a way of getting back in the swing of French since it is nearly 40 years since i did A level French. I am hoping to do Open University Spanish and French but was worried that the French had slipped away too far. This book is a great way of reminding oneself of what you knew and revising, by working through tons of exercises, what has been totally forgotten!I must be old fashioned but doing exercises is the best way for me to drum stuff into my brain and I can carry the book around and fill in the odd 15 mins doing a few.Having all the answers at the back and therefore not needing to have a teacher at hand makes this book a cheap and perfect way of catching up before some serious work starts.

SO pleased with my Greek phrase book I have now purchased Italian and Spanish.<br /><br />It is useful as if you are not understood you can point to words in the dictionary.<br /><br />EXCELLENT VALUE FROM MONEY

Small but big

If you are looking for a dictionary with cheap price I suggest this one, because it is a little one with big knowledge. You cannot find everything but you can find what you need.

awsome - made me think - hard!

This book is really awesome. Seriously - you cannot help but read this book and think - I wish I'd read this book years ago, especially if you've been through a failed relationship. But it also helps you stop and re think how your going to cope with your new partner and how he can read you. If you have any reservations about buying it - don't - you will not regret it I promise. It may just help save your marriage!

Great ideas and good value

The ideas are good starting points or can be extended into larger"lessons". Some activities are suitable for younger/less able children and many can be used repeatedly with small adjustments as children's understanding increase/they get older. This book is great value for money especially in comparison to some bigger publishers' lteracy books. I would recommend it to teachers and home educators of primary aged children and it would still be useful as activities for older children too.

Excellent phrase book, everything is in the right place and easy to locate, not a bad size dictionary either. I shall be looking to purchase the BBC phrase books in French & Spanish.

Michel Thomas French

For anyone wishing to learn a language without having to trawl through endless textbooks, there is no better way to learn. I started using Michel Thomas Spanish CD's about 3 years ago and the speed that one learns is astonishing. After studying French at school for 5 years, many years ago !, I found that after completing the foundation course of 8 discs and then the advanced course of 4 discs, my grammatical knowledge of Spanish was far better than my French. <br />Hence I started the Michel Thomas French 2 years ago and I've found that Michel makes it so straight forward. There's no parrot fashion, repetative verb table nonsense.<br />One has to be prepared to put the time in though, there is no quick fix here. Like anything, it takes time to grasp things and over time, once proficient, one moves on to the next disc and constantly reviews what one has studied before. I found that by having these recordings on my i-pod and in my car that time usually wasted when walking to and from the station etc were now utilised with short sharp bursts of learning that is actually a really good way to learn. <br />Be aware that the CD's have Michel teaching 2 students and from time to time their mistakes can be a bit frustrating but its a unique way to learn as you feel that you are in the classroom with them learning from their mistakes whilst thinking it through and using your pause button. <br />I would recommend Michel Thomas to any beginner and to those that have studied before, go for the advance discs for a fantastic way of revising your grammatical structure in such an easy way. Once you have learned in this way, you will not forget it.

By no means an exhausting reference on French but the amount of words in it, taking in mind that it is a bidirectional dictionary (French-English,English-French) and very portable (small, light fonts are great)

Caveat emptor

Although at times a useful guide, my overall feeling regarding this book is disappointment and doubt. <br /><br />Initially I just found I was dissatisfied with the nature of the exercises: too short, and with too many gap-fills; the range of conjugation is rarely out of the first or second person singular; and sometimes an obscure (for me) vocabulary item will be dropped in for translation with no guidance. The explanation of reciprocal actions is unclear, and the exercise following barely even touches on them, and that kind of thing is repeated throughout, with a principle taught and then not tested. <br /><br />As my Spanish gained a little more sophistication, from other sources, I started to notice the errors. On one page the meaning of venir is given as to sell (vender); poner is used as if interchangeable with llevar, and in one translation Bertha is shown as a plural. Even Big Bertha is singular! Later the present perfect, perfecto de indicativo, is given in Spanish as pretérito perfecto, which actually means past perfect. Then it deals with the pluscuamperfecto de indicativo, what I know as past perfect indicative, but in English calls it the past perfect. Most confusing! (I was using, for reference, Kendris and Kendris's 501 Spanish Verbs, by the way, as a checker.) <br /><br />So by all means buy this - es muy barrato - but with a big caveat emptor.<br />

Great little dictionary

Just the job for tourists. We managed our way through a few menus and shops with it. Handy plastic cover stops it damaging in your bag.

I am studying English. I find this book very helpful for either studying English or using as a reference book.

improving handwriting.

This is a straightforward and interesting book for children to use. It is one that they will be self motivated to work in and enjoy.<br /><br />It is set out in a manner that is easily accessible to all and each new join is shown clearly with space for practice before going on to simple words using the join. The initial writing practice has specially lined practice sheets which are larger than normal, graduating down smaller until the 2nd half is normal size. <br /><br />This allows children to acquire joined up writing skills more easily and also encourages those children whose written work has become too small and cramped to return to a larger, more open and readable script.<br /><br />Each page has enough written practice, but not too much. Thid enables and encourages the children to work through the book at their own pace, getting a sence of achievement and a new sense of enjoyment in writing. So many children dislike having to do joined up writing but this book makes it fun and easy for them, so much so that they happily want to do more pages not less.<br /><br />The book progresses naturally to longer words, ultimately to sentences once enough practice warrants this. Again small ammounts graduating to larger sentences. I would recommend this book for all children and their parents. the script is in keeping with that current in schools. N. Hopkin
