Running as passion for life
A book to be read by those who identify themselves with the image of a/the long-distance runner (in all fields). I especially liked the idea of placing competition within oneself, thus projecting the image of a perfectionist.<br />In terms of (free) associatons, a quotation that I immediately linked to this book is the end of William Faulkner's"The Sound and the Fury":"They endured."<br />Last but not least I would also recommed this book as high level motivational literature, written in a funny style and ensuring an extremely enjoyable afternoon, if nothing else.5

On the short side of stretching
I was a bit disapointed with this book.<br />The other reviews here are all very good - so my expectations was high:<br /><br />I expected drawings in the same quality as in Frederic Delavier's books on anatomy in strenght training - while the illustrations in The Anatomy of Stretching shows the involved muscle rather well - the artistic level of the drawings are not nearly as good as in the Frederic Delavier books.<br /><br />I also expected if not all stretches in the world - then a good selection of all know stretches.<br />Here the books is disapointing in 2 ways:<br />1. There are a lot of known (to me) stretches not inclueded and some areas like how to stretch the latisimus dorsi is not covered very well.<br />2. some stretches are repeated up til 4 times - the stretch where you sit with your legs apart and stretches down between them is covered under 4 sections - back, bouttocks, hamstrings and calves - even the text is almost identical. Besides using up page space and pumping up the number of claimed stretches - it would also be better is the 4 uses ogf the same stretch was covered in the same place.<br /><br />Another gripe is that the actualy technique invovlved in each stretch is very shortly described - while there is a rather stupid list of sports the particular stretch will benefit - repeated over and over.<br /><br />Also the first chapter dealing with the good and bad of stratching is VERY short and doesn't go very much beyond"stretching is good if done right".<br /><br />After reading the book I concluded that I can't use it as my only source for stretches - but I'll have to rely on the web as well as other book.<br /><br />When this is said the book is usefull and holds a lot of good stretches and information.<br />Its just not fantastic.<br /><br /><br /><br />6

I've left it too late
I am sure the book is very good. I received my copy and just glancing through the pages to see the exercises, at a glance, with back an neck injuries it would not have been wise to contemplate them. I did not read any descriptions, I knew the exercises would not be good for me ...... but ..... I am sure they will be great for most people.7

Informative
Its a very good book, the man certainly knows what he is talking about, really gets your motivation in place to get started. One thing though, he speaks about not needing a gym, fair enough, but if you can go the the gym then go to the gym, Bronson's got nothing against gyms really he just can't get to one. I would like to buy a Charles Bronson proper gym fitness book when he is out. If he can write such a good fitness book on how to work out in solitary, then can you imagine how effective a book he could write should he have access to a gym?9

Does what it says on the cover
I bought this book after seeing the amazing results on a friend who was a confirmed carboholic, and has transformed herself without once feeling hungry. The weight has come off steadily leaving her toned and fit looking. The only annoying thing about this book is reference to 'Grok' and 'Korg', other than that it is well explained and easy to follow. If you follow it you cant fail to get good results10

Ordanance Survey Map
If you just want a map to reference while you're at home then this is absolutely fine, but for taking out hiking, I personally prefer the waxed maps, because you don't lose your route. If like me you need a map for a graphics project, these paper types are brilliant for cutting up and using parts.13

Disappointing
I had high expectations for this book, given the fact the author is a respected journalist and the subject matter so rich in dramatic potential. I wanted to get a sense of what it feels like to push yourself through these spectacular landscapes, but the author never really engages the reader in this respect. The profiles of leading runners were the most interesting element of the book, but even with these you feel the author never fully connects with his subjects. At times it was like reading the work of a local newspaper reporter trying to break into feature writing. The descriptions of events in the fell running calendar that continually interrupt what narrative there is were irritating and dull, the kind of detail best left to a specialist publication. I confess I really struggled to finish this book and ultimately cared little about the author's attempts to complete the Bob Graham Round. It simply lacked heart and passion, which is odd given the fact you must need bucket loads of both to achieve such a feat.14

Tao Jeet Kune Do
Top Notch! One of history's most admired Martial Artist of our time gives us a look into the master's mind. This is a must have for anyone studying the arts, detail explaintions and drawing from Mr.Lee himself. The book shows the reader all ascept of the fighting arts with differrent take on defensive and counter moves from strikes and attackes. Nice overall view on the Jeet Kune Do movement and Mr. Lee's take on trying to provide the most effeicent way of defending yourself regardless of your attackers abilities.Truly recommend to martial artist and those wanting to take part in them. Also highly recommend a book to improve your flexibility and conditioning by another martial artist"The Backsmart Fitness Plan" great leg stretches have improved my kicking. Cheers15

Complete let-down!
I foolishly did not read the reviews before buying this. Like the other reviews, I expected far more of the DVD. I was hoping to be shown some basic steps on the DVD leading into a short workout. This was a complete let-down. The basic steps shown were extremely short and I know nothing more about Zumba than I did before I watched it.16

Working for me
I was very sceptical after reading the book that it was going to make any difference at all.The advice is very simple and easy to carry out and far from time consuming.<br />Also upped my intake of Glucosamine .<br />My knees are the best they have been for ten years and I have been able to increase my running. I was advised just before I started that I needed a second operation on my knee. <br />For the low price and little effort required try this first!17

Disappointed
I Have just received this book today. I am very disappointed as I am a vegetarian and there is no information or meal plans for vegetarian. I think this should have been made clear so other vegetarians do not fall into the same trap and buy a book which is not cheap and cant use it.<br /><br />Very disappointed as I have been doing the 30 day shred dvd so wanted some advise on the diet side.<br /><br />Not a happy customer. Dont buy this book if your a VEGETARIAN. You should have made this Clear Jillian Michales. Some people cannot afford to buy books that they cannot use.19

Excellent Mountain Skills Book
This is just the book to have if you are into hillwalking in the UK hills. The good old Langmuir book was just a little too long winded and complex and never managed to get anything out of.<br /><br />However the Mountain Leader book or the green book has been my bible when preparing for my Mountain Leader. Whenever I forgot something from my training I just pulled this book out from my shelf and looked it up.<br /><br />I advise anyone interested in hillwalking to consider buying the Mountain Leader Handbook.20
