The book is presented in the form of short quotations and jottings taken from Bruce Lee's writings. The main chapters are Philosophy, Preliminaries, Qualities, Tools, Preparations, Mobility, Attack, Circle with no circumference and It's just a name. Each chapter is neatly arranged in an easy to read fashion. There is a variety of sketches by Bruce included in some of the text that makes for interesting analysis.
If you want to understand the essence of Jeet Kune Do you should read this. No one can explain it better than Bruce Lee himself.
The words of Linda Lee (Bruce's wife) capture the nature of this book. 'He did not intend it to be a"how-to" book or a"learn kung-fu in 10 easy lessons" book. He intended it as a record of one man's way of thinking and as a guide, not a set of instructions.

Thoughts of a legend
This book is truly incredible. If you're a martial artist there is something to be gained from this book. Excellent Mountain Skills Book
This is just the book to have if you are into hillwalking in the UK hills. The good old Langmuir book was just a little too long winded and complex and never managed to get anything out of.

However the Mountain Leader book or the green book has been my bible when preparing for my Mountain Leader. Whenever I forgot something from my training I just pulled this book out from my shelf and looked it up.

I advise anyone interested in hillwalking to consider buying the Mountain Leader Handbook.24

Step by Step Guide
This book can be used as a step by step guide to get the most out of your GPS. I would recommend reading this book even before buying the gadget because it will help you in deciding what GPS you really need. I had read this book then I went to buy the GPS with specs that suits me. As a result it saved a lot of money because I bought Garmin eTrex Summit instead of a GPS from the top of the range.

Furthermore, the book is written for the British reader which means more explanation on how to use the GPS with British maps than the user manual.
25

A very flexible book.
I liked this book on stretching for several reasons. The first is its simplicity. The pictures and instructions are very straightforward, making it quite easy to do basic stretches. Stretches are given for just about every muscle and limb you'd ever want to stretch and the author has even included some suggested stretching routines for various sports. Whether you're a competetive athlete, business person or housewife, I feel that this is book will have something to offer everyone making it a very handy and"flexible" book. Also recommend"Treat Your Own Rotator Cuff" for anyone looking for more specific rotator cuff and shoulder stretches.

26

good but a little overwhelming fro a complete beginner
As a complete beginner to weight training I found this book to be a little overwhelming in that covers a huge amount of training and nutrition thoery. Also putting together the initial programs requires quite a bit of puzzling things out. If this was the only reference I had I would probably have needed a month to absorb it all before I actually started doing any excercise !.

Having said that, now that I have had time to go through it properly, I feel there is very little about the relevent training physiology and nutrition that I dont know and it is probably a book that everyone doing any training should have in thier library.

If your a complete beginner though I recommend first getting something like"the new rules of lifting" which seems to have much the same core philosophy (i.e. emphisis on compound excercises and nutrition) but is much more accessible and conducive to just getting started with some excercising - more of a"user guide" to this books"reference manual" style.27

There are occasionally good suggestions for alternative ways of starting the walks (eg getting the boat from Keswick for the Cat Bells walk) which can be useful, but especially on some of the climbs it doesn't quite make it clear how far up you're going and how quickly; the aforementioned Cat Bells walk has a very stiff (if not that long) climb with some scrambling up rocks at the end that isn't mentioned for example.
Nevertheless, an interesting and generally reliable book with a good selection of walks, info about things you may see on the walk, and backed up with a section of OS Map that means you'd have to go very wrong to get completely lost.

Good guide, but a little sketchy occasionally
When I first decided to go to the Lake District and do some walking, this was the book I bought, and I haven't regreted it, and have since bought the second in the series. The walks themselves are well thought out and described, often with information on the area you are passing over. One or two walks have seen or are about to see changes due to path erosion, so it may be time for an updated version.

Not just for warriors
First things first I am not a mixed martial artist , however I had seen this book and had a flick through it and was immediatly impressed by the variety and wealth of exercises . This is a well layed out book that offers a good selection of fresh ideas on Martial arts training .
Diet and nutirition , speed , strength and injuries are all covered , quite possibly one of the best MA training books available . As I have said I'm not a MMA , but I feel that everyone from boxers to tradinonal karate folk will enjoy , My only negative ,and its a small one is that the reader would benefit from more sport specific information35

Very good stretching book for the average person
I use some aerobic DVD's and often find that the cool down is not long enough, leavng me with the obligatory soreness the day after or so. I also hold some tension in my neck and was looking for a book that showed a range of stretches for various body parts. Have to say that I love this book. The best thing about it is that it shows a range of stretches for each body part (see the contents page on Amazon) - each stretch shows a diagram with the affected muscle highlighted so you can clearly see what muscle should be stretched. There are also pointers on how to perform it correctly, and the sport injury that each stretch can help with. There is a brief section on different types of stretches which was very useful. Only downside is that it does not show a workout programme but as I brought it to stretch isolated areas, not a real problem, plus it is easy to compile your own workout with a bit of thought. In my view, this book is ideal for the average person - not technically complicated, clear diagrams and easy to follow. If you want more technical information, I would advise looking elsewhere but if you are like me and just want to stretch after a workout or to alleviate tension, I don't think you can get much better.37

Facing the Frozen Ocean
This book was amazing. It left me speechless. I was hardly able to put the book down. I guarantee your feet will be itching and you will want to get out there and see and do the same things that the Bear and his crew did. I felt like I had had been a part of his journey, at times imagining what they must have gone through and the sheer determination that they all showed put a lump in my throat. An excellent book, I would recommend it to anyone.

Well worth the money
I bought Eva Fraser's book about five years ago, and did some of the intermediate exercises faithfully for a few weeks, then fell off the wagon, I'm afraid. However, advancing years forced me back into Eva's fold, and I started again, in earnest, three months ago, and worked my way up to the more advanced exercises, and, to be honest, I doubled up on the number of repetitions. The first results, after I checked in a month and compared against a photograph from day one were encouraging, to say the least. My eyes were much less hooded, you could see my eyelids, and a slight droop in one eye was beginning to be corrected. After three months my cheeks have lifted, and my neck and jowls improved almost beyond recognition. Mind you, Eva does not promise instant results, or anything like this, but some are luckier than others, but ALL can benefit. I was not expecting results for much longer than this, and I am really impressed. I should mention that I am a firm believer in exercising, and that I managed to cure a bad case of fallen arches in my feet, and also improved my eyesight by using Yoga exericses and the"Bates Better Eyesight Without Glasses" Method, respectively, so I do not need to be convinced of the efficacy of exercising, even of those parts of the body we might think impervious to exercise.

I should mention thatI am 66 years old and last week I attended my husband's medical practice dinner and ball. I was at the top table, and was wearing a black satin (very full) strapless gown. And I didn't feel ashamed at doing it! I know I look great. My cheeks are full, and plumped, and my complexion is glowing like it did in my twenties. My eyebrows, at 66 are higher than they were at 26. I feel so triumphant about this. Of course, we all want to look our best, but when you please your husband so much that he raves about how your face looks- and what it does to your over-all appearance - then that is indeed happiness!! I am told over and over that I look 45. Of course I still have work to do, my chin isn't quite perfect yet, but I wouldn't want it any other way. I would be lost without my Eva Fraser exercises. Come on ladies, what have you got to lose! And, by the way, it works for men too!40
