I am a sceptic about ghosts etc but the book really does make you think about your views and whether you are corect in them. Clearly those who have witnessed are wholly convinced of what they have seen.
An excellent read

Im a sceptic but...
I found this book thought provoking. The descriptions of the crash and recovery was truly fascinating. Whilst of course being disturbing it gives you a tremendous respect for airline staff and those invloved in recoveries of this kind. Their bravery and dedication is astounding.I am a sceptic about ghosts etc but the book really does make you think about your views and whether you are corect in them. Clearly those who have witnessed are wholly convinced of what they have seen.

Marianne Foyster lived at the Rectory for 5 years with her disabled husband, the Reverend Lionel Foyster, and their adopted child. While there, the family was subject not only to a violent haunting, but a series of visits from newspapers and psychic investigators. The fact they stayed for 5 years says much about the family's tenacity.
Much of the haunting revolved around Marianne - for example the famous messages pencilled on the walls for 'light, mass, prayers' were personally addressed to her. There had been a series of visitations and other spiritual activity at the Rectory both before and after the Foysters' tenure, but it seemed to reach a climax when they were there.
Robert Wood gathers facts to demonstrate that Marianne may have had a bigamous marriage, and that she 'hastened' her husband's death (amongst other innuendo).
Without doubt, Marianne was a complex character, and was perhaps capable of duplicity to Price and her husband at times, but the haunting of the Rectory does not disappear even if she is found to be so 'guilty'.
Wood does not let the facts speak for themselves, but indulges in a malicious personal attack on the subject of his book. She was alive when it was published, and I am surprised it was allowed to get printed. However, his pompous attitude towards the old lady only serves to increase our sympathy for her, which also leads us to start questioning the whole hypothesis of the book. Nothing she was accused of has been proven one way or the other.

A strangely personal attack
This book is supposed to show us the 'real' Marianne Foyster, but the angle is too personal to give it full credence.Marianne Foyster lived at the Rectory for 5 years with her disabled husband, the Reverend Lionel Foyster, and their adopted child. Review:
Does exactly what it says on the tin...
This book is titled"Handbook" - on that basis one would expect it to be a practical guide to vampirology and the shadowy world of vampire hunters. And that's exactly what The Vampire Hunter's Handbook is, living up to its title with each and every page. Chapters discuss blood lust, tradition, antidotes, exorcisms, exhumations, invocations, garlic, mirrors, the Kirklees vampire case, the Highgate Vampire case, vampiroid syndrome, the occult and so much more. There are also some revealing full-page photographs.

Not only does this Handbook explain the methodology of real vampire hunters, past and present, but also those dabbling amateurs who raise a chuckle but never a vampire as they pursue publicity at almost any cost. One in particular ended up with a five years' prison sentence after scaling a cemetery wall to conjure up a vampire during a bizarre occult ceremony.

There is also a lot of interesting information about the conspiracy to stifle serious discussion about real vampires. Academics, authors, journalists and those with an interest in keeping us in"everlasting ignorance" about vampires come in for criticism with evidence of their seemingly intentional misrepresentation of the facts unearthed by such luminaries as Montague Summers and the book's author, Sean Manchester.

Both these gentleman took Holy Orders in the same independent Catholic Church and have become leading authorities on all things vampiric on a universal scale. Summers has been dead for almost six decades, but the book's author still appears regularly in serious film documentaries about the supernatural and exorcism.

I would heartily recommend The Vampire Hunter's Handbook, not just to those who find vampires fascinating but to anyone with an interest in Sean Manchester, the book's author, who is frequently misunderstood in a world which no longer believes in what he has spent his life pursuing, researching, discussing and writing about. Truly a man born out of his time!65

thoughful and entertaining read
This is a well laid out book using some impressive photography and is written to please the expert and the layman. Each section in the book deals with certain aspects of the supernatural such as mediums, well known ghosthunters and some of the more famous ghost photos.

It is always good when a book such as this has many photos of ghosts and one chapter is dedicated to examining the many different ghostly images that have been captured down the years. Their is also famous stories of poltergiests and hauntings such as amityville examined more closely.

Its all laid out in a way that will attract the most unwilling of readers and the biggest sceptic, and is an entertaining read for someone interested in or new to the genre.68

The most imformative I have seen so far.
Richard Jones has planned our trip out, step by step. I live in London, and I have been on guided waliking tours, but Mr. Jones has provided us with the details and maps so that we may all explore on our on and take our time. I am extremely excited about receiving his most recent book,"Haunted Britain & Ireland". The only problem I have with the book is deciding wich one I should go on first.76

Edward Babbs spent many years as a well respected member of the SPR, during this time he clearly spent a great deal of time looking into the phenomena and legends of Borley, not only looking into the sensationalist stories, but talking with the people of the local area who were alive at the time, and can remember a great many of the occurances from the rectory.
This book shows a great attention to detail, with previously untouched material and content lovingly interwoven with the more well known legends. Mr Babbs takes a great deal of time to explain and detail the history and the legends of Borley and Borley rectory, whilst keeping the utmost respect for the residents of the village. The wording is very clear and concise which is nice to see after so many books on Borley being a jumbled mess of sensationalism with little thought in them.
Finished off with antastic photographs, wonderful illustration, and general high quality all round this book is a pleasure to read, eye catching, and attractive to the book lover or paranormal enthusiast.
Having met Edward Babbs to get my personal copy autographed, and being able to listen to him talk of his work with such a rare passion, it is obvious that this book was not written to make a fast buck, but infact to get the Real Borley story out into the open, in a sensible, logical mannor which is a refreshing change.
I would highly reccomend this book for any history enthusiast, paranormal enthusiast, legend chaser or Borley fan.

Review:
What author Tony Liddell has done, is to combine some very useful information about real paranormal investigations that helps dispel some of the myths, and also assists those who wish to get involved more in this fascinating topic. In addition, the book covers some 40 allegedly haunted locations around the North-East, recounting historic details as well as some of the supernatural legends.
The book doesn't stop there though, as for 16 of these locations, Tony writes about REAL paranormal investigations performed by himself and his team, and details some of their own remarkable findings. As well as images from historical times, the book is filled with images from the present day and some fascinating images captured during the overnight investigations.
For anyone into the paranormal, then this book is a must - go buy a copy today.
