Better than the rest, but not the best.
I'm not entirely sure what all of the negative reviews are getting at, clearly they bought this book thinking it would be nothing but Mock the Week content. It isn't. This book does make you laugh out loud on many occasions, however, this is a book about Frankie Boyle's life - so don't expect it to be full of sunshine and roses. The problem probably is that people think that Frankie on screen is different to Frankie off screen. From what I've seen and read they're the same person, not some sort of angry, Scottish 'character'. So if all you're looking for is lots of jokes then don't buy this. If instead you'd like to read about Frankie Boyle's life with some hilarious jokes chucked in the mix, then go ahead and buy this. Beware, this isn't for the faint hearted.4

Charming snippets of Danny's life.
Don't be fooled into thinking this is a story. it's just a collection of tales written for Shortlist magazine compiled together. It's probably not the gripping read you want to take on holiday, but it's a brilliant book to be able to pick-up and put-down as and when you feel like it.
It's typical Danny Wallace really. OK, so it does lack the oomph of his earlier books like 'Yes Man' but that's to be expected with a compilation. But the stories flow nicely together to provide a warming all-rounder. The stories are too short to be boring and many of them you can relate too. And those people who've reviewed it saying most of the situations aren't believable then they obviously don't get out of the house much. I'm neither a minor celebrity nor a married man with a baby on the way but I could still relate. Heck, I'm not even a man!
Probably not worth £11.99, but when is anything ever full price on Amazon?!7

Withering Tights by Louise Rennison
I bought this book at the request of my granddaughter who is 14 years old. She had dipped into it at a book shop and immediately asked me to buy it for her.
She thoroughly enjoyed it and actually read it in just over one day.
It is very funny and well written. I would recommend it for any teenager or older teenager (like me)!9

Practical comprehensive advice
I really like this book and would recomend it. A practical guide to sea fishing focusing on a more lightweight simple aproach, no macho casting 200yrds with 15 foot rods and 6oz weights here. It tells you all you need to know to get started, tackle, rigs, bait, tides, knots.. everything. Also a comprehensive guide on what to eat and how to cook it. I'd say this is the only book you need to buy to set you on your way. and even if you don't end up going fishing it's still an interesting read.12

Disappointing ...
Generally, I like Dara's humour on TV and I hoped to see this style reflected in his book. Instead, I got a rambling journey around the UK and a lot of fairly dodgy history. I didn't think the book had a real identity and, for me, it exemplifies the difference between comic and author.16

A beautiful book
This was an instant hit with my three year old and myself. the story is great - i think Julia Donaldson is a genius, but it was the illustrations we really loved - they are absolutely beautiful and so clever - we enjoyed searching for the big brown bears - one of them took a double take to see that it wasn't what it appeared to be! buy it!17

A Void
Richard 'Crazy Hat' Herring. Songsmith. International heartthrob. Rulebreaker. Man's man. Lover. Songsmith.

THE FIRST BOOK.

How To Grow Up Not is a landmark in Mr. Herring's career. Erstwhile star of The Stew And Spuds Show, Herring delivers the first in I hope at least a series of four autobiographical accounts of his own life, which he has written. As you might guess from the title, the book details the scientific (MIS!) adventures of MR. Herring as he attempted to prevent the aging of his body and mind in the summer of 2006 and the autumn also of that same year. By turns touching, heartfelt, and a darn sight funnier than his last book (which has yet to be published), his tale is not only riveting but also written in English, a boon indeed.

My only complaint about the book is that at 20mm thick it's a good 10mm thicker than the space I had left on my shelf, so I was forced to discard my copy of Hodges' And Bertram's Digital Almanac (60mm), and then acquire a copy of Michael Caine's (writing as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle) Sherlock Holmes And The Spooky Ghost (50mm GIVE OR TAKE), which meant that despite receiving Hertling's book for free, I still wound up spending pounds sterling!!! Oh dear!!!

I would recommend this to any one who likes Richard Hearing, childhoods, books 20mm thick, compulsive readers, holidaymakers, the women and non-fiction science-horror.20

"A crumpled Morrissey"
Fans of Stewart Lee should most certainly check out this book. Even if you're familiar with the three stand up sets that are transcribed, the footnotes are both interesting and hilarious. It also details the various ups and downs, of one of the best stand up comedians in the world. It's really engaging and entertaining, and definitely better than anything endorsed or recommended by Davina McCall.
