I found this an unpleasant read at the best of times but once I discovered I was a) too old to get rich without enlisting the services of a much younger partner and b) too impoverished to even fall into the category of" comfortably poor" I found this book unpick-up-able. This book is the closest I have ever come to repeating my experience as a six year old eating calf's foot jelly. Over forty years later I still keep a respectful distance, due to the repulsion of the olfactory memory. But only too aware that for some it is an acquired taste and a delicacy. Dennis is definitely the reading equivalent of calf's foot jelly in my estimation, sharp, sour with a bitter unforgetable aftertaste.63

I am getting well into these sorts of books, all thanks to having read a cosmic ordering book by Stephen Richards. I never knew such a world existed and here it is. This book is not a replacement for a doctor, but great for those nagging things doctors put down to wear and tear, etc which is just an excuse because they haven't a clue. This book is written by someone who knows what they are doing, and that is half the battle, great stuff.64

The most useful book I have read
What I think this book does that no other book I have read does, is commits you to change. The exercises are based around sentence completion, you complete the sentences without censoring yourself and you get so much insight that change is easy.If you want to know how you really are, how you really behave, if you want to see what others see when they look at you, read this book!!

One big, fat, ugly frog to go, please!
This is a very straight to the point book. If you want a more in depth study of procrastination, please read The Now Habit by Fiore (as a matter of fact, read it anyway...). This book is the"just do it, swallow the frog approach". This can leave some feeling off balance, to be sure, but, as I see from most of the reviews, this book is perfect for the person who just wants a very sound framework from which to get started. Well worth the money and might very well end up being on my bookshelf permanently along with all my other"classics".67

I've done it
I was sceptical when I bought this book and was only half-hearted in my desire to give up. I listened to the CD for three days in a row before I finally quit. I had been smoking for over 35 years and have not had a cigarette for almost ten weeks. It wasn't a miracle cure but listening to the CD gave the the motivation to want to give up. You have to quit smoking for yourself, by yourself but this certainly helped me.68

Life changing
I have been lucky enough to take two Mindfulness courses and they have changed my life. Both were run by excellent course leaders, but nothing compares with hearing Mindfulness founder Jon Kabat Zinn discuss the philosophy and methodology behind it. His wit, compassion and way with words themselves make CD1 compulsive listening as well as explaining the reasons for CD2, which are the practices themselves. I cannot recommend this highly enough to anybody who wants to learn about themselves and especially those seeking release from troubled mind states such as anxiety and depression. Buy it- Mindfulness practitioners will tell you honestly that they make no promises to 'fix things' but it might change your life too...69

Not losing weight, but I am happier
I have read this book and listed over and over to the CD. I am not getting thinner... On the other hand I am quite happy with my weight. I like looking at myself in the mirror these days. It might have had a better effect if I had had cravings I needed to get rid of, had a tendency to binge or generally felt bad about eating. He has some nifty techniques.<br /><br />I suppose it is a bit of a trade off you either (a) get people to loose weight (b) make people feel happy about themselves whatever weight they are. I think McKenna goes for the latter. I do too.71

Lacks any real depth
Firstly, the book is good for the practice maths and verbal reasoning tests and helping you with your application form.<br /><br />However, the book seems to lack any real help where you need it most. It seems to describe the process in detail but offer little help in the way of preparing you for the tests. For most people, the role plays and interview stages are the real worry of the Assesment Centre, there seemed to be little information of value on these stages. <br /><br />As pointed out already, it is out of date. The book will teach you about writing a letter for the Assesment Centre which is no longer a requirement. In this sense, your on your own for the writen section of the Assesment Centre. <br /><br />At the end of the day, the price of this book isn't going to put much of a dent in your wallet, and it does help to some extent.... but to me it didn't offer the kind of help other reviewers found it to be.<br /><br />The most important information in this book is given to you, for free, prior to the Assesment Centre (should you pass the application form).<br /><br />I'd advise others to buy it, but don't expect too much from it.72

Just what I needed!
This CD is wonderful in the way that it gives you the choice to either listen to the affirmations ( in part 1) or to listen a few pieces of music which contain effective subliminal messages that act on your subconsciuos mind ( in part 2). I definetely recommend this second part of the CD: the music is quite pleasant and relaxing, you can listen to it while cooking dinner !Also being the messages subliminal your subconscius mind is just absorbing these affirmations without fighting or rejecting them. The results are visible even after a week. I have noticed great improvement in my belief in myself and it has been noticed also by my friends and colleagues. Highly recommended!73

Very interesting for someone new to the concept of emotional intelligence, especially parents or teachers. Almost all examples and studies are drawn from children (kindergarten or primary school age, mostly), and how their EQ can be observed and stimulated. However, the book of limited use to adults who want to understand the strengths and limitations of their own emotional intelligence, or how to improve it. <br />I gather when this book first came out it was a groundbreaking work. Much research and writing has been done since then, so there are probably better choices for someone who wants to learn about emotional intelligence in adults.76

Typical negative people leave negative reviews, these people should not even follow cosmic ordering. There lives are shrouded in misery and depression comes over them like a widow's veil. If you cannot say anthing good about this book then you should consider why you feel so negative, as it is within you and within the book. If all the world followed cosmic ordering then we would not have these wars and people dying of hunger. Practical techniques and sensible ideas
I'm going through a divorce and needed some simple techniques to help me get through each day and move through the pain to a better place. This book is helping me do just that. The techniques are explained with examples, and are simple to learn and apply. They are also amazingly powerful, and just one particular exercise made me feel much more hopeful, less depressed and more positive about what was going on in my head right now. Paul McKenna and his team seem to have found the right blend of compassion and no-nonsense, get on with it type of advice.<br />There's also a CD with some hypnosis to kick start the process of recovery.<br />Great book, highly recommended.80

Rather entertaining!
Having read some of the negative reviews I was somewhat wary of the content, but I must say that it is at the very least very entertaining. As I am not a psychologist or brain scientist, or any other type of scientist for that matter, I can't asses whether the authors claims and theories are true or false, neither can I comment on any of the apparent proof of them being wrong in the negative feedback. However, I did find many of the explanations to be plausible and not all that far fetched. Explanations about the theories are quite simplistic without much detailed reference to any researched, which is a downside to the book.<br /><br />Both my wife and I got great laughs out of this book, and there where countless comments like:"That is so true!". Whether or not the theories are true or completely unproven didn't really matter to us, as it was still very good entertainment.<br /><br />
A Very Good Beginners Guide.
This audiobook consists of two CDs. The first is the author talking about meditation, and this CD is wonderful to listen to. He has a really nice voice to listen to and talks as if he is just talking to you alone. He makes if feel as if Meditation is available to everyone, and anyone can do this, which is true, but so helpful to a beginner to be reassured that it is within their reach. The second CD is a set of progressive meditations, quite short, but each one taking you a stage further on. I found them really helpful to work through, as it got me to a stage where I could continue alone. I am a beginner at this but have found this audiobook very helpful and I do actually find it works. If you want to begin Meditation and find the market is too flooded with all kinds of books and methods, then start here with this audiobook. It will guide you through a no-nonsense method, and you can then follow-up any other methods you choose afterwards, when you know what it is about and what it can do for you.
