A Great Way To Start Meditating
Well written, comprehensible, logical and practical. A lovely book that got me into meditating on a regular basis and has considerably improved my life.. You do not have to be a buddhist to accept the wisdom on offer here - although I guess once you buy into mindfulness meditation, loving kindness etc maybe you are becoming a buddhist of a sort!

Enlightening
The book Pilgrimage was a fantastic novel! It was intresting to read through and the RAM practices were applicable to everyday life and many of them are very useful! The devil infested in the dog was a little overated or maybe even a little silly but the rest of the book made up for that! The experiences described in the book were very realistic and the feelings portrayed were very well conveyed to the reader!

The New Mind-Body Healing Gold Standard
With a little practice and a willingness to stop and fully feel your emotions the techniques in this book really can clear issues you may have been stuck with for years - I cleared longstanding depression using Journey methods, and feel generally happier and more positive about myself than before I did the work. I've also successfully dealt with anger and low self-esteem issues, as well as some physical stuff.

A willingness to open to the possibility that there's something more powerful in this universe than your own mind-talk is a huge help in easing the process work, and if you find it difficult on your own, just get a friend to read the processes out to you. Be willing to give each session an hour or so, and be prepared if necessary to give it a few tries - it gets easier each time.

This is powerful"how-to" stuff - the sort of work others (Chopra, Pert, Myss, Hay, etc.) just talk about. Brandon's story is inspiring, and a great, easy read, though it's the practical work that's extraordinary. It's genius, it's simple, and it really works!

A beautifully crafted work with great gentle depth
Each section, each sentence has been lovingly constructed with tremendous love and is remarkably powerful and yet so gentle. Also, John O'Donohue provides a fascinating link into the incredible works of Meister Eckhart. An absolute must!

Double Trouble: Twins and How to Survive Them

Our Price: £7.14
Used Price: £4.14
New Price: £4.75

Review:
Excellent if a little smug
Compared to the doom-laden medical tomes (mostly American) that deal with twins, I found this excellent book a breath of fresh air.

It is extremely positive about aspects like prematurity and possible 'side-effects' of twin pregnancy and is very good-humoured.

The section on birth is though-provoking but be warned, she is quite smug about her home birth (not a safe option for most of us without five grand to spare and who don't live within an hour of midwife guru Mary Cronk's house!). Also she goes on about how great spending time in hospital after the birth is when I think we all know it is a necessary evil sometimes rather than an ideal situation. If it is so great Emma, why were you so keen to avoid it?!

Anyway, rant over....

I would definitely recommend the book ( I am pregnant with twins and have just read it)above pretty much anything else I have read, although as others have said it is not medically detailed so best to look elsewhere if that is what you need.

Benedictus: A Book of Blessings

Our Price: £9.09
Used Price: £7.26
New Price: £6.82

Review:
A modern book of blessings
John O'Donohue's death earlier this year was a sad, sad loss.
Heard him at Greenbelt in 2007 and he was simply awesome.

If you've not read any of his books, then I would not advise you starting with this one. Start with Anam Cara, which in my view is his masterpiece.

This book of blessings will make much more sense after you've read Anam Cara and perhaps one of his other books first, like Eternal Echoes.

If you have read one of his earlier books then this book will be a treasured resource for you to dip in and out of. John O'Donohue is a wordsmith of the highest order and his turn of phrase is delightful.

He covers themes such as Beginnings, Desires, Thresholds, Homecomings, States of Heart, Callings and Beyond Endings.
It is a book of poetic blessings in his unique Celtic style.

I have used the blessings to encourage family and friends and I too have found solace in the wonderful imaginative depth of his words.

It receives 4 stars, as Anam Cara must rank higher with 5 stars.

The heart of spiritual truth
Erckhart Tolle has the gift of presenting spirituality in simple western tearms. If you are diligent enough and prepared to sacrifice the the ego self through the lessons presented, (not easy) then you will eventually find what you have been looking for. Prepare for the trip of your life. I recommend the audio version.

Insight Meditation Kit: A Step-by-step Course on How to Meditate

Excellent guide to meditation!
I have found this pack to be a complete life saver over the last year. I have read through the whole book at least twice and read selected chapters over and over where they are particularly relevant and/or helpful. The CD has some excellent meditation sessions contained on it and the extras provided in this kit were such helpful reminders of the key points. When I feel I need to just sit and chill for half an hour, this is the first thing I turn to... and if things start to get on top of me, I recall some of the pearls of wisdom and things start to calm down and return to their proper perspective. I’ve not only recommended the pack to numerous other people, I have also bought it as a present. I would highly recommend it to anyone!

Review:
Interesting subject Introduction, but very dated
My therapist suggested that I read this book, and the author's concept of CHILD -- PARENT -- ADULT was very interesting, very relevant to my situation, and the book was worth reading for that alone.

BUT, I got thoroughly irritated by the constant"HeHim" use. Nowadays Political Correctness would ensure that Harris used non-gender terms instead.

"PC" can be over-rated, but Harris was clearly out of date here, and some of his other practices and philosophies are out of step with the more egalitarian world we now live in. Patients have charters, rights, and they expect more choice and respect than are obvious in this writing.

So I was left thinking:"If Harris is out of date in these areas, could his ideas and conclusions also be tired and overtaken by 30years of further study.

Perhaps this is unfair on the author. The book was useful to me, but you need to follow it with something more recent.

Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah

Our Price: £5.99
Used Price: £2.68
New Price: £3.04

Review:
Arguably the best book ever written :-)
I first read Illusions 28 years ago, and it blew me away to find this guy saying so simply and so engagingly all the things that I'd struggled so hard to find out for myself .. all the things that really matter in life, but written like a fairy story, or an hour round the fire with a good friend, or ... well, you get the idea, I'm sure.

I kept having to put the book down every few pages, and just go,"oh YES! why couldn't I describe it like that?"

I must have bought around 20 copies by now - to give as presents and to replace when someone I'd lent it to said how much they loved it, and I told them"just keep it, then".

I still read it now & again ... and enjoy it as much as ever. I wonder how many books have that sort of loyalty? Not many in my (book!) case.

It's a fascinating book, because it can be read on so many levels: simply as a light fantasy; as a parable for all the spiritual things that really matter in life; a buddy story ... or indeed all of the above at once.

I call it my Bible, because I feel the God I know would prefer it to the Bible we're brought up with .. sorry to anyone who finds that blasphemous and upsetting, but that's my honest belief.

And it's so gently amusing while it's telling you something profound ... oh, that school teachers could grasp the value of that!

Look out particularly for the part where the vampire appears in order to illustrate the point that it's NOT always a good thing to do whatever you want so long as you hurt nobody .. that's one of favourite bits, along with the Butch Cassidy/tomato sauce blood explanation.

If you want a totally feel-good overall experience, and to be reminded of things we all would be better for remembering, do buy Illusions. I'm almost certain you won't regret it.

The Way of the Peaceful Warrior: A Book That Changes Lives

Our Price: £5.99
Used Price: £1.75
New Price: £3.02

Review:
Basic and unconvincing
As far as this type of book is concerned I'm fairly well read and knowledgable and in the real world I have followed this interest for over 30 years, so have a certain self taught epistemological 'expertise'.

The book is poorly written, stilted and totally unconvincing. In particular the dialogue is totally unconvincing. If I had to venture a guess I would say the book is a work of fiction based within the framework of the author's real life. Perhaps if I was new to the genre I might have read the whole thing. As it is I've been unable to finish it because it doesn't move me.

Even the name of the protagonist Socrates is unconvincing because the rather basic priciples espoused are mainly Eastern rather than Greek.

There are far better books than this out there if this is your interest.

wherever you go--there you are!!
This book is a series of short chapters on a variety of topics such as 'patience', 'letting go', 'trust', 'dignity', 'karma' and 'interconnectedness'. It's a nice guide to beginning meditation, but I use it more to dip into for inspiration. The words therein are calming reminders of what's important in life. If I'm going away I often take it with me to help keep me centred and balanced. Really glad I bought the book.

Absolutely fantastic book!!
This is one of those books that you will want everyone to read after you have finished. My copy is now doing its rounds amongst friends and family.

Although its not based on scientific evidence, to me everything in this book makes sense. If you are a person like myself, always questioning what you believe regarding your faith and such. This can help settle thoughts you have had regarding your spirituality. I love how easy this book is to read also. I highly recommend this book, for anyone interested in spirituality.

GIFTED, WISE & ABOVE ALL A DECENT MAN
What an uplifting and enjoysble read. Colin is an exceptionally nice man that has a wonderful outlook on life and how living our lives to the fullest, and enjoying the wonderful gift of love that we've been given, is so important. He talks about some of the best messages he's received from the otherside, and gives his pearls of wisdom on top of that. there are many charlatans out there - i've seen Colin live and it's breathtaking that's full of evidence - unlike the cold -reading liars around. Even if you're a non-beleiver or are not open to this wisdom, this book could still prove to be valuable as it's a decent and uplifting read with full of hope - better than any second rate self help book. A truely great book.

If you're like me, someone who has wanted to learn the tarot but has struggled for a long time. Then this deck is for you.

I highly recommend it.

Seriously irritating but it doesn't half work!
Glenn's voice is horrible. Sort of Estuary-wide-boy-sells-insurance kinda voice. I have played this CD every night for a week now and I must say that at the same time that it is grating on me (especially the way he says"unconscious" aaargh) it must be working because I have never yet getten anywhere near the end of the CD. Not only do I drop off far quicker than I have done in years but my sleep is unbroken until morning which has happened only half a dozen times in the last 10 years. I am delighted to be reminded what it feels like to wake refreshed from a good night's sleep.

The Secret : Universal Mind Meditation

Our Price: £7.99
Used Price: £5.26
New Price: £3.44

Review:
Monotheistic Dominance
The usual monotheistic dominance: a single all knowing god. I've spent a lifetime trying to get away from people who want a monotheistic god - who just happens to be what they want him / her to be. I don't mind people wanting this - but Kelly could put that on the cover and I will happily steer clear. But (as usual) the assumption seems to be that everyone will believe and want what Kelly believes. I guess my starting point is to say I have beliefs and it is very unlikely that they will be other people's. I think that mediation / self hypnosis has something to offer people who are different to me. I can respect how they are and what they believe. If only Kelly and Christians were capable of the same.
