Ideal book for the newcomer to embroidery on card

I have found this a great introduction to the craft of embroidery on card. Easy to use with excellent illustrations. <br /><br />Cards for every occasion. Clear detailed full size patterns and instructions for each project. Large number of delightful, unusual cards, for birthdays, weddings, christmas, easter, seasonal, and get well. <br /><br />All to make using just card with a needle and thread.

Not for the over 25's.

Although this book had a few good ideas I found the overuse use of the word"Funky" exceedingly irritating and repetitive. Some of the processes in the book were not very clearly explained.

Great fun, great gift idea: original, inventive and different.

This book is really half-way between a book and a craft kit. It's American, hence the title - here in the UK I think Fortune Teller is the commonly used terminology for those things you made in the classroom from any square of paper, folded several times, you coloured on the outer squares, wrote numbers on the middle layer and then put forfeits or wildly inaccurate predictions inside.<br />I generally think Klutz books are good quality but rather expensive - however, this one is a particularly brilliant idea and it is beautifully put together. It's a spiral-bound book with around 20 colourful and varied preprinted fortune tellers that tear out easily and should you not know how to fold them, there are clear instructions on how to fold as required and then hold. The preprinted pages come in a good range of illustration styles and so feel very varied. They also come in several formats 1) entirely completed including jungle, pizza, flowers and underwater themes, 2) attractively presented to which you add your own forfeits/fortunes and 3) ready to use for games, either Truth or Dare or `MASH', both of which have full instructions. There are also dozens of suggestions for fortunes/forfeits in case you can't think of your own.<br />This is a fantastic present for 5-8 year olds. Original, inventive and different. If my daughter is anything to go by, it's guaranteed to be a hit.<br />

DOES WHAT IT PROMISES

The author delivers a stunning collection of models, traditional mixed with modern. There is also an account of re-creating forgotten Japanese models and an appreciation of recently rediscovered German models.<br /><br />The book is written using the international origami symbol system, so no problems following the diagrams.<br /><br />Model difficulty level ranges from simple to intermediate. This is real origami, no strings, cuts, wires or glue required.<br /><br />It's relatively cheap too!

An inspirational book.

I'm always stuck in a rut whenever it comes to journalling on my scrapbook layouts, I just go blank. <br />I bought this book in the hope that it would be a very helpful source of inspiration. I was not wrong, it has some great ideas and layouts that will definitely help anyone. Lots of ideas that you just wouldn't think of, I'm very pleased with it and have even copied some of the layouts!

1000 Artist Trading Cards

I bought this book having seen a review in a craft magazine and as it was the first book I'd seen dedicated to ATCs I bought and and I regret having done so. Most of the ATCs are made using fabric and machine stitching which is I suppose to be expected since the author is the editor-in-chief of Cloth Paper Scissors and Quilting Arts Magazines but the blurb did say mixed media atcs but I don't this is followed through. Additionally there is no indication as to how the ATCs have been created - there are only pictures of the finished items. It's a lovely book to flick through but it dosn't inspire me - I much prefer Artist Trading Workshop by Bernie Berlin and Rubber STamping Artist Trading Cards by Jill Haglund

excellent way to start!!

i totally recommend it!! got it for a relative who is going through a hard time and now i want it for myself too!! excellent way to start coloring mandalas. it has a very usefull and complete, yet simple, introductory first part about the concept of mandalas and then a second part of mandala drawings, very varied and insipiring, from very simple to really detailed ones, each of them with a short commentary. also the presentation as a notepad is useful for coloring and tearing the pages if you wish to<br /><br />very spiritual and easy-going, for all levels, go for it :)

Congratulations to Diane Crane, she has produced a quilling book of both outstanding quality and inspiration. This would be of benefit to both the absolute beginner and experienced quiller alike. The patterns are clear and well explained. The book contains a superb array of original ideas and would be a valuable addition to any quillers bookshelf. Highly recommended.
