Good But Not Great!
I bought this book a few months ago and I was in part disappointed and in part surprised! The book is good for absolute beginners but is not choc-a-block of completely creative ideas for others! Since I have been scrapbooking for some time, I was disappointed to see the same old 'typical craft magazine contents' rehashed and put into this book.
But there are also some fun and inspiring ideas and layouts! Some fresh takes on old ideas are also inspiring! On the whole, not a great book but can definitely recommend it for beginners.
48

Variations on only one theme
I feel the title of this book is misleading. It should have been named the Byzantine chain variations. On the plus side it teaches you how to make the Byzantine chain very well but every project is a variation of it. The beads of the title are simply woven in and out of the links on beading wire leaving the wire visible instead of being an integral part of the design.
I was disappointed by this book. I would not call any of the projects dimensional, they are just chains made out of jump rings and I found some of the projects quite old-fashioned.
If you want to learn to make the Byzantine chain I would recommend"Chain Mail Jewelry" by Terry Taylor and Dylon Whyte which will teach you many more styles, is very easy to follow and has more contemporary projects to choose from.
49

Just what I expected !
The designs are great and exactly what I wanted - complicated and elaborate! Though it's supposed to be a colouring book I did not colour the actual book as I bought the book more for the patterns rather than for colouring. The lines on the designs being quite thick make it easy for children to colour, also the material of the paper being thick tracing paper allows the light to come in through the paper making this book not a simple ordinary colouring book but one with a difference. When I came to using one of the designs what I did was to photocopy the design several times and then I experimented with colours on the copies I made until I got what I wanted. I then transferred the design on to a window pane with a special pencil, painted it with glass painting colours and voila! I had a beautiful Tiffany window pane.58

It includes chapters on:
- Organisation and supplies
- photography from a scrappers perspective
- Page design and layout
- creative techniques
- journaling
- computer scrapbooking
- workspace efficiency and cropping on the go.
The photography chapter was particularly useful as it included tips on things such as taking pictures of a Christmas tree with lights and people in the light of birthday candles. There were also the usual tips on group portraits and close ups.
The supplies section offered very handy information about keeping equipment in tiptop condition such as resharpening punches by punching through heavy duty foil or lubricating them by punching through wax paper.
The computer scrapbooking chapter was interesting and included a fairly long list of links of which only one proved to be dead when I checked them and they all seemed like very useful sites.

It really does cover everything!
Now I've read a lot of books about scrapbooking and I have to say this was one of the best. It is logical and well organised and still offered new ideas and information. This would be a perfect first book to buy or one to turn to if you are feeling confused by differing advice. It includes chapters on:
- Organisation and supplies
- photography from a scrappers perspective
- Page design and layout
- creative techniques
- journaling
- computer scrapbooking
- workspace efficiency and cropping on the go.

Great book from beginners to more advanced quillers
I bought this book, I believe it was the third I bought. As I had started with others which although good, did not have as many patterns and ideas. this one has plenty so you certainly will not get bored. My guess is you would run out of quilling paper first! All the techniques you need to know are covered in an easy to digest manner.

You will be able to make some fabulous pieces.
