Fun and interesting way to learn
I have always wanted to make more of the languages that I learned in school but over time they have slipped from my mind and I find myself a complete beginner once again!<br /><br />The beauty of the Collins Language Revolution is that you really do take things in and even remember what you are learning. And on top of all that - it's actually fun!<br /><br />The pack consists of two cds, one to listen with the book and one that you can take out and about with you, and a book to aid the learning. The book itself is colourful, interesting and doesn't look intimidating which has put me off other similar courses before. The book also has clear instructions on which track on the cd corresponds to which part of the book so you know when to pause and do the exercises before moving on.<br /><br />The French words are broken down into green words: those that are similar to English, amber words: that are similar or remind you of the word in English and red words: those that have nothing in common with the English word. This helps you see how difficult you might find the words as you come upon them on the book/cd. The main premise for this course is that you are using imagination and association to learn and remember the French words. And it really does work! I've always thought of French as a very difficult language to learn but it's made surprisingly simple using this technique and the exercises in the book<br /><br />Another plus point for this course is that the voices on the cd aren't annoying. Both the man and woman have clear, understandable voices that you can easily try to mimic.<br /><br />Overall, if you've ever had difficulty learning languages before, are a complete beginner or someone who wants to brush up on old skills - then this is definitely the course for you. It's fun, interesting and interactive and you really can't go wrong. Definitely 5 stars.63
Review:
This volume is as maddeningly thin as it is beautiful, and despite containing Larkin's final published pieces, it serves as a splendid introduction to the poet.
'This Be The Verse', for instance, perhaps most typifies (and gratifies) the popular image of Larkin: a poem with doggerel beginnings, which emerges into the splendour of a transcendent final stanza ('Man hands on misery to man...'), only to drop once again into the doggerel voice for the final line ('And don't have any kids yourself'). One of the most honed aspects of Larkin's genius was his manipulation of different tones and registers, over which he shows a Prospero-like control in this collection.
If, as has been suggested, Larkin was shooting prospective glances at his own posthumous reputation in High Windows, 'Posterity' suggests it was not without the same withering humour he displayed throughout his career, both as a poet and in his journalism.
Now that the urgency of the Larkin debate has thoroughly died down (his 'political incorrectness' was for a while regarded with a seriousness comparable only to Heidegger's Nazism), it is a perfect time to read this poetry as poetry: as the epitome of Larkin's poetic insights, and as the greatest work of one of the last truly original English poets.

One of the greatest collection of poetry in English
It is not merely because it is his last collection that High Windows shoulders the burden of Larkin's artistic reputation: it is also his greatest collection. This volume is as maddeningly thin as it is beautiful, and despite containing Larkin's final published pieces, it serves as a splendid introduction to the poet.

Best so Far
This field guide will appeal to beginners through to the serious amateur. It covers all the technical stuff as well as some good guidance on photography in general. If you have recently purchased the 40D and wanted a good book then this is it. If I had to be picky then my only criticism is the continued reference to L series lenses, which whilst ideal are often out of financial reach for many. You can get some very good results with some cheaper lenses.<br />67

Great course and a great teaching method
I did a little French at school (twenty-five years ago!) and the Michel Thomas foundation course and I am now on disc 7 of the Advanced course. Michel Thomas has a great teaching method. He immediately takes the onus off you to lean and puts it on himself to teach. The CDs are a set of informal teaching sessions between Michel and two students and this format makes them easy listening. Just listen to these CDs a few times and you will take it in. Also because it is audio based you can learn when in the car or even in the bath. The other advantage is that you will be surprised how much theory you pick up allowing you to adapt the specifics that he teaches. I hate learning from books so this was a great way to improve my French. These CDs have improved my confidence and given me a base to learn from more traditional methods. The only limitation is that Michel Thomas concentrates on spoken French and consequently my written French is much weaker. Highly recommended to anyone who wants to learn or improve their French language.71

Not So Brilliant Books For Boys
Sorry to disagree with some of the reviewers on here but I would like to disagree and rename the book 'The Dangerous Book for Dads!'<br /><br />Don't get me wrong - it IS a great book - but not for boys!<br /><br />I think it is Dads and Grandads who love it most.<br /><br />We bought it on impulse because WE liked it! Our son looked at and took a polite interest in the activities but didn't choose to refer to it again.<br /><br />A lovely book, but not for boys to actually read?<br /><br /><br />74

Best Study Books
I struggled a lot with trying to understand the concepts of pre 1914 poetry, and the rather tedious poems from Duffy and Armitage, however, this books amazingly allowed me to see these poems in a whole new light. The book is short and to the point; no faffing around with pages and pages of garbling nonsense. York Notes teaches you how to compare poems, and how to understand them. It includes all the poems needed for the AQA course, and probaly some others. This is a must have for you revision book collection!77

Couldn't tell if it was interesting or not...
There may be an interesting story here, but I couldn't find it. This is perhaps the worst-written book I've ever (tried to) read in my life -- and that's saying something. I finally put it down after about 80 pages. The writing is hackneyed, cliche-ridden and completely predicable. It's breathless and self-important. Hammond's editor should be ashamed of himself (or herself). Stick to watching him on Top Gear.79

Stuck for an idea? Dive in here...
Alan Fletcher was one of the creative powerhouses of design from the 1960s on, and this book puts together some of his musings on life, the Universe and everything. The book is designed to spark ideas and thought, so even the paper used changes from page to page. <br /><br />In typically quirky fashion, only the left hand pages are given a number so if you buy this book you actually get over a thousand pages of inspiring graphics, calligraphy, typography and photographs collected over the course of a long and illustrious career: he founded Pentagram; he designed logos for Reuters and the Victoria and Albert museum. The book gives a glimpse of the thought processes that went in to that work. For the money it's an astonishing bargain.
