This latest edition of the Highway Code is easy to read, clearly laid out and highly informative. Recommended for all new drivers but an invaluable aid too for experienced drivers looking to refresh their knowledge of the Highway Code.<br />

Brilliant Score

Excellently written book. Completely blows the cover of fake, media endorsed medical surveys. Everyone should read this book. You will become the arch sceptic.

Read this and you'll be looking at everyone in a new light.

An interesting read that shows you how to really look at everyday situations and realise that you could be missing some important signals to help you communicate better. A mix of useful case studies and illustrations to help you remember what you are reading better enabling you to apply it immediately. A useful book to help you tap into understanding body language better and spotting what people are really saying.

Required Reading

My grandson now 16 and wants to drive asap. He knows many of the signs already but this is a great way to get to know them all!

On Site Guide IEE Wiring Regulations 17th Edition

I found this an easy to follow guide with some very clear diagrams.<br />It was a very convenient size to keep somewhere in the workshop.

The need for sunglasses

For someone as unscientific as me I found on the first reading that I was 'blinded by science. It is a beautifully produced book with wonderful illustrations. It is quite staggering to see how various subjects have developed in what is,after all, only a short space of time. I believe it was Newton who claimed to have received his vision by standing on the shoulders of giants. One can scarcely imagine what vision will be granted to those who stand one the shoulders of to-day's giants. It was good to struggle with the more obscure articles although the use of a mental telescope would have been useful. I would encourage others to read this book and even, if like me, they found hard going at times, just to hold the book and enjoy its quality is sufficient to provide the impetus to begin.

Excellent. Just one or two small faults

This review relates to the second edition, which I've been using now for about a month. I already have three copies of the first edition. This edition follows the winning format of the first. Distribution maps are updated. Personally, I find these are rather small, the whole of Europe and North Africa being shown about the size of a postage stamp. New species are shown as a result of splitting a previous species. Users of the first edition will find an old friend in this guide which was largely regarded as the best field guide for Europe. The notes on identification are invaluable when trying to distinguish similar species. Several different plumages are shown covering different seasons.<br /><br />All commonly seen species are covered and there are also notes on rare vagrants and occasional visitors.<br /><br />Even though this edition was long awaited and its publication delayed several times, it appears not to have been properly proof-read. <br /><br />Firstly, the index is not in alphabetical order. For example, the sections on 'herons' and 'harriers' are both split up and out of order. <br /><br />Secondly, the plates appear incomplete. The illustrations have many useful identification notes with short lines pointing to the part of the illustration referred to. On many of the illustrations the short lines are present but there are no notes associated with them. This leaves you wondering exactly what the authors wanted to draw to your attention!!<br /><br />These minor niggles apart, this is an excellent guide, probably intended for serious users. However, at its very reasonable price, there is no reason to buy a simpler guide even if you're a beginner or if you have only a passing interest in birds. You won't be disappointed with this first class guide.

Simple questions, simple answers.

I'll try to cut to the chase in this review. As an atheist, of course I enjoyed this book; it gives succour to those of us who reject irrational thoughts of every persuasion. Professor Dawkins is somewhat of a hero to those of my ilk, espousing as he does science above superstition. His iconoclastic nature should be a spur in the flanks of all those who detest simple-minded acquiescence to our seemingly secular society but established church here in the UK; it's time we made a stand!<br /> One thought though has escaped me all these years. When reaching out to those with a less than literal interpretation of scripture, why do we not appeal to their intellect? A simple extrapolation of Darwinian theory, accepted by most, if not all theologians, dictates that humanity evolved gradually over millennia. If this is so, then when was the first"human"? When did we evolve sufficiently from proto-humans to earn a place in paradise upon the conclusion of a righteous life? Were the parents of said offspring beasts of the field, or did they have the"spark of humanity" within them? And from where did this putative child find a mate worthy of its divine seed? If the religionistas are just slightly wrong, and a deity created ALL life as equal, then they're in a spot of bother! Just think of all the holocausts they've carried out! God knows I wouldn't want to be a Christian come judgement day! Ahem!

a possible life saver

Bought it...read it...stopped smoking.<br />I smoked 40 a day, read this book and followed every step and instuction. Picked my stop day and not had a single drag since. This could be the cheapest life saver ever...Think of it this way...what you got to lose. I so wish i had read this years ago....go get it.

An Excellent Tool

As an electrician this was required for my course.<br />It has proven to be a worthwhile purchase as I am now fully qualified once again.<br />Until the government think of another way of screwing extra cash out of me that it !!!

All his books are great. A lengthier description about the book would help but since this was a recommendation I knew to buy it.<br />Service was great.

One, very good, idea.

Like most books of its genre the Checklist manifesto has a great idea, which if we all adopted would make a real diference to our lives. However, there is only so many ways you can say the same thing so the book is extremely repetitive and too long and therefore boring. Don't forget however the idea, which is brilliant, so I think you just have to accept that being bored for a bit will be worthwhile. The CD helped me as I could work at the same time as listening.

Perfect for Dog-lovers!

Bought this as a Christmas present for my mum and she absolutely loves it. It gives excellent practical advice for dealing with dogs and where you might be going wrong with discipline etc.He also talks of his experiences with celebrities and how he worked with them.<br />A truly great read!

The mindful way

This book is a self-help book and so designed for a larger public. For advanced readers I suggest picking up a copy of Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy for Depression: A New Approach to Preventing Relapse, by the same authors. Both books show promosing and inspiring new ways to deal more effectively with chronic unhappiness and depression in your life and most importantly with the causes. The steps outlined in"The Mindful Way through Depression" can bring on a radical paradigm shift in the way you view your anxiety and depression. The authors are trained in both, traditional Psychotherapy and Mindfulness, so they profoundly know what they are talking about. They invite you on a journey into the deeper workings of your mind. Through the wilderness on to more peaceful grounds. But beware, it is no easy way and for some people, depending on the severity of their experience, it may be better not to try this at home. A book can never replace a good caring person.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br />

Basics for CBT

I needed this book for my CBT course. We do the initial training for CBT with the exercises described in this book, so it's a very useful tool for me. But anyone who has problems with depression and other difficulties can find easy managing strategies in this book, as well. I would recommend it to anyone who is in need of counselling before and when they start with therapy.

A superb introduction to parents, teaching assistants and teachers of all generations!

Having worked as an accountant in the charity sector for 25 years, I volunteered in two primary schools last academic year, and since September 2009 I have been working as a specialist TA (teaching assistant)and find this book invaluable; i.e. it is exactly what I was looking for! <br /><br />A musician friend of mine recommended this to me, as she is looking at different subject books before embarking on writing a music theory book of a similar ilk.<br /><br />I have passed this book on to teachers and parents - and they are most impressed!<br /><br />

Dog Whisperer Fans
