Bridging science and spirituality
This is an extraordinary book - one of the best I have read in years. Gregg Braden succeeds in bridging science and spirituality, and making it read like a best selling thriller. I am left convinced and inspired. The divine matrix is the scientific discovery of GOD!64

An exceptional book in its class.
Rob Hopkins has produced a brilliant assessment of the two major problems facing the world today, that of the depletion of oil and the rapidly changing global climate. He explains the scale of the crisis we all face, and outlines how our response to this crisis could result in a better world for everyone, if we act now.

The first chapters of the book explain clearly how the duel problems of peak oil and climate change threaten every aspect of our modern way of life. Hopkins goes on to offer his own analysis of how each of us can respond to the crisis from the level of our local community. He makes it clear that only by acting together in an informed way, can we successfully bring about an effective transition to a viable future, no longer dependent on oil.

Extremely inspiring, relevant and a must read for everyone who is concerned about the future of our world. I give it 5 stars.

65

Essential reading - Changes your way of thinking
On reading this book you are a presented with everyday problems and the simply irrational way we make decisions- from leaving the cinema to international travel. This non-technical tale provokes thinking in a way that does not confuse the reader, but keeps them enthralled throughout- always wanting to read the next section.

To give you an idea- here is one of the simple irrationalities presented to us- You've paid to go and see a film, but don't like it- do you leave early? Whilst most people would say no, this book tempts us to say yes and shows us that this the logical way to do things. Essentially do we waste our time and money (and stay in the cinema) or just our money? Surely we should cut our losses and leave, but irrationality shows that in fact we don't we stick around in a way that shows our poor decision making.

Overall, irrationality presents solid arguments in a way thats easy to understand. A fantastic book.66

A good core text but could be improved
The book is of reasonable use, with tips and advice for student teachers as well as subjects that you are likely to study throughout your course. Useful for assignments too. It would have been better if there was a book for each subject that would relate examples directly to your specialism, rather than unrelated or vague examples. There are books related to english, maths etc but not all secondary subjects.67

Terrific Photography
If truth be told most of the birds books for sale these days are excellent for identification purposes. Printing techniques, particularly with the use of colour have improved dramatically and a book that would have cost £100 not many years ago, can now be purchased for a tenth of the price.

This book is full of good quality colour photographs that are ideal for identification. The book also tell you where in the British Isles a particular species is usually to be found. Whether the bird is to be found all year round or whether it is just a visitor to our shores. It also shows the birds in their different plumage: Male and female, juvenile etc.

Modern bird books consciously do not show photographs of eggs and I must admit it is something I miss, although I totally understand the reasoning behind it. All in all this is another of a number of books that are well worth purchasing if you have either a passing interest in birds or are more serious about bird watching.68

On the boundaries of science and fiction
Michio Kaku takes a pleasant verbal stroll along science fiction classics like force fields, time travel, parallel universes, telepathy, artificial intelligence and the like, while explaining the physics that would be involved in making these come true. Quite a lot more is physically possible than one would think.

Mr Kaku does a fine job of systematically exploring the boundaries of science and fiction. Unfortunately, his prose is rather bland and the anekdotes - the icing on the cake in books like this - lack the liveliness that is needed for a really gripping read. For readers who prefer content over style this should be no deterrent.69

great for home education
I bought this book for my son who was very interested in letters and reading but was not really learning to read in nursery - i must say it's really really good. Great advice about how to approach teaching, lots of printables, colouring pages, things to stick in workbooks, tricky words - we had great fun, and very straight forward for people who're not professional teachers. This book has more than enough material that you won't need to buy anything else, but we liked it so much we bought the workbooks too.

I now use it with my second child and i'm looking to move up to the grammer handbook for my eldest.70

Or, in some cases the inspiration for a greta lessons; there are some lovely writing workshop ideas included. Great for 7-14's. A must have for every teachers tool box.73

A timely edition to the ethics literature, for a hot area
This well-balanced and expertly crafted paperback fills a critical gap in 21st Century medical education. It addresses hot issues in the UK, such as the current debate on 'assisted dying' (active euthanasia). Rarified jargon and obscure legal precedents are avoided, wisely, and I have already recommended it for postgraduate students in our PGME centre. The issues covered would apply widely in healthcare training, and this could become a classic 'Introduction' for both medical and nursing undergraduate courses in ethics and in social policy.74

Helpful starting point for BMAT candidates
This book contains tips and advice on what to expect on the BMAT test and what kind of skills you need to develop to do well. The majority of the book is taken up by a worked BMAT style paper. Each question has a commentary about different ways of approach and the techniques that could save you time. It also has copies of the answer sheet you'll have to fill in on the day of the test and the marking scheme. Reading this book alone would not be a complete preparation for the test - unless you ace all the questions - and further study texts are recommended inside. If you're not sure whether to buy it or not, try the online BMAT test first, if you need further explanation of what the test involves this is useful. But if that satistisfies your curiousity, use the time to swot up on your science skills or spend the money on reasoning books instead. It only took me about 3 hours to go through this book but it did help me evaluate the skills I need to develop.

Beyond Worlds
Parallel Worlds is a highly readable account of some of the most advanced and exciting aspects of cosmology and its related disciplines today. Covering everything from Einsteinian relativity, through quantum mechanics and on to the most-favoured current"theories of everything" - string theory and its new variant M-theory - Kaku guides his readers through a potted history of the universe, from its fiery beginning to its cold dark end ... and possibly beyond.

The journey is an exciting one, full of sound and fury - from the pattering of quasars and cosmic background radiation to the roar of supernovae - signifying plenty.

There are one or two editing mishaps -"googol" becomes"google", Jodrell Bank becomes"Jordell Bank","Brownian motion" becomes"Browning motion" (leading me to wonder what would have happened if Terrence Rattigan had written"The Brownian Version" - in which a retired schoolteacher must confront his failure as a continuous-time stochastic process relating to the movement of a particle in a gas or liquid) - and someone needs to explain to the prof that"enormity" is not the same as"enormousness" but, these very petty cavils aside, this is an entertaining and informative guide to the nature of our universe and the universes that may exist alongside it.76

possible, THE best medical book out there...of all time
Guys, and gals, this book doesn't even need an introduction. Being only a 2nd year medic, I thought I'd get this now for later usuage, but it really has helped me out so much already. From the handy revision of essential anatomy and physiology for key conditions, to the layout, including advice on OSCEs, emergencies and much more, this book truly is a life saver, and should be given to every 1st year medical student, as it will benefit them for the rest of their career. What are you waiting for, buy it now, and lap it up!! Invaluable!!79

Pretty good. Worth adding to the book shelf
The pictures are large in colour and accurate (nice close-ups). There are decent technical cutaways diagrams when required. The details cover the aspects of common modern bikes. This includes things like elastomer forks as well as newer oil forks and air (although it is a bit vague on air forks). I found the sections on derailleur adjustments and wheel bearing replacements to be very good, as these are the things I do on a regular basis. I also have"zinn and the art of mountain bike maintenance" which seems to get a lot of 5* reviews, but in my honest opinion, this book is better as it covers a smaller more popular range of components (maybe more UK specific?) The text is also more precise and the diagrams clearer. If you are concerned I would check them out first in a bookshop as they are two totally different books, but if you do decide buy this I don't think you'll be disappointed. It ’ s quite a good price too!80

This book is a must for anyone suffering from anxiety
Having suffered for many years from anxiety and thinking it was quite"normal" to feel that way, this book was a revelation. It is very easy to understand, it explains in a most simple way the reasons anxiety is such a problem for some people and not for others. In a step by step form it takes the reader through a process of self help and self understanding. One of the benefits is you can work at your own speed, you can work alone or enlist help from family or friends. It has passages from fellow anxiety sufferers, which makes the reader realise they are not alone with their problems. Having worked through this book and its Cognitive Behavioral approach myself, I found its contents most enlightening and it certainly helped me to work though and overcome my problems. I highly recommend this book for anyone suffering from anxiety.
