Have had every edition and I still carry a copy in my bag. Anyone doing acute takes who thinks they don't need to reflect on some aspects of some cases will come to grief. I am reassured when I see junior docs carrying a well worn copy.23

An exceptional book in its class.
Rob Hopkins has produced a brilliant assessment of the two major problems facing the world today, that of the depletion of oil and the rapidly changing global climate. He explains the scale of the crisis we all face, and outlines how our response to this crisis could result in a better world for everyone, if we act now.<br /><br />The first chapters of the book explain clearly how the duel problems of peak oil and climate change threaten every aspect of our modern way of life. Hopkins goes on to offer his own analysis of how each of us can respond to the crisis from the level of our local community. He makes it clear that only by acting together in an informed way, can we successfully bring about an effective transition to a viable future, no longer dependent on oil. <br /><br />Extremely inspiring, relevant and a must read for everyone who is concerned about the future of our world. A little disappointing
An interesting book though I have to admit I didn't enjoy the writing style. I find Sacks to be overly academic (I'm in the medical field myself) and his use of technical jargon can be somewhat off putting. Unlike the popular work Phantoms of the Brains Sacks seems uninterested in explaining the ideas in scientific terms in any great detail, he instead takes a more anthropological approach and merely details the cases. Whilst the cases themselves are off considerable interest I found his analysis to be lacking. His writing style didn't sit well with me, though this may be more my fault than his, and ultimately I didn't find myself much wiser after having read the book. <br /><br />The book is still worth reading, however for a non-medical reader I'd recommend the far superior Phantoms of the Brain before approaching this work as it'll help you understand a lot of what Sacks talks about. There were, within the book, one or two cases that viewers of House M.D. would recognise. <br />27

Excellent Aid - Impressed with simplicity and approach
Bought this book after learning from a different textbook from another series. This guide simplified things and allowed me to see stats in a different light. This is a much better and easy to understand guide than others in this"Revise for series". Statistics lends itself to this quick revise format so you can get down to the methods and get them sorted before the exam. This really helped me achieve a high mark in my January modules.<br /><br />However- a note of caution- If you've got the textbook in this series they have just taken the same examples, questions and put them into a dreary and reptitive book that covers the same material in the same way. If you don't have the textbook from this series or are looking for a quick reminder of things- this is an excellent buy.28

A FANTASTIC CLASSIC
Yes, it's dense but a must for evolution buffs. A vastly more entertaining read: NATURAL SELECTION by Dave Freedman, all about the evolution of a new species of flying predator! What makes it fantastic is that while a work of fiction it's brilliantly researched, actually teaches you what evolution really is. It gets into the evolution of the brain, the lung, flight - really cool stuff - but unlike dry textbooks, does it at warp speed. I literally could not put this book down, read it cover to cover in 2 days. A tremendous"fictional complement" to Darwin's master work.32

Great book that's really easy to understand.
This is a great book which I highly recommend. It explains everything in very simple terms making it easy to get your head round. I am a nursing student and used it to help me through my anatomy and physiology exam. It was fantastic for helping me to lay the foundations needed to get to grips with some of the more complicated aspects of a&p. That said it was not as detailed as I would have needed to completely get me through the exam. I found it worked well as a book to read before looking at the more detailed and technical text books which are a lot more daunting.It uses lots of every day examples to make things easier to understand and remember. Left alot to be desired- unexpected after the texbooks
Bought this book after being excited and learnt well from the texbooks in this series and was looking for continuity with this revision guide. Whilst the textbook in the same series may seem bright, colourful and easy to understand- don't expect the same quality from this revision guide. If you've got the textbook in this series they have just taken the same examples, questions and put them into a dreary and reptitive book that covers the same material in the same way. If you don't have the textbook from this series or are looking for a quick reminder of things- then buy it- otherwise its not worth your money.35

Useful for preparation- when I was taking the test it was the only book with any practise questions which were very valuble as they teach you technique in answering which seems to be more important than the answers themselves. <br />My only complaints are that it was overpriced and the BMAT part was not necassary for those only takig UKCAT.36

Whoever wrote this is very clever to have written a best-selling book consisting of facts made up entirely on the spur of the moment. For the same reason, please check out the 'Angel bible', the 'homeopathy bible', the 'pixies-at-the-bottom-of-my-garden bible' and the book I'm currently considering writing, the 'underpant bible' about the healing power of underpants. It's all to do with quantum vibrations. And energy and stuff.37

Standard TA Textbook
TA Today is the current standard textbook for Trainee Transactional Analysts, and as such is well structured, easily written, and covers all areas of TA theory up to 1987. It is in need of revising to take account of new theoretical developments, hence 4 stars. But it is still the best overall starting point for understanding the powerful techniques and ideas of Transactional Analysis.39
