Nursing research for the biginners and the experienced practitoners

I was in fact thrilled and energised when I read this 2nd edition of Prof. Parahoo's book! <br />Like the first one, this edition guides you through the basic ethics and progression in the nursing research process, except that, it keeps you up to date with nursing knowledge and research. It also includes extra appropriate chapters reflecting the evidence-based practice phenomenon. <br />Currently, I am in the final year of my degree and in the process of an extended literature review. By following the pertinent chapters in this book, I was able to draw together the majority of the theoretical starting point for my study. The relevant guidance and recommended link proved more than accommodating for my learning needs. Doing research without a good book is like `building castles in the air', (Parahoo, 2006)<br />I would robustly recommend this book for anybody embarking on research in nursing as well as in other health related subjects.<br />Ray Jauny<br /><br />

Eat raw, but don't limit yourself

<br />This is probably one of the best books about raw food. At least the best I have ever seen, and I did go through a number of those... I am generally in favour of raw foods. The majority of my diet is raw. However some foods do requires some heating :-)... A good addition to this book is Can We Live 150 by M. Tombak. I suggest getting them both for a broad view of the full food spectrum.

An utterly charming and surprising birthday present from my daughter

Happy 63rd birthday to me! My daughter gave me this book on saturday knowing I am obsesed with gardening and spend all my time, according to her, up to me elbows in manure (manure is a polite version of the word she actually used!). I am not generally a great fan of history - probably becaue of school, ie give me a nursery plantlist every time - but I loved this book. Amazing to find out that so many of the plants I grow (and sweat so much blood over) aren't British. Full of great nuggets, so thank you Marianne.

Excellent book - highly recommended

If you are thinking about keeping chickens everything that you need to know is in this book. Absolutely excellent!!

All you need to pass

A good no nonsense book. Simply follow the instructions and you should pass the tests. The practice questions are realistic and even similar to the real thing. Good luck with the teacher training.

Excellent Text

This is an excellent resource for teachers of adult numeracy. Friendly than Llewlynn and Greer, which it has replaced as my main source text . Very useful is the ordering by curriculum reference. Recommended

I bought this book more out of curiousity rather than a need to know about AS/ Autism; I know/'work' with people on the autistic spectrum and this book was fantastic. <br />I'd recommend it to anyone whether autistic, family or friends of someone who is autistic or just someone who is interested.

Excellent book for all health professionals involved in drug calculations

This book is the best book to sharpen your calculation skills. Very easy to understand calculations with given examples and formulas. Practicing the exercises in different sections that include a review of basic calculations, dosage of oral medications, drug dosage for injection, intravenous infusion, paediatric dosages and summary exercises with the answers. I recommend this book for all who are involved in drug calculations.It is execellent+++++.

This was the book that made me really understand what the word 'genius' actually means

I read about Richard Feynman in an obituary in a newspaper back in 1988. Fascinated I bought this book, which turned out to be one of the best (if not the best) autobiographies that I have ever read. A safe-cracking, bongo playing, nobel prize winning genius. He was the the scientist on the panel of the space shuttle challenger disaster that identified the main cause of the explosion and traced the design flaw back to complacency within NASA; this story is told in his second autobiographical story: 'What Do You Care What Other People Think?' Scientific books written by him that I also enjoyed (not sure how much I actually understood) are: 'Six Easy Pieces' and 'QED - The Strange Theory of Light and Matter'. Finally, if you are really hooked I can recommend James Gleick's biography of Feynman, simply but aptly named: Genius. It says it all!

tony has done a fantastic job here, for anyone interested in diving ,the service life, and comradship with pals you would trust your life with, my own son is mentioned as well so i know the dangerous work these guys undertake . proud of you all..

Brilliant

This book has helped me when i just cant remember something or wanted to read up on something i had just come across. Its laid out well into the core sections of physiotherapy, and easy to follow. Worth purchasing in your first year!

Good, but could do better.

Nice book with lots of photos. Unfortunately the much of the information with regard to photos did not mention the breed of birds shown. I would have liked to have more detail in the captions. Some of the specific breeds mentioned had no photo at all. I wasn't interested in the chapter on crafts.<br />My husband preferred this book to"The Right Way to Keep Chickens" by Virginia Shirt because it was easier to absorb and photo's are much better than drawings. He said it was a good book, I am hard to please!

A welcome new edition

I find that when managing site's, walking around with this book makes people think that you know what you're doing. It is advisable to actually read it too, just in case someone asks you a question!! Fortunately it's as easy to read as it is on the eye. Forget about the study aid appeal of this book, I wouldn't be without one at work. I like the cover a lot more too!!

Stuck for christmas presents?!! = )

Macleod’s 11th edition is an exceptionally helpful learning tool for using both throughout the year for reference and more importantly when the OSCE time starts to draw closer! Admittedly, I often struggle to keep up with all the coursework and it is so easy to feel like your 6 foot under! However, I find this type of study aid a blessing!

Macleod’s is extremely well organised, clear and concise which makes it very easy to refer to the exact area you want to consolidate. Each chapter introduces the particular system followed by how to take a through history and examination. The examination sequence has been constructed in a stepwise form with displaying colourful sketches of the correct technique to adapt. There is also boxed information which covers key points for differential diagnosis and what signs you should expect to find. The pictures are particularly useful when trying to learn about rare clinical conditions that you are very unlikely to be presented with on your ward teaching sessions as a medical student!

This book is especially great at helping medical students to become competent in clinical examination and history taking because it comprehensive explanations enable you to grasp a basic understanding.

Best revision guide available for Core 2 OCR

Brilliant guide, I was resitting Core 2 for the third time after obtaining poor grades on my previous attempts. This guide managed to make revision much easier and helped me tremendously. With this guide i've been getting B's and A's in mocks compared to E's before. I also found the exam a piece of cake this time around. A must have for any AS student!!!

Depends on levels of info needed

I bought this book after reading the reviews on here which appeared to say that was probably the best pharmacology book available. I have found as a med student, there is often not enough information on specific drugs and their actions, and many drugs aren’t in the book at all. Myself would recomend Lange instead.

An Outstanding guide to testing

This book has good clear diagrams which show you exactly how to carry out testing. This is complemented by clear, easy to understand explanations of what to do and when to do it. In my opinion this is a must have book, always useful when on a job to use as a quick reference guide, I must stress the diagrams are very clear and easy to understand and the explanations down to earth and very understandable.

The Best Self-Help Book Yet?

This is a breakthrough self-help book. Feel like you've heard it all before, or simply that nothing seems to have worked, then this book could be for you. <br /><br />The book is based on a new and arguably revolutionary psychological therapy named Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which has a emerging good quality research base for a range of difficulties including depression, stress and burnout, anxiety disorders, substance abuse, smoking cessation, chronic pain, and psychosis. <br /><br />If you buy this book and want to get the most out it, I'd strongly recommend engaging fully in the exercises it suggests. It has the potential to radically change the way you think about yourself, your relationships and the way you see your world. It is a deeply compassionate, very cleverly written book, and you may be surprised to find in places that it even manages to predict what you mind has to say. <br /><br />In addition to being an immensely valuable self-help resource, the book is also a great way of 'getting into' ACT for practitioners trying wanting to learn more about this therapy. As a practitioner, engaging fully with the book could provide you with a deeper understanding of the therapy experientially and theoretically. It's an excellent teaching resource and indeed has recently been used as a learning resource for therapists on the UK ACT listserve group.<br /><br />I should add that the book is not for the faint heated, and is not necessarily a quick fix. It will confront you with your pain, and help you look deeply toward what you most value. At times it may seem not to make sense logically and may leave you feeling conceptually and emotionally confused. I would highly recommend it. <br /><br />A word of caution: If you have severe mental health difficulties, I would encourage you to first discus the book with an accredited mental health professional (e.g. psychologist, counselor) before using it. <br />
