A feast for the eyes
The Robert Opie series of scrapbooks is always a treat to return to...and leave them lying around and just wait for visitors to pounce on them, so universal is their appeal. Is there anything better for conjuring up the feel of a bygone era? I don't think there is. You can almost smell the heady aroma of Ovaltine, Woodbines, Brylcreem and Brasso wafting off the pages! The Fifties were long before my time but anyone can appreciate the care Robert Opie has invested in curating and presenting his spectacular collection of everyday objects from down the decades. And if you like his scrapbooks be sure to check out his design and packaging museum in London where you'll find the contents of his wonderful books on display for you to examine up close. He really deserves a medal for services to the nation.3

"Groovy baby!" as Austin Powers would say
Being born in '64 Opie's Seventies scrap book is the one that gives me a Proustian rush of nostalgia for a lost childhood. For me this Sixties volume of his superb series of scrapbooks is more of a 'how we used to live' history book. One thing that does strike me is how self-reliant our culture was back then. Whether it's films, toys, music or TV you can see that in the Sixties we still had an overwhelmingly home grown popular culture compared to the globalised (ie, Americanised) Britain of today. There's a native self-confidence on display in the lavishly illustrated pages of this book, whether it's the Beatles and the Stones, James Bond, the Carry Ons, Gerry Anderson puppets, Twiggy, Coronation Street, the Mini, Blue Peter or Dr Who, all of which are found in the pages of this riveting read. A fascinating social document whether you remember the Swinging Sixties or not.4

Don't buy this
Buy the Avatar Field Guide book instead. This is the same material, but only a dozen or so pages, rather than than hundreds of pages in the Field Guide book. And that other book is perfectly suitable for children as well as adults, so no need for this cheap cash in to exist.5

Good gift and perfect coffee table fodder!
I bought this as a gift for someone else but wanted to keep it! I loved the binding that made it appear as though it was an old fashioned leather bound book. It contains a fair amount of text as compared to some other Cartier-Bresson books but is all v interesting. I liked the story that the book was allegedly produced when a US gallery requested to put on a post-humous retrospective of C-B's work (he wasn't dead). He was apparently so amused/incensed that he put together a scrapbook for them and wrote assuring them he was alive but they were welcome to do the exhibition anyway. May be true who knows!8

From a STAUNCH fan of Edie Beale
The author enjoyed a friendship lasting over 20 years with 'Little' Edie Bouvier Beale (cousin of Jacqueline Kennedy and subject of the legendary Grey Gardens documentary) and this book celebrates their relationship. The book is filled with letters and cards Edie sent to the author as well as many never before seen photographs of Edie. This book is so tastefully done. A must for any Grey Gardens fan! 5 stars.9

Basic for beginners
This is a great book if you have no idea where to start but the techniques and advice are quite basic and a lot of it is common sense.
It doesn't cover many embellishment techniques and there are few layout ideas. I feel I need to buy another book for more ideas and techniques.
10

If you're looking for something to provide you with your Twilight fix before the New Moon movie is released, then THE GUYS OF TWILIGHT should definitely do the trick!

Filled with tons of full-color, drool-worthy photographs of our favorite actors from the Twilight movie, this is one book that will have fans - from pre-teens to middle-age women - flipping through the pages as fast as they can.

Although a large part of the book is taken up with profiles and Q-and-A's with the movie's two leading men, Robert Pattinson (Edward Cullen) and Taylor Lautner (Jacob Black), there are plenty of other Twilight guys to choose from.

Kellan Lutz (Emmett Cullen), Jackson Rathbone (Jasper Hale), Cam Gigandet (James), Michael Welch (Mike Newton), Edi Gathegi (Laurent), and Peter Facinelli (Dr. Carlisle Cullen) are also featured.

Fans will love this book for the photos alone, but true Twilighters will appreciate the in-depth interviews, fun facts, and revealing questions and answers from their favorite (and hottest) stars.

Reviewed by: Jennifer Wardrip, aka"The Genius"11

Guess How Much I Love You
Overall the kit is gorgeous with ample sheets of paper and stickers to use in any number of ways. The major problem I have is I have used up the 20 page protectors (very easily done) but cannot find any more to buy as the sizing is odd (10.5" x 9.5"). Normally refills are 8x8 or 12x12. The review states the scrapbook is extendable but unfortunately my babies 1st year book will end at 7 months.13

What have we lost?
Purchased for my interest in the time when our house was built, and an interest in the time when my mother was born, this proved to be such a rich source of history, ephemera, fashions and fads of the time. My mother could not put it down, and told me so many stories with her memory jolted by the great images packed into the huge pages. I've learned so much from it, and now I want other books like this! The"old school" social history has been knocked out by this rich story with illustrations of everyday life. Wonderful.17

great trip down memory lane
this book is the one if you were born in the 60's! my strongest memories are from my teens not the first decade of my life, and i'm sure this would be the same for most other people.
this book is just wondefull, so simple but so well done every page is just a feast of memories, who would have thought that a page of pictures of sweet wrappers would give so much pleasure!
Everyone wants to look at this book, everyone gets excited when they see things from thier everday past.
