Therapeutic scrapbooking

Many scrapbook books that are widely available (especially the ones on the shelves to flick through in Hobbycraft) focus on excessively cute and twee layouts that depict life through a rose tinted lens. Whilst there is undeniably a place for this scrapbooking genre, there is a growing toward scrapbooking not only the everyday but the hard and horrible aspects of life.<br /><br />Some of the layouts in here are amazing but that kind of misses the point. It's the subject matter here that provides the inspiration rather than a straightforward zest for papercraft.<br /><br />This is the bigger picture of scrapbooking.

Inspirational tips..

Some very good tips for organising your room/space in this book. I hoped I'd pick up one or two ideas - but there were lots of things I found useful. I scanned through it and had to put it down to put the things I saw into practice!! So many crafters are crazy about storage and having things to hand.. I found this to be a worthwhile purchase.

A fresh look at Scrapbooking

For anyone who is looking for a different angle to their scrapbooking this book (and the Sequel) is an absolute must! My scrapbooking has had a new lease of life since purchasing both these books. Cathy's stunning layouts, her super photography, minimalistic embellishments and her open and honest journalling are simply so stylish! Through reading these books, I am encouraged and inspired to create layouts that are truly from my heart. Thanks Cathy and keep up the good work!

easy to read

there are many scrapbooks on the market, this one is at a reasonable price. it is brightly coloured and has clear step by step demonstrations. Full of bright and clever ideas. this book takes you through all the items you can use for scrapping = form fabrics to hot glue guns to papers. Quite simply, this is an effective book and certainly one to have on your shelf.

A book full of ideas

This is an excellent book, well illustrated with clear instructions. I shall have great fun following some of the suggestions and adapting others

Fabulous for Inspiration

This book isn't going to teach you how to make a page, or any techniques. However it is an absolutely fabulous book for inspiration.<br /><br />The dares (of the blog of the same name) set you challenges to scrap the good, bad and ugly sides of life. There are a huge number of pages done on the themes and these in themselves can provide inspiration.<br /><br />I personally love this book, it challenges and inspires in equal measure.

An absolutely wonderful book!

Never before have I seen a book that is more exciting, colourful and vibrant. Robert Opie has a real talent in creating wonderful double page spreads of memorabilia, cigarette cards, pamphlets, posters, books, games, toys, tins and a myriad of other objects from the roaring 20's, all capturing the mood of the time perfectly. My only wish is that I could purchase every single book in the range!

A bit pricy but good value

This book is a little pricy for 59 pages. However if you are commited to your studies or general interest in this area then it is a worthwhile and good value buy. My advice is to buy it only if you are really interested in this period.

Fresh ideas from talented local designers

This book is testimony to the wonderful and unique talent of British scrapbookers and will be a great source of inspiration to local scrappers, scrappers in the USA and further afield.

Each layout is accompanied by handy tips and information about the supplies used. The best part is that you don't just get to see one layout from each of the winners, but a selection, and this truly showcases the abilities of each of the very worthy winners in this competition. Inspiration does not end here though - there is a gallery of layouts from additional designers who received an honourable mention and layouts by the judges.

There is a lovely variety of styles and enthusiastic scrappers will not be able to wait long before trying some of the wonderful ideas. Whether you prefer simple layouts or truly artistic creations, you will definitely find this book a handy scrapbooking companion.

The card making section at the end of the book encompasses around 10 pages and the ideas are equally as useful whether you are a scrapper or card maker. As a special bonus, one of the judges has even written a guide to winning scrapbooking contests, so if you are dying to have a go, this guide will certainly set you on your way. Shimelle Laine, the author of the aforementioned article, knows a thing or two about winning competitions too - she is a member of the Creating Keepsakes Hall of Fame and the Paperkuts Power Team.

This book represents great value for money.
