An absolutely wonderful book!
Never before have I seen a book that is more exciting, colourful and vibrant. Robert Opie has a real talent in creating wonderful double page spreads of memorabilia, cigarette cards, pamphlets, posters, books, games, toys, tins and a myriad of other objects from the roaring 20's, all capturing the mood of the time perfectly. My only wish is that I could purchase every single book in the range!44

Different and inspiring
Although pretty American in style, this book does cover a lot of bases others don't. The page that a grandmother did about her grandson and his father in prison was especially touching, and other more off the norm subjects such as death, tattoos and eating disorders are amongst those covered. Although sounding morbid, I can assure you that this is actually a very inspirational book, very insightful and"real", unlike a lot of cutesy pretty gardens and perfect family books which we often can be bombareded with. After reading this book I did a page on a friend who died a few years ago, and although emotional, actually made me smile as much as cry. Buy or borrow from a friend, you won't regret this book.46

Visually Good
I found this book to be a good visual refernce book, but personally, I like text to explain a technique, or give some background to the page or album. There is little in the way of details regarding any of the techniques shown, just lists of supplies. So, for those starting off with scrapbooking and looking for tips, in my opinion this is not the book for you. If however, your mojo has slipped a little and you're looking for a bit of inspiration, this could be worth a look.
The mini albums themselves are very well done and great examples, but lacking in detailed explanations.48

great ideas book
love this book . Am new to this style of cardmaking and have used many ideas already and have only had the book for a couple of weeks ! one of those rare finds where i can honestly say i would try every design . Includes sentiments and templates and covers most occasions and mediums. Is USA publication so includes events not applicable to UK , but all designs can be adapted to any occasion . I will not need to buy another card making book ever !!!! - untrue statement from a bookaholic .53

Good collector's item
This book has mainly black and white photographs of Peter Beard: working, taking shots of/directing either Kenyans or models on photo shoots, standing alongside the models, working on his great collages (which is interesting), injured, talking during an interview, a few photos of the coast and his house in Montauk and some others. The photos in this book are not necessarily fabulous photos, but they are growing on me, because they show Beard in action on the other side of the lens.

What makes this book stand out to me is the long 30 page interview with Beard at the center of the book and the 54 minute dvd at the back. They make"Scrapbooks" worth buying if you're a Beard fan.

In the interview you get an insight into what makes Peter Beard tick: his mind, passions, thoughts on his career, work, luck and life, people he has met, inspirations, opinions on Africa etc..

The accompanying dvd (a pleasant surprise as I was not made aware that it was included) shows a film, which is celebrated in many parts of the world, but which I had never heard of in the U.K., and which is"the definitive interview of record on Peter Beard."

Initially I expected more images of Beard working out in the bush photographing animals (not models); glimpses of his famous scrapbooks; or of his home Hog Ranch (i.e. does he collect tusks and bones? Is he a spartan man or a collector? I respect that he is a private man, though and I am probably just too nosy). When I first leafed through this book I was mildly disappointed and felt somewhat cheated. HOWEVER, once I discovered and read the interview and watched the dvd, I did not regret buying"Scrapbooks" at all.

It's not every day/year that you get a hold of an interview with Beard. You have to know where and in which country to look if he ever gives one etc. etc.. As a fan of his work I find"Scrapbooks" insightful and fascinating. I see this book as a necessary part of my collection of his books, even if the photos aren't what I expected [...]. I believe that in years to come this, too, will be a Peter Beard classic.

I should add that this book has a great blood-red hardback cover with a mock-lizard design.60

Great Interactive Book
Well u probably read that this book was only 64 pages and was put off,but wow. It's a very good and well presented biography.
it's hardback and comes in a nice Hardback case for the actual book.
got loads of information, which are presented in different sections ie. The Lover, The Poet etc. Giving you information in sections rather than a straight thru biography.
Also on alot of the pages there is Pockets with certain Memorabilia ie.Concert Tickets and Concert posters and also Jim's drawings and some letters, postcards and other interesting things.
trust me, if a doors fan , you'll very much enjoy this book. Even if you've read other biographies on Morrison, you'll still be able to enjoy this, as there is alot of nice collecters items which are of interest to us Doors fans.
