It really works!
I found this book a fascinating read, and felt that I 'resonated' with much of what the author said. I tried out one of the 'practical' methods of contacting a Deva recommended by the author, and to my complete surprise, it actually worked!

Good, even if you're not a witch!
I'm not a witch or even into wicca at all, but of the dozen or so faerie books I've read recently, this is probably the best. It actually amounts to two books in one. The first half of the book is full of useful and interesting info, and the second is a dictionary of faery creatures worldwide. Highly Recommended.

this book has changed my view of everything
I found an aged copy of this book in a university library last year. I live in London, and was horrified to find out that it was only in print in America, because this book has honestly changed everything for me. I'm no longer afraid of death, or what will happen to me afterwards. I live by what this book has taught me. Since I had to give it back to the library I have really missed it. If anyone knows how I can get hold of it in London, England, please contact me.

The Ghost Hunter's Guidebook: The Essential Guide to Investigating Reports of Ghosts and Hauntings

Review:
Well researched and sensible advice
The book sets out to educate the reader in the world of GhostHunting (or Ghost Research as the author prefers). The information within the book seems to be well researched and it is obvious that the author is speaking from personal experience. The book should appeal to seasoned Ghost researchers as a reference tool but seems to be focused on introducing beginners to this strange world. A great deal of the information could be seen as pure common sense - however, it is easy to overlook the basics and therefore it is useful for everything to be spelt out.

This book would have earnt 5 stars were it not for one severe drawback. The book is relatively short (at 128 pages) and yet still seems to feel the need to pad out its volume by having large sections devoted to the history of parapsychological research. While there is no doubt a place for a potted history of this subject - it seems excessive to devote what amounts to half the book to this subject. A purchaser of this book is buying it for the practical advice, not the history lesson.

That said, the quality of the advice in the second half of the book merits this book to be recommended to anyone interested in parapsychology - whether as a practical tool, or just out of pure theoretical interest.

More To Life Than Mere Mortality
I love books about this sort of stuff, and this one was intriguing. While no one can truly know for certain exactly what lies in the spirit realm (without being a spirit themselves), this book comes close to revealing what can be learned ghosts, spirits and aparitions. Definitely worth a read whether you believe in ghosts or not.

How To Keep Your Man: And Keep Him For Good

Real Life Dramas - Volume One: 1

Darren G. Burton

Books involving the Warrens are very interesting
I must admit that I do enjoy the books co authored by these two paranormal researchers. There is always a little nugget of interesting information that makes you think do I believe this or not but certainly it makes you think! There is also an update on the famous Amityville Horror for those who might have wondered if there was any closure on that case. The evidence to date would suggest not. Highly stimulating read with spooky photographic evidence accompanying the narrative.

Memoirs of a Monster Hunter: A Five Year Journey in Search of the Unknown

Review:
One man seeking a sequel
I hate it when I read reviews on Amazon which just slate books for no good reason. Reviews where you end up drawing the conclusion that the writer has some poorly concealed agenda with the book or its author. I just wanted to point this out before continuing...

I read `Three Men Seeking Monsters' and thought it was wonderful; whether or not you choose to believe in the subject matter, the book was well written and rolled along at a fair old pace, vivid characters and scenarios aplenty. All in all, I rated it highly and having re-read it now a number of times, nothing has changed. So you can imagine that my anticipation levels were pretty high when approaching this new book from the same author on the same sort of subject matter. Have to say, I'm really disappointed.

Firstly, whilst `Three Men...' tells an extraordinary tale, it does so with a self-deprecating sense of self. Nick Redfern comes across as somebody who can see the inherent humour in the story he's telling and is happy to poke fun at himself and his companions. Unfortunately, this is not carried over into this new book - I don't know if it's the amount of time the author has spent in Texas or something else, but the rather patronising, silly slant applied to the writing this time around is irritating to say the least. It brought to mind the scene in Alan Partridge, when Alan it's pointed out to Alan that he uses the phrase `needless to say, I had the last laugh' in every chapter of his book; substitute instead the sentence `we all sat there drinking, laughing because we get paid for this stuff and don't have to work 9-5 you suckers' and you'd be about there. Similarly, if I read the words `literally' or `deluge of biblical proportions' again, my teeth will once more begin to itch. Perhaps more importantly though, is the books assertion that during every `quest' the author undertakes, he finds supposed hard evidence of whatever entity he is searching for, evidence which in the previous book would have been treated with a little more scepticism. There is no balanced argument here; wild supposition is now presented as semi-factual. Photos of strange lights and branch formations are mentioned in some detail - but no photos are included, rather strangely. Instead we are `treated' to a photo of his wife's deceased hound - along with a detailed explanation of said hound's illnesses and death. I don't wish to sound callous, I know how tough it can be when a cherished family pet dies but this book is supposed to be about monster hunting - a brief mention would have sufficed.

The book does have its good points too in fairness. Redfern does point out some of the more lunatic elements in UFO and Cryptozoological circles and poke fun at them and some of the cases he looks into may have some basis in fact. But I was really expecting more of the same and it wasn't forthcoming. Name checking all your mates and constantly telling us how much you love having sex with your wife is pub talk, not the basis for a gripping read. Maybe the author should return to live in Walsall for a while, it might bring him back down to earth a little?

If you haven't already read it, buy `Three Men...' instead; it's an excellent read by this author, as is `A Covert Agenda' albeit on slightly different subject matter. But I'd be wary of this one; it doesn't do the subject matter justice, nor the author any favours.
Big Bird! - Modern Sightings of Flying Monsters

Our Price: £7.59
Used Price: £9.92
New Price: £5.76

Review:
Nice Content, Shame about the Publication
The title of this book is somewhat misleading, as it is mainly about modern sightings of pterasaurs rather than birds. This is apparently because `Big Bird' is a term that was used for these sightings when there was a rash of them in Texas in the seventies. The sightings from this area form the main subject matter of the book, and the author has visited some of the sites and sought out the witnesses, with limited success. He also covers sightings from elsewhere in the USA, and surprisingly these have been made in about sixteen states. He mentions reports from elsewhere in the world, notably Africa, where there have been sightings of a pterosaur called the kongamoto, and giant bat-like creatures. Papua New Guinea also seems to be a hot spot, with a rhamphorhyncoid called the ropen, and a larger version called the duah. There are also reports from Australia, Crete, and even Britain. Historical records are mentioned, from Arabia, Egypt, Peru and Chile, and legends from Aztecs and American Indians. Other strange flying beasts are briefly mentioned, such as the chupacabras, dragons, Quetzalcoatl, flying snakes, the owlman, the mothman, and the thunderbird. The book has a useful appendix giving an overview of what is known about pterasaurs from the fossil record, and another listing the sightings from the southern states.
I'm no expert, but I suspect this is a comprehensive survey of what is quite a limited subject, which is why the book is rather short at 91 pages. There is no index, but then I suppose this is forgiveable in such a short book. However, a lot of the material is covered in Karl Shuker's In Search of Prehistoric Survivors, which obviously covers other types of animals as well, but if you want a more comprehensive overview of the `flying beast' subject this seems to be a useful publication.

However, there's a problem. Gerhard's publishers have let him down badly on a number of points. The typesetting is amateurish, with too-narrow margins that almost has the text disappearing into the spine of the book on the left hand pages. The font size is also rather small, so perhaps they were trying to minimize the number of pages to save money. The page headings and numbers also look odd, in over-large bold type. A few black-and-white photos of the locations of sightings are included, but some of these do not show up very well, I think because the paper is too thin. There are also some black-and-white drawings that are not anything to write home about, but I suppose the author rather than the publisher will be responsible for commissioning these. There are a few typos - well, I suppose they'll always creep in.

If there is a second impression I hope they revamp the book and resolve these issues, as this is a well-written, absorbing read, set out in a workmanlike way with level-headed assessments. If this subject interests you, I would say don't let the presentation issues put you off.
the myrtles plantation
When I first got this book I suspected that it was going to be like many of the supposed ’true haunting’ accounts I’ve read in the past.

I was in for a surprise! I could not put this book down and would recommend it to anyone who wants to be whisked off to a world of shadowy figures and footsteps in the night.

A very enjoyable book.
