Ghosts of Devon
This was the first ghost book I ever read, and twenty-odd years on, it remains the best. Peter Underwood is Britain's leading ghosthunter and president of Britain's Paranormal Society, which adds to his qualification on the subject. From the story of Dartmoor's 'Hairy Hands' near Princetown, to the haunted Inn at Chagford, this is the definitive ghost book. Buy it with confidence.

Possibly the best ghost books in existence
All of this series is gripping and instructive. They really make you think about the nature of reality, the nature of humans and the ways of the world. Not only are the ghost stories sometimes VERY scary, the books really open your mind to other perspectives, and treat people in them with respect and compassion. I am from Widnes, so know Liverpool fairly well, but I think anyone anywhere can enjoy this series. I only hope Tom Slemen continues writing them.

Andy Matthews' Greatest Haunts: Don't Believe in Ghosts? Read the Stories of the Ghosts We Recorded!

Our Price: £6.36
Used Price: £3.00
New Price: £3.20

Review:
Spooky stuff!
I don't believe that ghosts exist. And yet, there is something in the tales in this book that makes me wonder if perhaps I should reconsider. Andy Matthews and his team are matter-of-fact about the strange things they have seen and heard, and their investigations are carried out in a scientific, straightforward manner. They approach each case with an open mind, as happy to prove that there is no haunting as to find that there is. So if you like a mystery and can keep your mind as open as Andy & Co, then this is the book for you.

Believing in Faeries: A Manual for Grown-ups

Used Price: £0.01
New Price: £58.24

Review:
Marcia's book makes magic come alive in everyday life.
I met Marcia in Hawaii when I was living there and she gave me a copy of"Believing in Faeries" to take home. I read it cover to cover immediately. Her view of our natural surroundings is down to earth and ethereal at the same time. Though I loved"the idea" of faeries I had never really admitted they could be nearby. Marcia's very animated and inspiring style of writing made the faery world come alive for me--and now I feel the comfort and whimsy of their presence often. Her words jump off the pages and make you smile but they also make you reach down deep inside and feel the sense of solid substance. She helps the reader glimpse a world of magic and mystery simultaneously. I loved"Believing in Faeries" and I am an author too-- so this recommendation comes with my highest respect attached. Great book, Marcia!

I brought this book when Jean Kelford came to the local bookstore to do a signing.
I am interested in the afterlife, and added this my growing collection of books on the subject.
I found the book slighty different to the other ones I have brought on the subject, as Jean not only tells us of her account with spirits, but also methods on how to attract and be aware of, your own guardian angel, and spirits.
I would recommend this book, if like me, you have an interest in the subject.

Zompoc: Weapons and Tactics for the Zombie Apocalypse

Our Price: £8.09
Used Price: £9.43
New Price: £5.30

Review:
Fantastic and detailed combat manual for the ZOMPOC
Bought this after reading the news on Facebook that the authors were writing a sequel to ZOMPOC with a special emphasis on weapons and combat. This book is great as a standalone title or ideally as a supplement to the original. This one doesn't bother with the nromal survival information, it is an all out combat manual that covers all kinds of stuff from unarmed hand to hand (which the authors tell you to avoid at all costs!) through to using blunt and edged weapons, bows and firearms. Mix this with battlefield tactics, combat strategies, siege defence and riot formation and drill and it is simply great. As an extra bonus the book comes with information on forming a milita to fight in the Zompoc and also a very detailed 'Know your enemy' chapter that has lots of information of group intelligence that is very enlightening.

Is this for Europeans or the US market? In my opinion, both. It covers blades and guns inequal measures and places great emphasis on improvisation in the Zompoc.

What types of zombies are described? Like the firdt book this one tries to cover all types from the classic undead shamblers to the more recent Jack Snyder running dead zombies, the rage zombies from 28 days later or the mutated creatures from resident evil. This book basically tries to be useful against all these creatures.

The actual book is slightly shorter that the original page wise and is also a more conventional paperback book format. This is much better in my opinion as it is easier to carry or put in a bag to read during your breaks. The artwork, liek the first work is simply awesome. These guys should make a graphic novel based on the quality of their illustration.

I give this book 5 stars with the only proviso being that this book is specialist and that you needthe first Zompoc if you are looking for a total survival system.

An easy and entertaining read
I liked this book because it didn't try to blind you with science. It states from the start that the author will leave it to the reader's discretion to decide whether the contents are true or not, which makes a nice change from 'my sources would never lie! It's all true!'. The huge amount of photos were interesting to look at and my reaction to the 'spirit photography' section ranged from 'yeah, right' to 'ooh, could that be real?' Personally, I think this book is a nice addition to any paranormal student's library. The author also makes one or two suggestions for further reading for those interested.

The Werewolf in Lore and Legend

Our Price: £7.16
Used Price: £7.32
New Price: £6.49

Review:
Scholarship Unsurpassed
Some reviewers have a tendency to give Summers a bad rap simply for the amount of primary source translations in his works. I however am of the opinion that if you buy a book intended for a thinking and scholarly-minded audience one should at least make an attempt at translation, especially today with so many books and on-line services geared towards quick and easy translation of other languages. If you are a New Age dabbler or casual spectator of the occult you will not enjoy Summers works, they are serious, riddled with archaisms and extremely well-researched. This is not the sort of book you can pluck off the"Mind, Body, Spirit" shelf at your local Waterstones."The Werewolf in Lore and Legend" is an excellent and comprehensive collection of werewolf legends, lore and summary information, much of which cannot be found anywhere else outside rare manuscript libraries. Summer's style and phraseology will give trouble to some but I found it enjoyable and easy to read once you got used to it in the introductory pages. I heartily recomend any of Summer's works to anybody who wants a deep, academic and thoughtful treatment of subjects that have become the focus of a mountain of trashy pop-literature in the last 30 years.

Alien Dawn: A Classic Investigation into the Contact Experience

Our Price: £11.10
Used Price: £3.48
New Price: £4.72

Review:
Wilson's wide-ranging exploration of the alien contact issue makes for intelligent reading
The prolific English writer Colin Wilson has had a long and successful career investigating and writing about a wide range of subjects centred around the paranormal, the occult, human psychology and societal"outsiders," and is author of several best-selling biographies. In this 1999 book, he turns his eclectic and analytical mind to the subject of UFOs and the"contact experience." The result is as lively, original and thought-provoking as most of his other work, and well worth reading for anyone interested in this curiously persistent set of phenomena.

Wilson is renowned for deeply researching his source material prior to pulling it all together into a tentative hypothesis, and for this project he read more than 200 books on the subjects under scrutiny and conducted a number of interviews. The pervasive and very physical UFO phenomenon with all its attendant strangeness; the evidence for the reality of alien abduction (substantial and compulsive, according to the author); cattle mutilations;"Bigfoot" and crypto-zoology; crop circles; out-of-body experiences; quantum physics, new ideas of inter-dimensionality and the nature of time; the complexity of human consciousness and spiritual awareness are investigated and examined with knowledge and insight.

The author seems particularly impressed with Jacques Vallee's unorthodox theories, formed over several decades of careful field investigation and the application of scientific methodology. Between 1965 and 1995 Vallee wrote an impressive series of books detailing his evolving ideas on the UFO issue, all of which Wilson has obviously read and studied.

The result is a mostly interesting book of commentary and analysis which invites the reader to expand his/her paradigm of what constitutes"reality". Ultimately no hard-and-fast conclusions about the meaning of these diverse phenomena encroaching into our lives is offered, beyond acknowledging that they are mostly"real" and should not be dismissed because they do not fit the conventional paradigm of reality. Wilson once again returns to expounding his ideas about low-pressure and high-pressure human consciousness, and the possibility we are living in an"information universe" where everything is interconnected (not dissimilar to Michael Talbot's"Holographic Universe" model - though Talbot's work not cited in the text, his book is quoted in the bibliography). In this respect, Wilson is more focussed on the spiritual and experiential aspects of the whole alien-contact issue and its meaning, rather than the reductionist preoccupation about whether they are objectively real or not, in a nuts-and-bolts way.

Colin Wilson is a very good writer - one of the best. His prose is intelligent, literate, racy and informative, and very easy to read; his books are always enjoyable and usually page-turners. This one would be a good starting point for someone in no way familiar with the subject matter, or conversely for someone who has read so much on the subject that they feel they now can't see the wood for the trees and might benefit from an informed, knowledgeable summary which tries to bring the diverse and complex strands together into a more coherent narrative. The book's content and concluding ideas are in fact much wider and more encompassing than the slightly new-agey title might suggest, and indeed a better title for the book might have been chosen by the publisher - so don't be put off by it. It's good, and worth reading.
Who's There?: The True Story of a Leeds Haunting

I loved this book. So believable. What a fascinating read, even though quite frightening in parts. Apart from ghostly happenings to the Slater family which followed them from a house in Sheepscar, which fell down for no apparent reason to a house just as haunted in Potternewton, it offered a chronicle of the family. Mrs Slater even had a ghost following her to three elderly persons homes in her old age. I do not understand the remarks by B. Osborne about Oakwood Hall, which was not a statley home but just a mansion, which was an important part of the story. I think they either did not read it, or they read a different book to me. I definitely recommend it. Photo's too.

Dogged Days - Dogged Life
I decided to buy Ellis' book 'Dogged Days' because I had read his previous books; 'In These Signs Conquer' and ' Living in the Matrix:Another Way - Numerology for a New Day' and I found them to be thought provoking and stimulating. I knew that the book detailed Ellis' paranormal experiences and encounters and this made the book even more appealing for me.

Ellis writes entirely from the heart whilst keeping both feet firming on the ground. There is no sugar coating in this book - Ellis tells it exactly how it is and you can't help but feel that you are sharing part of his life whilst reading the book.

Anyone who has an interest in paranormal experiences and encounters or has had experiences themselves should read this book. This book offers fresh insight into not only Ellis' life but also the whole paranormal field.

Amazing
Amazing is a word that I would not normally use to describe a book, but Tom Slemen's books are literally that - amazing. Tom has the eerie ability to draw the reader into a world of mystery and the supernatural, set in places that the reader can identify with. I would go as far as saying that Tom Slemen is the greatest writer Liverpool has ever produced.
